1. It certainly is possible act
student ,   israel   (05.26.11)
All you need do is take a camera and take pictures of the Arab majority in Israeli Universities. which the Europeans boycotting. Just to show them how ridiculous they are... don't ever give in to the lies of the Arabs!
2. yesterday i saw a picture of an alegedly idf
stop arab lies ,   stop palestinian lie   (05.26.11)
soldier steps over a palestinian child. but the only problem was that the soldier DIDN'T WEAR IDF uniforms, but other army uniforms. it didn't stop people from thinking or condemning israel blindly...
3. No AIPAC in Europe
Michael ,   Haifa   (05.26.11)
...and the Europeans are less impressed by glib used car salesmen than are the Americans
4. Bibi to buy time
Ron ,   Israel   (05.26.11)
Why try to buy time when everyone in the world knows that sooner or later Israel will have to give up most of the West Bank? Why endure the disapproval of the entire world as a pariah state rather than just getting on with it? Now Israel faces the embarrassing and humiliating process of the rest of the world except the United States bringing more and more pressure on Israel until the inevitable is accomplished. Why go through sanctions, UN resolutions, trade embargoes, demonstrations and endless criticism? Does anyone but far right wing Israelis really think Israel can somehow keep the West Bank land and not the Palestinians? That has always been the desire and always will be the impossibility, might as well get used to it.
5. Settlements=unilateral=Illegal
Nina ,   NYC   (05.26.11)
Confirmed by ICC. But you already knew that. Am sure Lieberman will have the success he had with the Russians.

if the soldier in question did not wear an idf uniform how can anyone say he was\is an idf soldier ??
8. Uh-oh!
Dovid ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (05.26.11)
With Lieberman up there working for us, we should consider it a major victory if Israel's statehood is not revoked.
9. HAMAS MAY HELP ISRAEL THIS TIME
afried ,   USA   (05.26.11)
The fact that Hamas is part of the Palestinian Government will help Israel. Those that are on the border may be pushed against a Palestinian state because of Hamas. One must really wonder how any reasonable country can justify voting for a Palestinian state with Hamas as part of its government. They proclaim their goal of the destruction of Israel and the killing of Jews. It would be fair to call these countries that vote for Hamas as enablers of anti-Semitism and the murder of Jews. Also any true legitimacy on humanitarian grounds is lost when voting for an organization that clearly declares the killing of another race.

14. #4
Eyal ,   USA ISRAEL   (05.26.11)
You see, that is why left thinkers such as yourself got it all wrong. Bibi does want a 2 state solution and does want to give most of the West Bank and/or with land swaps? But not Jerusalem or accepting refugees, unless you are OK with a Philistinian Prime Minister? Don't you realize that it isn't Israel who doesn't want to negotiate, it is the Philistines who want all of Israel. Do you so much trust them, after seeing what happened in Gaza? Israel want to negotiate with your friends the Philistines, including final borders and land swaps. But what about security? What about accepting Israel as a Jewish State? Better yet, what about Hamas? I don't think there will be peace, which is unfortunate, but predict a huge blow for your friends the Philistines. For someone living in Israel, you don't seem to know much or just plain naive.
15. UN A SAD PLACE
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (05.26.11)
One of the reasons a lot of people, at least here in the USA, have no respect for the UN is these kinds of votes. I see it as giving a false legitimacy to a bunch of thug nations and their leaders. These are countries that we don't respect, many of the leaders are nothing but thug dictators. Yet in the UN they are treated as royalty, as if what they have to say is important, or as important, as Britain, France, Germany, the USA etc., and it simply isn't. So I have a problem with a guy with essentially the biggest gang in the country, and the one guy most willing to murder his own people, having a vote in the UN at all. Let alone on such a complicated issue as a new Arab state.
16. SOMEONE DROPPED THE BALL
yonatan silverman ,   tel aviv israel   (05.26.11)
The fact the foreign ministry is scrambling like a scared cat to shore up opposition against Palestinian statehood in the UN proves beyond any doubt that these so called professional Israeli diplomats have done nothing about this problem for two years. They have waited for the last minute - four months from the GA in September. The Palestinian state is pregnant with disaster for Israel. The fact the foreign ministry did not see this in advance and combat the Palestinians and their detestable campaign is disgraceful and inexplicable. Kossak Lieberman must answer for this
17. The leftists are fuming.
Jules   (05.26.11)
Over the past two years Lieberman has managed to restore the Foreign Ministry, which had been turned into "Ministry of Palestinian Affairs" by Livni. Some phony "peacemakers" (from the European Union) had to quickly retire after just a singe meeting with Lieberman. So the leftists believe that building Mediterranean alliance is wrong, or unachievable ? It looks like those guys have very short memory: they forgot that it had been Netanyahu's and Lieberman's efforts that allowed to promptly arrange the international firefighting force, which ultimately saved Karmiel.
18. #16; yonatan, YOUR RIGHT
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (05.26.11)
Your right, there always seems to have been a debate in Israel, about PR? The Pallywood crowd got a at least a 10-15 year jump on Israel. Some people think that if your on the side of truth that you don't have to do PR, that the facts will speak for themselves. They are WRONG! The old adage of if you repeat a lie often enough, people will begin to believe that the lie, is the truth. That's what the Pals have done and very successfully. People still believe, no Jewish people were in the Towers at the 9/11 attack,, that there was a crisis is Gaza, that the IDF started the fight on the Mavi Marmara, all Proof Positive, that lying works. Israel needs to promote the truth, it is that simple.
19. As the beebster said before a wildly aplauding
seadog1946 ,   ArthurKill, NY   (05.26.11)
US congress... "Israel will not negotiate with a Palestinian government backed by the Palestinian version of al Qaida." Israel must do something about this viper in their house!!!
20. Postponing the inevitable.
Michael Steiner ,   Bahrain   (05.26.11)
The Israeli government may arm-twist the Euros this time. Maybe even again next year. But the point will come when even America will say: Enough. Israel has no future in the territories, but I guess we'll have to find that out the hard way.
21. dunno its hard..... i hope so!!!

