Scott, in each interceptor there are approx 20 missiles so do the math 4x20=80 missiles. these interceptors won't shoot only one missile and of course the IDF will reload them.

Hamas have around 30,000 short - medium range rockets. Hizbollah is believed to have more rockets than most countries. If this had been in use during Cast Lead or Lebanon within an hour we would have used up all of our $50,000 apiece interceptors in the entire country. For Israel if you just want to shoot down the odd rocket here and there its fine but under combat conditions its a total waste of money. The best defense is and always has been a good offense and we should not become to reliant on Iron Dome and allow it to be used as an excuse not to carry out a Cast Lead 2 if the rocket fire increases significanty. Its very kind of the US to buy these extra batteries but if there comes a time when they US i no longer wants to spend any money on Iron Dome batteries Israel should not invest to heaviy in it. There is valuable offensive weapons the IDF would like to have and should not be sacrficed so we can keep spending heavily that has no value in a major conflict.

I agree Hizbollah are more than a match for any defense system because they have more rockets than we could ever have Iron Dome batteries. What needs to be done if there is another flare up with Lebanon is for the politicians to stop trying to micromange the war and let the generals decide on tactics. Basically though no holds barred. Bomb the hell out of southern Lebanon till the whole are is a giant crater. Give the ground troops whatever they need to fight and give them the time to finish the job quickly. We want a quick and deadly war, it must not be dragged out for weeks or months which is what Hizbollah would like to see happen. Hit hard and get out and keep hitting them until they are down and out.

We have to agree to disagree. I agree that the system can't protect Israel 100%, however it can protect strategic targets such as command and control sites and airfields etc. The day will come when the playing field is level when Hezbollah and Hamas will have accurate missiles that can pin point airfields and other strategic sites that can make them combat ineffective, so this shield is needed even if it's capabilities are limited so it can buy time to utilize very strong offensive capabilities.

I do agree that in terms of protecting strategic military sites etc Iron Dome does have a use during a war but it cant protect the population in a war because they have more rockets than we can ever hope to destroy. If we want to stop the odd rocket fired from Gaza and protecting a strategic military site its fine but anything else its no use and we should not try and kid ourselves this is the magic bullet.

In his latest speech before the U.S congress, Netanyahu mentioned that Hezbollah poses a threat to Israel with its 12 thousand missiles. Even my grandmother knows that Hezbollah owns more than a 100 thousand missiles today.so how come your politicians are out of touch with reality?

you do know that one Jericho missile can wipe out the entire southern Lebanon not to mention the fact that if we want to finish the story with Hezbollah we don't even need soldiers, Hezbollah are lucky for having Israel around by the way we own over 3,000 Jericho rockets with ability to strike any place around the globe with with ability to carry over 1,000 Kg nuclear warheads, not to mention all our other abilities, i hope the terror cells won't be stupid enough to drag Israel into a balistic war because it will be their end in less than 3 days.
