1. Blockade
Nadya ,   California, USA   (06.22.11)
Why continue this blockade that looks so bad to the rest of the world and gives Israel such bad press when the Rafah Crossing is open now? Maybe it's time to surprise the world and tsp the Blockade.
2. The pirates are trying an encore - no more toy guns
Rene   (06.22.11)
It's about time that our leaders show some bacbones. Mush is the only ingredient I am able to discern so far, and I don't like it. The NYtimes, CNN, CBS, the main media Sh..it should be arrested if they cross the line; finger printed, jailed, heavy fines, eqipment confiscated. Let's not be polite with these arrogant " va nu pieds " They show their contempt of our State, our people, our laws daily. Let's return the compliment (for a change), with a heavy, firm hand. Let's show them that we have freely elected leaders in our country.
3. #1 The Blockade
Ian ,   Israel   (06.22.11)
Bibi has got to be one the most stubborn unbending PM's that this country has had the misfortune to put into power. But he wants to keep the blockade for the Lieberman factions no matter that it will always make the country look like a tyrant. But tyrant it is .And its not as if arms, ammunition and perishables are not being smuggled in.The blockade serves no purpose except maybe to appease some MK's and other elements.Bibi is so stubborn and so blinded that he does not see the damage he is doing. When September comes its going to be a mess to say the least. How long will the world suffer Bibi's indifference and total incapacity to make changes and give the Palestinians their own homeland ? The flotilla is on Bibi's head. I hope that IDF handle it better then the last fiasco and what ever happens, there are no more unnecessary deaths
4. #1 - thank you for proving the author's point
William ,   Israel   (06.22.11)
namely, that simpletons are so easily manipulated by the whims of a subjective media. Your post shows that you believe the blockade is nothing more than a punishment of Gazans for not playing nice. What it is in reality is a definitive measure, resulting from Hamas' declaration of war against Israel and its people - AFTER 7 years of rockets that fall on civilian targets. It's not surprising that lemmings like you would simply demand Israel to "lift the blockade" because YOU don't like it, but you seem to have no opinion on Israel's human rights of safety and Hamas' constant war crimes which is illegal under every law - hence the reason Hamas is categorized as a terrorist group in the US and Europe. Rather than demand the blockade end, your self-righteous ilk, from so many miles away, should try to understand the situation more objectively and ask why? Indeed - with all of the information accessible at your fingertips, it's baffling to see you content will simply being told what to believe.
5. 4 - sometimes looking from afar give a clearer picture
Daug ,   TA London   (06.22.11)
Seems your head is burried deep inside your ass. Learn something ..
6. Simply supporters of Hamas
Stephen in New York   (06.22.11)
The flotilla spokespeople state that they carry no aid. Adam Shapiro stated that the aim was political, to keep Gaza in the public view. Many flotilla participants and supporters state that Hamas is the legitimate government and that Hamas are freedom fighters. This effort is all about true useful idiots supporting Hamas.
7. easy solution
david ,   new york   (06.22.11)
hold the new york times and cnn responsible. we need some laws quickly to allow the goverment to sue organizations that break the law. these organizations make their millions off of their operations in israel. israel can do more damage to them then they can do to israel.
8. Re: # 1, #3
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim   (06.22.11)
B"H You are conveniently forgetting, with the rest of the uncaring for the Jews crowd out there, that from Gaza a.) Israel withdraw almost 6 years ago and b.) that from there Arab explosive projectiles are sent over on the heads of our civilians, on women, on children and on the elderly. Tens of thousands of rockets and RPGs, two of them just yesterday. So, a blockade is more than justified, a lot more hostility against terrorists would actually be justified.
9. #3
A ,   Belgium   (06.22.11)
A stubborn, unbending PM like Bibi is EXACTLY the kind of leader Israel needs right now. Arms and ammunition ARE being smuggled in to gaza, and if Egypt only makes feeble efforts to stop smuggling through the tunnels than Israel MUST make a firm effort to stop the smuggling from the sea. Remember the Iranian ship stopped by the Israeli Navy and towed to Ashdod? Did you see the ROCKETS and other heavy equipment on that ship? Was that supposed to be "humanitarian aid"? Bibi has every right to tell Oblabla and any other world leader "NO", precisley as did PM Shamir..."Mr. No" as the Americans called him. The palestinian "dream" will stay so because of their own incompetence and stupidity and blind hatred, instead of making an honest effort at negotiating for peace with Israel. Bibi is doing the best he can to divert a disaster, which was not the case when to two washed up weaklings, Rabin and Barak, almost gave the country away in exchange for "promises" by terrorists, one of whom was arch terrorist Arafat. Stand strong, Bibi and Lieberman, and say NO.
10. Easy solution
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (06.22.11)
Announce strict enforcement of the San Remo Maritime Treaty before they sail. One verbal warning, one warning shot and then sink whichever vessel refuses the legal enforcement of the blockade.
11. #1 Hamas declared war
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (06.22.11)
They can end the state of war at any time by surrendering peacefully, ending hostilities and freeing Shalit. Don't want to surrender? Then deal with the blockade as a result of declaring war.
12. Treat them as Terrorists
Jonny ,   South Africa   (06.22.11)
Treat the journalistsl as terrorists, lock them up and keep them locked up as long as Shalit is not released. No contact at all with the outside world. No contact with their families. If journalists from any newsagency is involved, expell them from Israel.
