1. watch israelis whine now
joel   (04.29.11)
egyptians should move military forces to gaza as well as send egyptian settlers. so if israel does anything stupid the retaliation should be brutal
2. gimme a break...
Mark ,   USA   (04.29.11)
They're going to open the Rafah crossing in order to facilitate the arabs obtaining more advanced weapons..forget relieving the suffering..that's BS for public Western consumption.
3. Muslim doublecross
Dovid ,   Huntington new york   (04.29.11)
The peace Israel negotiated with Egypt is but another Muslim doublecross. Israel gave away Sinai for transitory peace. Obama incessantly called for Mubarek, a staunch allie, to step aside. Obama has yet to make a similar request of Assad in Syria even though he is an anathema to US Mideast interests and his means of repression are quantifiably more brutal. Beware Israel. This is another Muslim doublecross.
4. Never understood why they closed it
Sophy   (04.29.11)
5. Gaza
michaelpielet ,   boca raton, Israel   (04.29.11)
Egypt should open up the crossing and repatriate all Gazans to Egypt where they belong. Begin should have insisted on this in 1979. The United States and the rest of the world will pay resettlement costs and make reparation payments.
6. #1
BRL ,   USA   (04.29.11)
I am sure it will be as brutal as 1967 or worse.
7. Let Egypt feed 'em
sabashimon ,   jerusalem, Israel   (04.29.11)
No Joel, what Israel needs to do now is finally tell the world that from the moment Rafah is opened, Israel will cease to allow ANYTHING to cross into Gaza from our side. No electricity, no fuel, no money, no "humanitarian" goods, etc, etc. Here's a good excuse to finally wipe our hands clean of these pigs. Should've been done long, long ago. And then, for every rocket or sign of aggression from Gaza, a Gaza City neighborhood gets razed to the ground. Two rockets? Two neighborhoods..
8. Dream on baby
Dony ,   Canada   (04.29.11)
Joel, #1 does not appear to be up to date regarding Egyptian, Israeli history................1967,1973. Is it that Joel has been reading revisionist Arab history as told by fellow incompetants?
9. #1 - as brutal as 1967 and 1973?
William ,   Israel   (04.29.11)
Egyptian's military cannot even enter Sinai close to Israel/Gaza without Israel's permission per the peace treaty THEY signed. Speaking of "brutal", that is one of the reasons why that clause was entered into the peace treaty. Personally, I'd like to see Egypt take Gaza back. Like water and oil, the Egyptian military and Hamas terrorism (with a few al-qaeda thrown in) won't mix well. Anything that passes through that gate, including weapons, is no the responsibility of Egypt - and they could pay as dearly as they did many times in the past.
10. "internal matters of Palestine" IS Israel's concern
William ,   Israel   (04.29.11)
Because the only purpose behind the narrative and existence of a "Palestinian" people and ergo, its govt, is to destroy and replace Israel. They - the people and the govt - did not exist prior to 1964 and no claims of "occupation" were ever levied against Egypt or Jordan when they ruled the area, sometimes very brutally. With that in mind, any internal matter of the "Palestinians" are Israel's business, because after whatever happens, it will always result in targeted attacks on Israelis and never in helping their own people.
11. Watch the flood of Gazans out of the Strip on Day 1
William ,   Israel   (04.29.11)
Many Gazans repeatedly said they wanted to leave Gaza, would even pay to be smuggled out but it was too expensive and too dangerous under Hamas' eye. Watch how many people stream out of the Strip when Rafah is opened, and watch how quick Hamas closes the border under some "passport" excuse to keep people in. After all, why let all those good human shields run away?
12. What Zionist threats?
Aviv Vida ,   Portlsnd, OR USA   (04.29.11)
It would be bette for the Muslim Brotherhood to let go of that kind of talk and move on with the times that are a changing.
13. This is a great move for Israel
David ,   On this planet   (04.29.11)
Close all borders with Gaza ,stop all supplies turn of the power and water supplies and wash your hands from faked Palestine. let Egypt have it and deal with it . If any arms are transferred or fired at Israel just destroy that strip completely
14. You just don't understand, joel #1, not
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (04.29.11)
even a scintilla. We can take Gaza and Egypt out, if necessary, whether the international community likes it or not. And, it looks like we will have to. Israelis all know there will be war. The retaliation, once we set our minds to it, will be brutal, joel. They'll say: "Israel has gone crazy"! You don't comprehend us, joel. Think "Never Again." It's a phrase set in every Israeli Jew's psyche. Remember, joel, "Never again!"
15. #1 read a world history book
Jeff ,   USA   (04.29.11)
Only reason Israel went into Gaza was because of Egypt attacking. And if Egypt sent troops and settlers in that would be considered a invasion,as well as a major violation of UN mandates,as well as Peace and Security agreements.Dont stoke this with dumb statements.Israel should seal that border and secure a buffer zone and GIVE it to Egypt.Who would want it,its crawling with terrorists that live amongst filth and squalor and love it.Screw em they had their chance.5 to be exact.
