Jeremiah 31: [31] Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: [32] Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: [33] But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Ezekiel 36: [24] For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. [25] Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. [26] A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. [27] And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

goyam go to hell. Only enemy of Israel or some one "limited" will say such a thing. We need more conversions and be more open and less "tribal"

What forced conversions are you talking about? There is no such thing. People convert for all sorts of personal reasons, but they are not forced to. And what evidence do you have that non-Jewish soldiers have less rights than others?
12. #4 They are not the deceivers
David Olesker ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.11.11)
Most of these people are the children f people who came here legally under the Law of Return. We are not talking about people who forged documents and pretended to be Jewish. They are the non-Jewish relatives of Jews (and non-Jews) from the former USSR who took advantage of the very broad eligibility granted under the law. Who can blame them? The fault lies with us and our unwillingness to face the inevitable consequences of such a liberal policy. Now we have to try and make sense of the consequences.
13. Americans slamming young soldiers in army should go to
Esther ,   London/tel aviv 21yo   (06.12.11)
Hell. Who do they think they are? They haven't even been in the army but tell young Israelis how to protect the country, which those commenting on are too scared to move to/too old to be of use in the army

d. wassermann ,   haifa   (06.12.11)
many jewish people, were jewish in their countries of origins to be then called "non Jewish" by haredi controlled authorities. without the last big aliya-wave arabs+haredi would soon have a majority in israel. neither arabs nor haredi serve normally in the army (there are some exceptions). we need to thank and embrace our new immigrants and understand that where they came from they were treated as jews regardles if father or mother was jewish. sadly arabs and