13. journalists on board.......
tiki ,   belgium   (06.23.11)
So what? They are grown ups and know exactly what they are doing. IF it will come to a confrontation, in which people (journalists are just people, maybe more annoying but people) will be hurt or worse, it will be 'their own responsability. Nobody forced them, on the contrary. Israel might get "bad press, but hey what's new? Some of the fools (including the journalists) who want to 'teach Israel a lesson, might not be able to write a press report ever again. Somebody should point that out to those "media hyena's who are even willing to risk their life with the only purpose to vilify Israel. Idiots is a compliment.
14. There's a lot of talk about a Palestinian State
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (06.23.11)
which at this time, seem s be just a lot of Jabber, Abbas can't decide if he's going to declare it or not As for the Flotilla, all Israel has to do is detain them offshore, where all on board will barbecue in the hot sun of the Middle East Nothing quite like 110 Degree plus temperatures to soften hostility and dampen enthusiasm, especially when the reflections from the water intensifies the heat Now, one basic question for all those that are in favor of the Flotilla HAVE YOU RESERVED YOUR SEATS ?
15. flotilla
gwen ,   nederland tx   (06.23.11)
It is time that organizations that have some sense but a stop to these "useful idiots" before more people are killed. If you assist this group in anyway (even encouraging) by reporting then you are responsible if there are deaths.
16. Journalists are supposed to cover wars
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (06.23.11)
NOT INCITE THEM If they interfere with the IDF carrying out it's duties, heave them overboard
17. What about journalists embedded in Iraq or Afghanistan?
A ,   Jerusalem   (06.23.11)
Are they 'active participants in illegal acts' too? Should we just shrug when journalists around the world are targeted?
18. Are you discredited embedded journalists???
Japs ,   France   (06.23.11)
I was very surprised to read this comment "Having established that both the flotilla participants and the accompanying media need each other, can we honestly count on the New York Times, CNN and CBS as well as other “embedded” journalists to report on the situation with objectivity..." It sounds like a vibrant critic of the vogue of "embedded journalist within combat units", that was promoted by this site and others, on some recents conflicts, am i true??? If you assume that embedded journalists loose the ethic notion of objectivity, why continue to do so with the IDF, the US or France or other western army?...
19. To no.3 The blockade was imposed not by BIBI
George   (06.23.11)
It was imposed after Scahlit was kidnappened still in Sharon's Government. You are such a puts to criticise BIBI per se by mere hating a lftist hate that is damaging Israel. Give Palestinians their Homeland that could be solved, 1. Accept Israel as a Jewish State 2. Accfpt defensible borders Res. 242 of the UN 3 solve the refugee problem outside the borders of Israel One more thing: Read your facts better the arab narrative is full of distortions and lies
20. #17 A.Jerusalem
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (06.23.11)
Hundreds of Journalists have been killed covering wars by willingly inserting themselves into combat situations for the purposes of getting stories When a journalist interferes by getting in the line of fire, it's his own choice, armies engaged in combat are not baby sitters For instance, read some of the stories posted by the N.Y.Times, which always favors the Arab side, which proves that paper is far from being impartial, there are other media that act in a similar way, such as BBC or CNN They're willing making themselves the targets because they're being compensated for covering a war zone They can stay safe at home, then nobody will have be concerned for their welfare For all I know that camera that you're pointing in my direction sure likes like an RPG from a distance, I am not going to take chances that it isn't
21. to # The Blockade
lidia ,   israel   (06.23.11)
Aren't you afraid that that the real intention behind the creation of a palestinians' state is the end of the state of Israel?
22. Another Possibility
jed ,   davis california USA   (06.23.11)
There is another possibility. Namely that the presence of the media will act as a deterrant to ANYONE using violence. The flotilla organisers don't want violence to mar their non-violent protest . Nor does the IDF want to be seen as using unjustified violence. If there is no violence it would be a win for both sides.
23. NOT
RC ,   USA   (06.24.11)
I absolutely, positively disagree with you there!! Why would Israel do that, so Hamas can have more routes to smuggle in weapons and cause trouble? Israel can do what she needs to maintain peace and security... and doesn't need the rest of the world to dictate what is best. Obama, above all-- should mind his business. When he protects our borders, then he can make suggestions to another country. Israel is a sovereign state... and has a right to exist in peace... though Palestine and the Arab world disagrees! Get real.... open your eyes and see what's really going on-- the problem is not Israel!
24. Name NAMES!
Craig ,   NY, USA   (06.24.11)
LIST THE NAMES of these so-called journalists. I have a feeling that some have an anti-Israel track record.
25. NY Times is at it again
DavidM ,   USA   (06.24.11)
This is not the first time the New York Times coddled terrorists. On September 11, 2001 the TImes ran a gushing profile of a domestic terrorist who lamented that the terrorists of the 1960sand 70s did not bomb enough. The NY Times also invited Libyan tyrant Qadaffi to write an op ed rejecting the right of Israel to exist.Unfortunately the New York Times is at it again.
26. Some are missing the point
Moshe ,   Netanya   (06.24.11)
Journalists MUST be killed first. Then the rest of the gang. At war you don't check who goes on myrtirs mission and must be killed. Then we will get good press and most people will like us. How to kill? There are several ways and I hope the Army knows them. These are very small details. Imagin, in the 1970 the Arabs kill all passengers on the plane and get alive. Or Munich Olympic when brave non-athlets killed our wrestlers-- that was the storry that helped Arabs and the press then. Something less than 50:0 will be bad press.
27. #24 Craig
Malone ,   Hfx   (06.24.11)
Brilliant deduction Craig,lol...
28. One must also consider
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (06.24.11)
that their camera lenses, from a distance, look like weapons being pointed at us Why take chances that they aren't what they look like ? It won't be the first time that weapons were concealed inside of innocent looking cameras, and who is to say that those posing as journalists don't have terrorists hidden in their midst
