31. So now they can call off the Gaza Flotilla...
Grinch ,   USA   (04.29.11)
Right?
32. BIG DEAL
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (04.29.11)
First as we all know Egyptian border guards have been bribed for years...probably with Mubarak knowledge...so weapons have come in through Egypt anyways. You can't have numerous smuggling tunnels many with electricity, air conditioning and large enough to drive a dump truck through without the Egyptians knowing, they certainly are not that stupid and inept. So I don't think weapons is the issue. So part of this is simply political, it make the "Arab Street" happy. I'm sure another aspect is when Israel lifted the embargo of certain items, Egypt lost a lot of business, People went from buying over priced smuggled Egyptian goods i.e. refrigerators, microwave ovens etc., to better quality Israeli Fridges and at a lower prices. So Egypt wants that 1.2 million people buying products from Egypt not Israel. They could give a hoot about the so called suffering. Plus there are other things going on behind the scene.
33. The Palestinian Problem
Ian ,   Israel   (04.29.11)
Interesting time - the walls are closing in on Bibi and he can barely put out the raging fires around him.September is a fait accompli and as usual its been left until the last minute. Politicians fringe benefits are more important then the future of this country. It is about time that the State of Palestine finally come in to being anyway.
34. so much for land for peace
zionist forever   (04.29.11)
A condition of the 2005 Gaza pull out was an agreement with Egypt, EU & US that Raffah would be closed and all goods going in would be up for inspection. Looks like one land for peace agreement is out the window and that was Just Gaza. Change of government in Egypt and everything changes showing that a peace treaty only means peace as long as the arabs want peace and the terms of any future treaty we agree to now might change couple of years down the road. Today arabs want 1967 border In five years they want 1948 UN proposed border. Five years later they want a binational state Another five years down the road they want all olim to leave only native born Israeli's can stay. The peace process is not as black and white of create a palestinian state and give Syria the Golan have peace or don't give and have war as the left would have us believe.
35. Egyptian Politics Is Becoming Clear
emanon ,   USA   (04.29.11)
Yes, with Mubarak gone, the muslim brotherhood is now in charge. It is no secret the muslim brotherhood is allied with hamas and other terrorstinain organizations; they are all the same group under different names. Soon there will be cries of returning Egypt to the glory of palestine. Fine. Give them Egypt and leave Israel alone!
36. closing crossing was breach of Egypt -Israel Peace Treaty
observer ,   Egypt   (04.29.11)
Rafah crossing was built by the Israeli and Egyptian governments after the 1979 Israel-Egypt Peace and 1982 Israeli withdrawal from the Sinai Peninsula, and was managed by the Israel Airports Authority until it was evacuated on September 11, 2005 as part of Israel's unilateral disengagement plan. It has since become the mission of the European Union Border Assistance Mission Rafah (EUBAM) to monitor the crossing. Egypt was not signatory of the 2005 agreement, that's breaching the treaty. But the major breach was when Israel closed it in November 2006. It was not opened for the export of goods, another breach. Israel casus bellei when Egypt gained control of Tirane Straits to takeover after self-withdrawal of UN observers, irony!
37. #36; observer, What your point?
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (04.29.11)
First Egypt did sign the 2005 agreement although it was under some USA pressure as we see here: "On the Egyptian side, the responsibility is assumed by the 750 Border Guards allowed by an agreement of Egypt with Israel. The agreement was signed in November 2005 forced by US pressure, and specifies that it is under security requirements demanded by Israel" As far as casus belli what I have read was this: "On May 22, Egypt announced a blockade of all goods bound to and from Israel through the Straits of Tiran--a Casus Belli (cause of war) according to international law. So it Egypt that started the War, First throwing out the UN buffer forces to keep peace and followed by an act of War(on Mar 22 1967) to block the straight of Tiran. President Johnson agreed with this assessment. But really what was your point?
38. Israeli politicians now pee on themselves
Hazem Maher ,   Cairo, Egypt   (04.29.11)
we asked you for peace for long times almost your only response was killing more innocent Palestinians. you have to understand one thing your politicians fucked up every possibility for peace. now it is time for revenge , it is time for justice , it is time to pay back so prepare yourselves for Armageddon maximum five years and you will face it.
39. #1 Joel
Ralph Levy ,   USA   (04.29.11)
Another comment from a George Soros Intern. Joel you know I think it would be good also to have the Egyptians there I supported that for years because if they take over Gaza they are responsible for attacks from Gaza and will suffer the consequences from Israel if it happens. Also it would stymie any attempt to divide Israel.
40. why doesn't Israel just swallow all this Arabs already?
