1. Typical of Abbas
Devorah   (05.28.11)
Just a few days ago, before Bibi's speech to Congress, Abbas said he was not interested in negotiating with Israel. As usual, the snake speaks with a forked tongue. And, of course, he is asking for more money, this time in the form of a "safety net." They have received a king's ransom to date. What did the "palestinian" beggars blow it on besides more weapons, and who among them got wealthier?
2. Gilad Shalit
nilo   (05.28.11)
Abu Mazen is now made peace with Hamas, so now he also is responsible for what happens there. We must demand the release of Gilad Shalit.
3. Now the coward afraid cannot steal as much as before
Marco ,   Spain   (05.28.11)
This whole PA is a Pyramid Scheme turned upside down. The money comes to the top Mafia they skim off of it as much as possible and then a few drops reach down to the poor people. If money source dries out then both Mafia Bosses and poor people will get the same, meaning nothing. How fair is that?
4. Sanctions Expected by Abbas
Mark ben Josuf ,   USA   (05.28.11)
Abbas expects the US to cut off aid and funding. He expects that Israel will again withhold the PA tax revenues. His preference is to avoid Iranian funding. He also sees nothing in the Netanyahu 'offer' except a slight expansion of Area A at best. No end of occupation was offered as a reward for complying with all Israeli preconditions, certainly not independence. And capitulation gets him something that is nonviable, just a revised occupational regime. He has no reason to trust the US at all. So he is trying the only option left to him before abandoning the two-states-for-two-peoples idea completely.
5. NO NO NO
irv ,   usa   (05.28.11)
No to arab lies. No to twisting the truth. No to suicide. If the arabs want peace it should be based on the reality of Israel is not a figment on someone's imagination but a 4000 year fact that counters their narrative. Therer are plenty of opinions to go around, then there are the FACTS! The arabs don't care when the facts are contrary to th e truth they distort at every opportunity.
6. But of course! The Arab League MUST provide
Harry Wright ,   UK   (05.28.11)
full, unlimited and guaranteed financial support to their new Arab state which they encouraged Abbas to apply for. Abbas should not expect money from anywhere else except maybe the South American countries and the banana republics that will vote for the new state. He can solicit them.
7. Statehood
Dave ,   Bs.Aires-Argentina   (05.28.11)
Recognition of the Palestinian Statehood by the UN, without a peace agreement with Israel, will surely, result in a BIG WAR in the M.E., because Israel WILL NOT (and SHOULD NOT !) accept it passively. Keep in mind that, this Regional War, will be able to ignite a Nuclear WW III (G_d forbid). Wake Up, Western Nations (Mainly Eurabia)- and stop this non sense unilateral recognition !
8. Commendable move from the API Follow-up Committee
Muayyad ,   Palestine   (05.28.11)
In the absence of an Israeli peace partner, and 5 "nos" from Netanyahu, the PLO/PA have no other option but to convert global support and sympathy with the Palestinian cause into the recognition of the Palestinian State Of course, this does not mean that Palestine gains all her territory overnight, but would mean that Palestine is now able to press international institutions to enforce full sanctions on the occupying state!
9. UN GA has no authority to grant their request
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (05.28.11)
This is a PR stunt to bypass negotiations which the head of the UN GA has already said was not possible without Security Council approval. As a PR stunt the PA has already realized that it will cost them their operating budget and the backing of the US, Canada, and part of the EU.
10. The Arabs won't give much money.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (05.28.11)
They never have, they never will. Only the Western suckers support ''Palestine'' financially. The Arabs, by & large, make promises, then renege. The only real financial aid comes from Iran & Syria to Hamas, the rest from radical Islamist supporters to finance terrorism. The EU suckers will continue aid no matter what. The Obama administration will push for continued aid but Congress may decide otherwise. Israel, however, can cut off money to the PA - this is most of their budget. Here's something no one ever mentions - what currency will this newly declared bogus state use? At present, they use the Israeli shekel. There are many reasons why they cannot use $US or Euros. If they print their own currency, it will soon be worthless. Nor can they use Egyptian money or Syrian money. If the Bank of Israel refuses to furnish shekels, they are in BIG trouble.
11. Right on schedule!!
Baruch ,   Marin County, CA   (05.29.11)
Right on schedule, here it is - the timetable. The big drama that will ensue in the godforsaken media will be the countdown to September. Oh yes, buy your tickets now before they're all sold out! You can bet you'll get a front row seat to the latest "news", including photos and videos of weeping settlers being forcibly removed from their homes, while yeshiva buchers run for their lives against the backdrop of Israeli army troops evacuating them as bulldozers level synagogues... It's all so made-for-teevee that it's almost too predictable, wouldn't you say? This whole Nazi obsession is completely out of control. But of course, what would one expect when MK Yaacov Katz, aka, Ketzeleh, is holding the coalition together by preaching end-of-days theology. Let's get real, shall we. If we really want the territories then by God almighty take them and let's be done with this. Thank you.
12. # 11 not too fast
wmd   (05.29.11)
13. Viva Palestina
Jane   (05.29.11)
Yes, this is the only way since israel refuse to accept world-supported 2state solution.
14. To Muyad: no recognition with US veto
Leon ,   Los Angeles, USA   (05.29.11)
United States will veto a bid for palestinian State in the Security Council and it will go no further. US will look bad but Abbas doesn't want to negotiate and thats that. Palestinins wil get no state without negotiations.
