David, you are right. he has no responsibility for anything done decades before he was born! I watched this documentary. i also read up on Rainer - he has lost his entire family over this, attempted suicide twice, is asthmatic (stress induced) and with four kids to support - as a chef, not as a journalist - recently had three heart attacks and is now unable to work the long hours that entails. No wonder he wanted to sell items - why should he not? Why should anyone get them for free? He needs the money to live on! Would it be OK for a jewish 3rd generation survivor to gain money from belongings of ancestoris - or wouldn't that be "trading"? This article is badly written and spewing hatred. The writer is twisted and venomous and despite seeing Rainer in pieces, was looking for any excuse to hate him; like the school gardener who beat him senseless when he was a kid - for no reason than his name. Rainer is laying ghosts. I suggest the writer of this spiteful, hateful article does the same. After all - he has suffered nothing, personally.
32. Re: Isabel Wood, Why don't we hear about his finances?

Disclaimer: self-loving Jew here. Isabel Wood said it best. Thanks for the information you contributed. That was my frist guess as well. The guy probably needs the money. It's a messed up situation, but I'm not going to judge him on that kind of thing. Okay, so maybe he isn't an angel. But he also isn't evil. We have all said a few lies and done stuff to make some money. laws are strict about selling Nazi paraphernalia so as not to encourage modern Nazism, but selling to Yad Vashem should be fine. I'm sure he has a complicated way of dealing with his personal history. A few troubling things came up, if he really did try to minimize actions, but the author of this ynet article glossed over those in favor of much less damning stuff. As Gil in TA said, ultimately this article is just poorly written.

Dear Eldad, I watched the documentary tonight, and I can only say from my heart, that Rainer appeared genuinely upset about his grandfather's crimes. I am a Dutchman, born after the war, and I have always supported the Jews. My mother witnessed her Jewish friends being deported in Rotterdam, and they never came back.To my mother, and to my family, what happened to the Jews has always been an enormous trauma, almost like it happened to ourselves. At school I did a project about Anne Frank, who happened to be born the same year as my mother. If there is anyone who sympathises with the Jewish peoppe it's me. I must say however, that in my opinion, the children and the grandchildren of Nazi-criminals are victims as well. They have been traumatized as well by the war. I appreciated the documentary, and I still hope it can lead to better understanding of why this unimaginable crime took place, and that it can lead to the reconciliation instead of discord and hatred. In the latter case, Hitker will have won, because that is precisely what he wanted.

SHALOM! thank you for Eldad Beck's comments! he has touched me deeply with his role in the documentary and his insight. while watching Hitler's Children, I was disturbed by Rainer's comment @ Auschwitz: "For us, the children, it is hell. It doesn't matter which side you're on, my side or yours." unbelievable, and now I understand why. Peace to Israel

Expecting someone to completely break down over something they didn't witness is kinda ridiculous. I also didn't realize family heirlooms had to be donated..

I just saw the documentary last night. I wanted to believe - my usual optimism and belief in humanity wanted to believe - in the sincerity displayed on screen. And now I read of this other side. People will accept sincerity, for these are not the people who carried out the horrific acts. Yet when their own actions cause yet more harm, in this case the quest for publicity and the selling of family items of unquestioned moral failing, I am so very disappointed.