It's interesting how some people are so obsessed with the settlements... while completely ignoring the Palestinians' wet dream about annihilating Israel.
23. Israel has been too indifferent for past decade
Annie ,   Boston, USA   (05.26.11)
This situation has been brewing for years and years and Israeli's attitude of "it will be ok" and not taking the Palestinians seriously is coming back to bite them in the behind. Not that I blame the Israelis for the situation in the middle east, I don't. But they sure could have been more politically involved and taken the situation more seriously. As #16 said, they dropped the ball. This time, unfortunately, it will cost them more than they bargained for.
24. What is all the fuss about?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.26.11)
The United Nations proposes to declare a "statehood" on land over which a sovereign state has de facto and de jure control. This is absurd. How does the United Nations propose to enforce its declaration? With military force? Not possible. The United Nations has no mandate to commence military action; they can only insert peacekeeping troops, and only if the host nation permits. Israel is the host nation; permission will not be forthcoming. Moreover, while the General Assembly can vote to recommend certain actions, only the Security Council can vote to implement those actions. There is nothing in the United Nations charter that allows for the override of a veto by a permanent member of the Security Council. Of course, I think the best thing Israel can do is to simply annex Judea and Samaria. Then it becomes Israel proper. Israel then has the perfect right to repatriate the Jordanian expats that currently reside in Judea and Samaria. The West Bank is not “contested” territory; it is “non-sovereign” territory, which was acquired by Israel in the course of fighting a defensive war against Jordan. Jordan bestowed citizenship upon all West Bank Arabs and their progeny, irrevocably, in 1954. It is perfectly reasonable for a sovereign state to repatriate foreigners; all states have that right, all states exercise that right. Is it a charged issue? Yes. So what? Emotion does not trump international law. The foregoing notwithstanding, while I do appreciate and respect the fact that Germany and Italy have declared that they will not support a United Nations declaration “recognizing” an ersatz “Palestinian” state, I would like to point out that Europe is irrelevant, and has been for quite some time. Nearly all Western European governments are being held hostage by violent Arab and Moslem minorities. That’s their problem; not Israel’s. Europe simply does not wield the kind of power that it once had; it has nothing with which to leverage Israel. And they have nothing Israel wants …. or needs.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.26.11)
Wrong. Israel acquired non-sovereign Judea and Samaria in the course of fighting a defensive war against Jordan. Israel has every right to settle, and even annex, Judea and Samaria. Please educate yourself here: http://www.globalpolitician.com/24388-israel-jerusalem While you would benefit from reading the treatise in its entirety, please feel free to scroll down to the section titled "Law on Israel's Takeover of 167 Lands," particularly the subsection titled "Acquisition of Non Sovereign Land in a Defensive War."

