1. The partition plan was never implemented
Historic Israel   (06.19.11)
it was rejected by the arabs and therefore was invalid and was never approved.
2. Smart Friedy!
Kathy ,   US   (06.19.11)
3. Simple response
Mark ,   USA   (06.19.11)
I've got a simple response to Mr. Friedman, that phony NYT "journalist"-STICK IT!
4. perfect. Arabs out of Israel Now! Go to Palestine and Jordan
(06.19.11)
5. Who asked you?
Bless israel. ,   United States   (06.19.11)
You live in New York, try living as an Israel. These same borders were rejected by the pals. Go back to writing more leftist drivel. Out of touch with reality. Why not give the New York Indians back the $7.00 and call it square?
6. What a watse of of newsprint
Marv ,   Israel   (06.19.11)
Mr. Friedman has all the answers. Fotunately, nobody listens to him. Otherwise, there wouldn't be an Israel anymore.
7. In a better world, this might not be a bad suggestion.
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (06.19.11)
But in this world, it's a non-starter.
8. Friedman follows Obamas talking points
afried ,   USA   (06.19.11)
....and what happens if the palastenians take the borders and now want to flood the reduced Israel with 5 million refugees or alternatively send rockets into Tel Aviv from these undefensible borders? Will Friedman come and stand on the front lines with Obama to sheild Israelis from these attacks? I think not. Hence opinions are like ___ ____ everyone has one. Friedman is a typical left leaning Useful idiot. He has enormous leap of faith especially over his presidents and golfing buddy talking points. Even the Saudis after Egypt are taking things into their own hand and do not believe Obama gets the middle east. Maybe Friedman should grow some pair of B___ against what is happening in Syria and suggest his president grow some at his next golfing trip. It seems he and his president love to kiss I_____ A__.
9. Why not go back a drop further
Zev ,   Israel   (06.19.11)
and include all of Palestine including Trans-Jordan.
10. It still means 1967 borders.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (06.19.11)
This fool takes us for fools. Well, Mr Friedman, no matter how you twist the words, your idea stinks. It's still the Obama plan which is still the Palestinian Plan. Face it, Mr Friedman, you are a stale has-been, you haven't had anything worthwhile to say for the last 20 years. Do us all a favour & go back to writing about how much you love China or some more re-hashed Malthus. Aren't you embarrassed that so many people think you're a bit of a crackpot or just a conformist hack writing for Pravda-on-the-Hudson? Is ''when you have lemons, you make lemonade'' supposed to be clever, have great intellectual depth, show a masterful understanding of a complex region? Well, to me it just sounds glib, superficial, forced, & quite frankly, stupid. Please, take your lemons somewhere else, take them to the White House, they have an appreciation of lemons. History cannot be turned back, the last 63 yrs created consequences & a new reality. If you're so enamoured with old resolutions anyway, then go back to the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine which included, by the way, ALL of Jordan as part of the proposed Jewish homeland. What's the use, I don't know why I'm wasting my time arguing with a brain-dead liberal idiot.
11. Uncle Tom Friedman
taub.mike ,   jerusalem   (06.19.11)

14. Friedman is in LaLa land
Rosie   (06.19.11)
Friedman needs to get real and stop being a stuge for Obama. He sounds so stupid. Like a simpleton.
15. old tom is a nut, pompous, bloated, flatulent, wrong
dante ,   uk   (06.19.11)
friedman would probably make a good public school teacher. aside from decisions about his career, the toughest thing that ol' tom has had to decide is what diet he should try. but in his delusions of grandeur thinks that he has the wisdom to decide momentous issues of state, affecting the lives of millions of people. he is a fool. he should try writing cookbooks.
16. Friedman the court "jew" trying to distort history!
David ,   Washington   (06.19.11)
there is no such thing as "palestine" or "palestinians"! PERIOD!
17. What? he's back again? WHY!?!?!?!?
Talual ,   Israel   (06.19.11)
He's just a friggen annoying columnist - why does he make it to the newspaper here? No-one is interested in his opinions in Israel - it's been proved from the talkbacks from the last three news items about him. Read our lips... WE DON'T CARE WHAT HE HAS TO SAY!
18. thank you my lord, a greate article, now you can shak my
shlomi   (06.19.11)

19. better idea
Ex-tibetan   (06.19.11)
Tom--Why don't you bring a few suggestions to your Chinese friends about withdrawing from Tibet or your Turkish pals about withdrawing from Cyprus, or for that matter from your American friends about withdrawing from California which was stolen from Mexico?
20. I can't resist another jab at Friedman.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (06.19.11)
He's such a transparant ass (as in jackass), such an intellectual light-weight, & such an incredible shill for lefty anti-Israel BS. So here's the deal. Obama screwed up the whole phoney peace process, such as it was, no doubt on the advice of his anti-Semitic advisers, what's that creepy Irish lady's name, right, Samantha Powers, Susan Rice at the UN, & Hilarious Clinton. The Palestinians, being the bunglers that they are, seized upon Obama's blunders, & went on to make even bigger blunders. Being the short-sighted jerks that they are, they went for a UN bid without negotiations. To further that goal (and some other less savoury goals), they also came up with a sham unity deal with Hamas. They climbed way up high in this tree with no ladder. Turns out, this idea is not what they thought. As a matter of fact, it is turning into a mess. Now we come to Friedman's BS. Obama does not want to veto this illegal bid at the UN. He'd just love to stick it to us. But, it's an election campaign year, he needs Jewish votes (mostly Jewish money). At the same time, he doesn't want to offend Palestinians or Muslims in general. So, he needs a ladder to get Abbas down from that high tree. Israel is supposed to pay for the ladder. Hence, Mr Friedman's stupid article.
21. Wrongheaded and misinformed too
Arlene Kushner ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.19.11)
It's been obvious for some time that Friedman is an enemy of Israel. But this suggestion makes him foolish as well. There was never a Security Council vote to partition. The vote -- Resolution 181 -- was in the General Assembly, and thus only a recommendation with no weight within international law. In fact, the entire proposition, as outlined here is totally untenable in terms of how the UN operates, what Israel's positions are, and what is going to transpire. Lemons? It's Friedman and the NYT that are lemons.
22. Well said Terry @#10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Israeli 2   (06.19.11)
23. Friedman has really gone off the rails with this one.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (06.19.11)
Is this his own dementia, or is he simply shilling for the Obama administration? Friedman should know that the Resolution 181 took place in the General Assembly, not the Security Council, and was therefore merely a recommendation. It had no binding authority. Since he's proposing radical changes from GA 181 - ignoring the original borders, the corpus separatum that included Jerusalem and Bethlehem - he's essentially proposing a new arrangement. So why pretend it's an attempt to make real a defunct resolution? Friedman is not fooling anybody. He should find a new gig.
24. One of two things must happen...
Lobo ,   USA   (06.19.11)
1. Whatever drugs Friedman's been smoking should be taken away. OR 2. He's off his meds (again). Somebody give them back!
25. Enough Already
Tony ,   Teaneck, USA   (06.19.11)
Friedman should tell his boss Obama to give back his home on occupied Hawaii to the native Hawaiians
26. What a ridiculous amateur article!
Jay3 ,   Israel   (06.19.11)
The only solution is to make Jordan the Arabs share of Palestine....like was originally planned!
27. What to do with lemons
Eric ,   Chicago   (06.19.11)
