I did a little research to see about his life, he seems an amazing man. To use one of my favorite phrases, it's PROOF POSITIVE, that one man can make a huge difference. There definitely is a movie in this guy, his life reads like a fiction novel. As they say truth is often stranger than fiction. I'm always amazed how some people who are powerful and influential shun the public view. Of course much of his activities were clandestine in nature so I guess it's not that surprising.

although it is the first time to read about him but he is considered a hero as he volunteered to help the Haganah paramilitary group to acquire aircraft that means that he helped the jews to win 1948 war against the arabs in the war of the independence it is unfortanetly to read about this great man when he is dead !!!!!!! shalom

Al Schwimmer was always larger than life. He belongs to a generation that gave the world to understand that the Jews have risen from the ashes and have a mind and a manner all their own now. Ominous, however, with regard to Pollard, is that it took the US administration a full 51 years before they were prepared to pardon him. And it took an earlier US administration hardly 5 minutes to dismiss their forcing a ship packed with over 900 Jewish refugees (the SS St. Louis) fleeing Hitler back to Europe and the ovens.

All I've heard about IAI is how Shimon Peretz got it going. I'm glad the truth is told and credit given where credit is due. May he rest in peace.

It is always sad when one hears about the passing of such a special person. Although I am much younger than the late Al Schwimmer I,As a kid found myself in his company with my late dad,Tuxie Blau who was a Machal pilotl in 1948. Al was for my late father a hero of the highest order and on many times up to the time of my fathers death Al's name came up many times when my dad reminised the good old days with his Machal Flying buddies.My condolences to all his family

A great hero,may he rest in Peace. I believe he grew up in Bridgeport,CT USA. My Dad told the story of when he was playing cards at the local Odd Fellow Lodge with Al.s father, the FBI came busting in looking for Al. Needless to say, he was long gone. LOL