27. Let the 'palestinians' commit suicide i say ...
Lee ,   Manchester UK   (05.26.11)
the proof is here - they do not and never wanted peace with Israel - only piece by piece of Israel. All they are doing is trying to circumnavigate the mandatory talks with Israel. Well after this latest 'palestinian' fiasco Israel will be free of any 'peace' talks with these sociopathic racist murderers. Jordan is palestine - always has been since 1947, they should've gone home when they could!
28. Ron #4, you are so right...
Timour ,   Lod   (05.26.11)
Can someone explain me why do we oppose their independance declaration? State of their own will be a blessing for Israel. Why do we wait for unfavored resolution of the problem to be forced upon us? That's infuriating! We had to complete the fence, route it according to our wish (considerating the other side's territory continuity of course), declare it as a state border long ago and insert that into constitution (ahh, sorry, we even still don't have constitution...). Bibi to stop buying time immediately otherwise it will blast into our faces. Our establishment to let them go. We should not decide for them when and how to declare independance, we should not decide how and if they should declare truce between their factions. The only thing we should care of is the further existence of Israel as a jewish state and really FIGHT when it comes to defend our country. It's so hurting but i clearly see that our establishment makes us weeker just because they are afraid of being decisive

someone with some foresight...ur right 100% and ive tried to explain this same point that.. no matter what sooner or later this year next year in 5 years israel will pull out of the west bank, so why not do it while we have the leverage and not later on on enormous pressure which will then make israel look weak....

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.26.11)
I respectfully disagree. Israel has end-played the ersatz "Palestinians" masterfully. Netanyahu's rousing speech -- with twenty-nine standing ovations -- before the United States Congress set forth several perfectly reasonable conditions for a negotiated peace process: 1. Fatah must repudiate its "unity agreement" with Hamas, as Israel does not negotiate with terrorist organizations whose goal is the destruction of the State of Israel. 2. Fatah must recognize the right of the State of Israel to exist in its ancient homeland. 3. Fatah must recognize the essential identity of the State of Israel as a Jewish state. 4. Fatah must accept that Israel will not return to the 1967 borders. 5. Fatah must accept that Jerusalem will never be divided. 6. Fatah must accept that there is no right of return. These are all perfectly reasonable requests, and were well-received. In fact, President Obama has espoused all of them, even the one about there not going to be a return to the 1967 borders (except Obama couched it a little differently; talking about "territorial exchanges" so as not to disturb the settlement blocs). All of the foregoing conditions, despite being perfectly reasonable, are unacceptable to the ersatz "Palestinians" because -- as they have made plain -- they are not interested in co-existing peacefully with Israel; they are interested only in supplanting Israel. Now, everyone knows this. All of Abbas' ducking and weaving have come home to roost. Israel did precisely the right thing -- when one is in the right, there is no need to say it publicly on every occasion. One ignores a spoiled child having a temper tantrum; that is how Israel has treated the ersatz "Palestinians," because that is how the ersatz "Palestinians" deserved to be treated. Abbas' frustration at not being able to get his own way caused him to act quite stupidly -- he threatened to enter into a "unity agreement" with Hamas (thinking it would "frighten" Israel into capitulating on every one of his demands) -- and when that did not happen, he had no choice but to enter into a suicidal "unity agreement." No one in the world will expect Israel to negotiate with an ersatz "Palestinian" organization that includes Hamas, whose rejectionist position is well known. Israel did not "drop the ball." They gave Abbas all the ammunition he needed to grow stupidly over-confident -- and when Abbas did precisely that, Israel promptly pulled the rug out from under him. Annie, the aspirations of the ersatz "Palestinians" for statehood are over. It may take a while for realization to set in, but have a look around. Did you notice that not one single head of state anywhere in the world has criticized Netanyahu's speech? NOT ONE. They all believe Israel's offer was perfectly reasonable (well, except possibly for Iran, but I note that they have not said anything, either). The biggest mistake that the ersatz "Palestinians" have ever made (and they have made so many) was to think that political goals may be achieved through public relations. The public may be fooled, but governments generally are not. Israel's long silence ended on Tuesday with Netanyahu's speech before the U.S. Congress. The impact -- as planned -- was stunning.