16. Moslem Brotherhood
Jay ,   New Havwn, USA   (04.29.11)
They are opening the border so Hamas can infiltrate Egypt. They want to be sure the Moslem Brotherhood takes control of Egypt. The effects on Gaza are secondary.
17. # 1 anything stupid
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (04.29.11)
joel ! war is a 2 way street, and if Egypt starts a war it may not end the way it was planned to end.
18. #1 Joel, maybe the Egyptians would try it
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (04.29.11)
if YOU would volunteer to go with them After all, it's quite heroic when you encourage others to fight while you remain at a safe distance Last time that Israel did something stupid is when she allowed the vanquished Egyptian forces to hightail it for home with their tails between their legs I suggest you review each and every one of the wars that Egypt started, she lost every one of them Aswan High Dam and Suez are easy targets, don't you forget it
19. Thanx Sharon
KACH613 ,   Juda, Israel   (04.29.11)
Anther disaster that will now take place because of the disengagement. A 5 year old could have told you the dangers that would take place now, but the Sharon government didn't give a damn. We must take back the Philadelphi rout at all costs!!
20. #1 Israel Withdrew from Gaza
Dallas ,   Canada   (04.29.11)
Where ya been since 2005? You need some new rhetoric. I have a suggestion - go visit Egypt, join their army, be on the front lines of what you are calling for. Idiot.
21. Take back the Philadelphi strip, bulldoze the tunnels.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (04.29.11)
22. Watch the Egyptians revert to type now.
Joel ,   WE ARE ALL SDEROT!   (04.29.11)
Israel should now feel free to move the Southern Command back into the Sinai in force, along with all the former Jewish residents of Gaza, who have not been compensated for the farce perpetrated by the so-called Arabs a.k.a. "land for peace". And if the Egyptians continue with their endemic stupidity revealed in there recent provocations such as cutting off the gas supply permanently, abrogating any peace "treaty" or continuing to aid and abet the hyenas a.k.a. Hamas, arm themselves to their eye teeth—they will get their stupid, fat lazy, butts kicked all over the sand lot again. This time the Sinai flies a Jewish Flag forever. Go ahead, make our next century.
23. Hey Tom Friedman
Rachel ,   US   (04.29.11)
Still think Mubarak's fall was a good idea?
24. The learn this BS from Westren democratic societies
john ,   cardiff   (04.29.11)
25. Great
Fredrik ,   Sweden   (04.29.11)
Then I suppose that Israel can cut all supplies of electricity, fuel and so forth to the thugs in Gaza and the WB. Let the wealthy and prosperous nation of Egypt pay for that now, I suppose they doesn't have any other use for their money... I certainly hope that the US cuts back on aid to Egypt as Egypt seems to be sliding away from the peace treaty. Rather strange actually, suppose they find it to comfy to have peace and would like to contribute to increase the chances of of war breaking out with Israel. I guess that it will be a convient excuse to blame lack of democracy/progress on the jews when the population belatedly realizes that the revolution didn't bring them what they really expected in terms of freedom and prosperity.
26. suuuurrreeee...
David ,   Los Angeles, USA   (04.29.11)
When Egypt decides to do something about it they will get their butts kicked... once again.
27. El-Arabi: closing the Rafah crossing was a shameful act
observer   (04.29.11)
meaning it has nothing to do with the recent deal between Hamas and Fatah.
28. So no need anymore for "humanitarian flotillas"
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (04.29.11)
And Israel can close all her borders with this region . Egypt will supply them with everything needed . But they need help by themselve .
29. Lid off the Gaza pressure cooker
Martin ,   SA   (04.29.11)
Lets see how the Gazans talk with their feet and leave hell hole created by their own brothers particularly Hamas. Hamas and other political groups used these people out to be a thorn in our side. Lets see if they Egypt and other neighbours will allow these so-called rejects to make a life in Egypt or elsewhere. The brotherhood needs their votes so need to show some hospitality over the next years.Hamas fear loosing control so pitched in suddenly with Fata etc it seems. They deserve to be abandoned for the brutality they allowed when everyone was locked in. Its time the Arabs took care of their own. Lets see more loosening up like this. Positive and humane evn though opportunistic.
30. #7,22,25 shift from Israel to Egypt
observer ,   Egypt   (04.29.11)
Aid supply and money transfer from the EU & Us will now shift from Israel to Egypt. Why not supplying Gaza with oil and electricity as long as those are paid in advance by the EU while they are subtracted from Israel's economy. Do you know what Israel's will gain? in the last opening of the border, the most common commodity purchased by Gazans from Sinai Bedouins was weapons, and the most costly as well. The weapons were actually stored in the Sinai in from the pre 73 war era; sold by soldiers or stolen from IDF. Imagine that those weapon depots are the sole source of arms for thugs in towns west of the Suez Canal and for family tribes in Upper Egypt. Israel will gain the PR reputation of good weaponry. In appearance it is very powerful but in reality it is nothing to be afraid of; it is a paper tiger.
