While all houses of prayer are made holy by their prayers it should be faced that most Israeli synagogues are neither big nor beautiful and many visitors here are shocked that in the diaspora synagogues are much more beautiful architecturally and play a unifying part in the community not just to pray in.A truely neighborood synagogue not ethnically controlled could play a vital part in changing society too many are "privately owned " and controlled and serve a limited population how sad,

I had the priviledge to live in Tel Aviv for a few months; at the time, I had no religious affiliation. Tel Aviv, is a beautiful city. Like any big city, there is always a "dark and seedy side." My two cents: Those who wish to seek kedusha and spirituality will find it in Tel Aviv. Those who want to participate in zenoot will also find that there. "Sin City" is a state of individual choice...don't give the city a bad name. Aside from which.....the same could be said about Haifa or Eilat!