Eyal ,   USA ISRAEL   (04.29.11)
When will Israel realize that you just can't have peace with barbarian animals. They should also realize that the only way to have peace with Arabs is by simply destrying them. lol
41. #37 sealing of Gaza is another casus belli
observer ,   Egypt   (04.29.11)
Egypt, which had a mutual defense pact with Syria, asked the United Nations to remove the Emergency Force from the border with Israel. U Thant, the Secretary General, had to comply with the request because the force was stationed on Egyptian sovereign territory. But he also decided, on his own hook, to remove the Emergency Force from Sharm-el-Sheikh, which the Egyptians did not request. ?UN conspiracy. Once the fig leaf of the United Nations Emergency Force was removed from Sharm-el-Sheikh, Nasser had to close the Strait of Tiran to Israeli shipping for domestic political reasons. (Imagine what would happen today if an Iraqi vessel sailed down the Saint Lawrence seaway into the Great Lakes and the United States government did nothing to stop and search it. Update: Rafah crossing will be close next 3 days for vacation in Egypt.
42. #40 because Israel has not reached nazi level
observer ,   Egypt   (04.29.11)
43. #38 Hazem Maher - You're in La La Land
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (04.29.11)
Each and every war that Egypt started, it wound up losing Check history, not your fantasy versions Aswan Dam & Suez are great targets Israel and Egypt made peace, if you're going to break it, prepare for the unpleasant consequences, you're going to get your asses kicked again You're so vehement, are you ready to die for your country, in not, prepare to do so, Sinai still has plenty of space for your carcass I recall that I once saw an Egyptian soldier being slapped by his officer, upon which the Soldier said “Shukran”, what happened I don’t know, just that the took his lumps because that’s what was expected, prepare for your share of the lumps, or maybe a couple of meters of dirt with a marker bearing your name, that is if they take time out to bury you, instead of just leaving you there for the vultures and dogs to munch on Let's be realistic, you're merely a talker, not a doer, you're too scared to go out and fight, you just egg others on to do it, just you can play pretend warrior
44. Speaking of Palestinian Rights
Douglas Fireman ,   Chicago, USA   (04.29.11)
Badie called on Palestinian factions "not to listen to Zionist threats that reject this deal, which reveals their hostile stance towards a Palestinian truce that will return rights to Palestinians" The rights of peace loving Palestinians and Gazan citizens have been trampled upon by Hamas leadership. Hamas and Fatah never wanted peace with the Israelis in the first place. How can one live peaceably in the region with folks who continuously shoot rockets and mortars into Israel. We all have our own story- he did it, they did it- This is my land-no it's not!- and both sides have killed one another for years. Isn't it time for an Intifada of Peace rather than violence? Isn't it time to sit down and negotiate Peace face to face rather than add to the piles of bones ,that if placed on top of each other, would create a tower of astronomical height?
45. #41; observer, WRONG as usual
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (04.29.11)
We call that an apples and oranges comparison. Why? Pretty simple really! Nasser stated along with other Arabs leaders he was going to basically drive the Jews into the sea. The exact quote is HERE: After the withdrawal of the UNEF, the Voice of the Arabs proclaimed (May 18, 1967): "As of today, there no longer exists an international emergency force to protect Israel. We shall exercise patience no more. We shall not complain any more to the UN about Israel. The sole method we shall apply against Israel is total war, which will result in the extermination of Zionist existence". Pretty clear remarks as to their intentions isn't it observer? "Extermination", doesn't leave any room for doubt, does it? Then they closed the waterway (the act of war). By contrast, Israel was responding to terrorism and attacks on Israel. These included rockets, mortars, infiltrations and snipers just to name a few. So Israel chose a non-violent response as a weapon of self defense. BOTTOM LINE: Egypt was the aggressor throughout the war they started the war. Israel acts only in a defensive posture. So your WRONG, as usual. Stop drinking the propaganda Kool-Aid, it's affecting your IQ, soon you'll be down to shoe sizes. BTW, do you have any more silly comparisons, I'd be glad to enlighten you, as to facts over the myths you preach? No thanks necessary, I;m always glad to help!
46. #38 Hazem Maher
Anadelfos ,   Athens Greece   (04.29.11)
Dear Hazem what are you talking about? Don't you want to live and prosper in peace, make your family happy and try to improve the level of your everyday life?Unfortunately life is too short to waste it by spreading such warmongering speeches. I will repeat to you what I already said to another wanabe holywarrior. Even if Israel ceased to exist tommorow morning it would not improve your life at all. So you have to realise that your problem lies elsewhere and that is the corruption of your leadership who live in palaces while the people are starving. Learn to be tolerant and justicious towards other people, so that you enable them to be the same towards you.And please skip these hollow threats. Your audience is not consisted of elementary school students.
47. re: egypt and the palestinians
joel ,   usa   (04.29.11)
if egypt don't need money to help their poor country, then they should noit sell gas to israel and israel should stop in helping their agriculture productions, simple, if they choose to go not in peace, then they can be dealt with israel; the west have opened the way for the terrorist muslim brotherhood to rule egypt which has no oil but have the Suez canal to control oil to the europe, but israel can easily "lock" the suuez canal as it happened in 1967, ok?
48. on #7, sabashimon
joel ,   usa   (04.29.11)
yeah, the egyptians should "feed" the palestinians but the egyptians are also suffering from hunger as demanded by those protesters against Mubarak? or let them eat their "fingers". ok?