A ,   Belgium   (06.12.11)
Does this mean that Druze, Beduin and other non- Jewish residents of Israel, who proudly and faithfully serve in the IDF, will be forced to convert too?
18. 17 Forced conversion is not a..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.12.11)
valid conversion.
19. Answer to 17. Question
(06.12.11)
Nobody is forced to convert. The only thing is that the army offers a kosher life program and jewish studies for soldiers who have for example a jewish father and want to convert. The army gives a good opportunity to not only defend Israel but also to reconect with someones roots and heritage through learning, studies and jewish customs and holidays together with fellow soldiers. Nobody is forced to enlist to these special programs and opportunities. It is all absolutley voluntarily. To my knowledge almost no druze participate in these programs since they are amed at father jews from Russia and other countries.
20. ultra orthodox attack on modern-orthodox army conversion
dr. wassermann ,   haifa   (06.12.11)
the article fails to mention that this is an attack on state and army supervised conversions from ultra-orthodox haredi elements who try to monopolize conversions.
21. #7 Ohad
American Sabrah   (06.12.11)
There are plenty of Anglo Olim who enlist in the IDF and serve our country nobly just like any sabra Israeli. Whats even better that they are Jewish. I don't have issues with gentiles serving in the IDF.They just need to swear their loyalty to the State of Israel (which a lot are).As an oleh myself, I was never granted the privilege to serve in the army. I have a lot of respect and admiration to those who do. But those who don't enlist are not necessarily worthless either. We contribute to the country our own way.Mind you, there are those who illegally evade the army service. I know plenty of Israelis who left the country to avoid the draft. Most of them flee to the country of "fat spoiled hamburger, coke & fries, Superbowl Americans" and end up becoming just like them. That is cowardice.
22. Jewish Law forbids forced conversions
American Sabrah   (06.12.11)
In fact, we are commanded to discourage them from converting 3 times. If a non Jew serving in the IDF is still interested in his/her Jewish roots and wants to explore the prospect of conversion, then he/she may look into it.Most Orthodox batei dinim will only agree to facilitate in the conversion process if the convert is willing to live as a religious Torah abiding Jew. He/She doesn't necessarily have to become haredi. They must minimally pledge to keep Shabbat,Kashrut, and Taharat Mishpacha to the letter of the law.
23. To # 4 Frank
Abu Yussef al Yahudi ,   Bue_Aires_Argentina   (06.12.11)
Your post is disgusting and absolutely RACIST. Your statements are against the teachings of our holy Torah. You are despising all the brave Non-Jewish people that fought in the IDF to defend the State of Israel of her mortal enemies.. As a Jew living in the Galuth, I'm very upset by your senseless post AM ISRAEL CHAI
24. Non-religious "conversion" is needed, like in America
Michael ,   California, USA   (06.12.11)
Haredi reader, before you curse me, please be informed my IDF service took 5 1/2 years. Plus miluiim. Religious conversion is a meaningless ritual in a secular, egalitarian, democratic State. Israel belongs to Israelis, the citizens of Israel, not to Jews or Muslims or Christians or Buddhists. Everyone who wants to be citizen and has shown worthiness by Israeli laws, and who will serve Israel in IDF or the Fire brigade, or as a worker with sick in hispitals, whether Arab or Druze or Cherkess or Beduin ought to be granted Israeli citizenship after passing a test, like in America. It is called "Naturalization" process in America. Google "Naturalization in America" and read up. There is a test in history and the need to show linguistic knowledge, maybe more now? This is the correct way to become "converted" into a citizen, in addition to serving the State as determined by law.
25. I also agree with #7
JO   (06.12.11)
such racism is unbecoming. This guy forgets the most of those who come and join the IDF are of Jewish ancestry. What they dont care for is religion but most have very strong ties to Israel and Jewish culture though not religion. For most religion is a separate thing from Jewish national identity and culture. That is why they do not convert, they see no reason to do so and can express themselves without religion. If they believe in the moon what of it?? I have met many brave men in the army who are ardent Zionists, some of whom have paid the ultimatum price in death, and yes, some of those of Jewish ancestry but not of Jewish religious law.
26. to #24 you want to destroy the Jews
Jewish Whale ,   Haifa, Israel   (06.12.11)
Dear Michael, Conversion in Judaism means that one accepts upon himself the 613 mitzvot. One can not become a Jew if he denies this. If after the conversion process one gives up halacha that is a different issue, and on a technical level is as if any Jew is not abiding by Torah law. To say that secular conversions are not equivalent to naturalization in the USA- there is freedom of religion both places, IDF service is the naturalization rite. If the State of Israel, and more dramatically the Jewish people globally, accept secular conversion, then we are saying that it is ok to inter-marry, the Jewish people will cease to exist within 20 years. Halacha says what it says- there is no obligation for someone to convert-period. anyone who wants to force that on someone is clearly a bigot and ignorant of his own religion and culture. Of course this wont be posted as ynet has shown disdain towards my last several pro-jewish .
27. No. 7 Jo
NYC Girl   (06.12.11)
I couldn't agree more. After all, being an atheist or agnostic and being an ardent Zionist are not mutually exclusive. In fact, there are probably more of us out there than most people realize. And it's certainly true of more than a few Israelis...many of whom are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice serving in the IDF.
28. Conversions are strictly volunteery
Martin ,   USA   (06.12.11)
These non Jews convert only if thet want to. Remember Israel is not 100% Jewish. It's 75% Jewish. The rest are Moslems, Christians and Druze.
29. To Dear Ohad #7
Eli ,   Jerusalem   (06.12.11)
I am an American Oleh...but not chadash. I did my Army service and so did my children. We are neither fat nor beer bellied but do admit to loving hamburgers. Sorry to disillusion you son, but we were in combat units and actually fought in wars. Maybe you should leave your momma's apartment in Tel Aviv and get a real job somewhere or move to Judea and Samaria where you could be useful to the nation.
30. Don't shove conversion to Orthodox Judaism as an only option
Mikey ,   SomeWhere OverHere   (06.13.11)
But help facilitate it for those who sincerely desire it and wish to commit to it--but it should be done out of the army framework. In any case, respect and honor all soldiers' religious traditions (or lack thereof).