15. ABBAS shouldn't have money problems
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (05.29.11)
There is no need for the USA and the EU to support him financially Just take a look at those billions of dollars that the Arab OIl states have extorted for their oil, which is about to bring the worlds economy into a Double Dip Recession Abbas should be swimming in a sea of oil money, which his brothers should be eager to supply
16. Give them the State
Daniel ,   TA and DC   (05.29.11)
I think providing the Palestinians with a state is a foregone conclusion. The question is where and how the borders of this state will be. The Palestinians want everything: the 1967 borders, Jerusalem, and the right of return to Israel. Clearly only some of this can take place. Let the UN GA give the Pals a state but let Israel dictate the borders. After all, Israel won the war against Egypt and Jordan. The West Bank is not occupied if it is not returned to Jordan. (who by the way, happened to conquer it in 1948 but that seems unimportant to current history)
17. They need to go further
Jon ,   Baltimore US   (05.29.11)
and find some way to penalize countries that block the creation of a Palestinian state. If the US vetoes UN actions to create Palestine, levy a punitive tax on oil sold to them, by ALL Arab nations. They will ignore it and buy the oil anyway and the money raised can be used to fund the PA when the US stops giving them any money. Also taxing countries like Canada will demonstrate that they can continue to block the fair treatment of Arabs but that there will be repercussions.
18. to nr. 2.
justice for all ,   world/planet earth   (05.29.11)
not only the release of gilad shalit, but also the release of the palestinian prisoners in "israel" and the real release of mordechai vanun u/john crossman and the end of the hate-mongering against the "israeli" leftists and against the palestinians and other arabs. the other party/side has to end the hate-mongering against the jews. hopely perhaps this is a way to accomplish peace in the middle east at last.
19. #13 Jane - Y.ES, it is the ONLY way...
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (05.29.11)
...for the palis to REJECT recognising Israel as a JEWISH state. Or to renounce TERROR. Or to FULFILL all its obligations from past AGREEMENTS.
20. #4 Mark ben Josuf - So WHAT did Abbas BRING to the table?
CK Tan ,   Singapore, Singapore   (05.29.11)
Care to REVEAL exactly the CONCESSIONS - if any - that the palis are offering at the peace talks, Mark? Your CLAIM that "His preference is to avoid Iranian funding" is self-DECEPTION cos HALF of Abbas' unity GOVT - is financed by Iran. Abba's STONEWALLING of any talks with Netanyahu is NOT a recent occurrence. He has been doing this SINCE Netanyahu took office (an exception of Abbas wanting to talk being the settlement FREEZE.) If you believe OTHERWISE, then feel free to SHOW all media reports that PROVE it.
21. Frankly we've about enough of the Arab League
Ypip ,   Canada   (05.29.11)
Enjoy your Qaddafi with the security council.
22. #16: Forgone conclusion?
Israeli 2   (05.29.11)
No. It isn't. "Clearly only some of this can take place?" NO. None of these will take place. Dreaming is free. Keep on dreaming.
23. smart move by the arab league to further isolate israel
christianpalestinian ,   mclean, virginia   (05.29.11)
israel is a sinking ship as time is clearly against the zionists. tick tock tick tock tick tock.
24. "Negotiate on our terms, or we'll impose a solution"
Jewish Warrior   (05.29.11)
That's basically what Abbas says. He says he will negotiate on terms favorable to him. It always amazes me how the defeated can try to bully the conquerors, and the conqueror treats them as equals.
25. The Arab League can go to Hell
Brod ,   USA   (05.29.11)
All they do is continue fueling the tinderbox of the Middle East.
26. bid
colim   (05.29.11)
Well of course the arab league wants legemacy for the so called malestines. These are the same criminals, murderes thieves thrown out of the arab states NOW WHO WOULD WANT TROUBLE BACK Let the americans and the europeans have the headache. The league must push another state away from arab countries.
27. # 10. Well, they can barter their wives and children
Harry Wright ,   UK   (05.29.11)
That will make an excellent currency. Four wives and forty children means they are rich.
28. 20 CK Tan - Not that You'd Believe It
Mark ben Josuf ,   USA   (05.29.11)
Abbas offered to recognize Israel and it's conquests up to but not including 1967. He offered to allow major settlement blocks if Israel compensated for those with land swaps. He even proposed the land swaps, but Netanyahu refused to allow any Israeli to touch the paper. Abbas offered to resolve the Palestinian refugee issue with settlement of most in Palestine. He did want freedom for Palestine and independence and sovereignty for Palestine, with negotiated borders. You can use Google to discover all the back up you want. Try "Palestine papers" for a start. Then read the Netanyahu speech. he offered occupation forever with a slightly bigger Area A that probably would shrink over time, with no independence, no sovereignty and no ability to self-govern. That is all in his speech to Congress. Now with the US out of the picture, Israel will have to resolve its demographic problem on its own or maybe with Canadian assistance. Jews are already in a minority living west of the Jordan River. It is doubtful Jordan or Egypt will be of assistance.
29. Suckers like the US, the EU are truly unique
Janeau   (05.29.11)
To Irv USA - # 5. The truth arabs distort at every opportunity, well said. I might add that arabs are mankind 'distortion', a distortion of the gods (even muhammad's) a distortion of logic and common sense. A universal disaster. A Trillion $ cesspool fed by Sarkozy & co. and Obama & co.
30. #13 Rubbish!
Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (05.29.11)
Issrael accepted a 2-state solution in 1947. It was called the partition plan. However, the Arabs, thinking they could wipe out Israel and gain both states, refused, so the plan never got further than that - doesn't exist today. So, 7 wars later, with the Arabs/Palis no nearer to gaining a state, what do you suggest? Or are you one of those who would like Israel to curl up and die? And didn't you hear Bib say to Congress that he does - and he's always said that - support a 2 state solution? so why are you fantasizing and making up lies? Crawl away, lady. wonder where you live?
