1. Jail the Ayatollah
Haim ,   Tel Aviv   (07.04.11)
Im assured he will get kosher 3 meals a day, prehaps he could stay in the Sh-ass wing with the other Sh-ass nicks . Plenty of time to study Torah infact 10 years would be appropriate for his crimes of incitement to murder.
2. What is the law here?
David ,   Modiin   (07.04.11)
The illegality of the book at the heart of this issue is, to say the least, moot. It apparently aims to explain the opinion of the Rambam and other scholars on a certain issue. Whether or not you like their opinion is surely beside the point,. Elucidating what they said should be protected under academic freedom. In essence, therefore, it seems that Rabbi Lior was originally summoned by the police for an interview, without being accused of any specific offence. His subsequent arrest ihas been justified by his failure to obey this summons. The legal issue therefore hinges on whether or not the Rabbi (or indeed any citizen so summoned) is obliged by law to attend. In a democratic country, one would expect the authorities to have the right to arrest someone only if they have reasonable grounds to believe an offence has been, or is about to be committed. Otherwise, they might ask someone to help them by giving information, but not compel them to provide it. Can someone please explain what exactly is Israeli law on this point? Do the Israeli police really have the power to compel someone who is not accused of any crime to attend for an interview?
3. do we want a civil war?
yoni ,   tel aviv   (07.04.11)
dont we have enough wars with our enemies? why do we need to have homegrown enemies as well? do we want to figure out how to unite or how to divide our people? the only way to unite the Jewish people is by way of Jewish education and Torah study. Every Jew must be familiar with Torah and everyone must be afforded a Jewish education about the validity of and implications of Torah. Otherwise we are doomed....
4. Manipulated Statistics The EliteSpeak
TheEliteSpeak ,   china and israel   (07.04.11)
I dont know where these "statistics" were taken had to be from a few square blocks of North Tel Aviv or an audience at the elite Cameri Theatre at the intermission after a few cocktails as it certainly doesnt reflect the public most of us know or the radio talk shows opinions. Blatant munipulation of the media but the public knows who the media are.
5. Embarrassed to be Israeli Today
Ayelet HaShachar ,   Maale Adummim, Israe   (07.04.11)
So, basically, the attitude of most Israelis is,"If you don't like someone's opinion, then arrest them." Of course, you will conveniently ignore inciting Arab MKs and leftest professors. What is that about? I don't understand. Is this a hold over of the secular, Soviet Era Communist based Zionism? Perhaps you are embarrassed that Jews are not immune to racism so you have to hush it up abusing the force of the law? It may be a great system for some of the Israelis from the survey today, that is until the government changes and they are the ones being called into questioning for expressing an opinion deemed "offensive" by the majority. Banana republic. Police state. Dangerous precedents.
6. #3 Yoni Yes i want a civil war
Haim ,   Tel aviv   (07.04.11)
Sorry buddy but if you want to belive in a man in the sky and fairy tales thats your choice, but you wont force religion or its rules on non belivers. As a secular person i belive we are heading for a civil war and i for one welcome it . We will fight for freedom and democracy and will never bow down to the likes of the right wing and their so called religious leaders. C U on the battle field buddy
7. 1 Haim You can do more useful...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (07.04.11)
things than bashing rabbis. One of the Ynet TBers, we all know, is defending now extraordinary well the Israelis, in the foreign press. What he is doing is USEFUL. You are wasting your time,Haim!
8. If you don't like someone's opinion, then arrest them
Shimon ,   Tel Aviv   (07.04.11)
And if you are NOT a Jew, you can get killes
9. Secular G-dless Stalinist men in uniform in Israel
Chaim   (07.04.11)
would arrest Jews for begging G-d every Pesach "Shefoch chamoscha el hagoyim - [G-d] put out Your wrath upon the goyim..."
10. Seculars anxious to burn the Torah
(07.04.11)
which forbids them from intermarriage with non-Jews, eating non-kosher food, transgressing the shabbat, immorality...
11. Ynet agenda
Fanni   (07.04.11)
These statisitics also tell us something about Ynet. The haredim and ultra orthodox do not read Ynet - there may be a picture of a woman, etc. So the relevant statistics are of seculars and general religious: 77% and 57% respectively support the arrest. Yet after moderation Ynet publishes mainly comments that oppose the arrest. So, why do they do this?
12. Lack of respect for the Law
Ehud   (07.04.11)
First, he was neither arrested nor handcuffed, but held up for interrogation. Second, this was because he refused to appear after repeated invitations. Third, if he thought the police were overstepping their authority, he could have filed a complaint at a court of law, or could have turned directly to the Supreme Court - a privilege not every democratic country grants its citizens; in most of them you have to start with the lowest court. But the Rabbi didn't want to do this, exactly because of his disregard for the courts. Democracy is neither anarchy, nor lawlessness, nor disrespect for legal authority. So start to show some respect for the system before shouting bolshevism and spare us the whining and the righteousness!
13. You are such a liar or ignorant, #9
John ,   Europe   (07.04.11)
It is for IDOLATERS or for goyim that persecute Jews. And you either know this, but you are malevolant, or you are an ignorant on the level of antisemitic, only different side of the river. So do us a favor - either start learning or convert to Islam.
14. Israeli law specifically excludes religious texts
Ovadia   (07.04.11)
Israeli law specifically excludes religious texts from the definition of incitement, so the prosecution is moot on the face of it. Torat haMelech is a religious book which explores halachic attitudes toward the killing of enemies of the Jews. Efforts to ban Jewish religious books did not succeed even in Ukraine and Nazi Germany, but in Israel the book’s author is prosecuted on charges of incitement.
15. Why no jail for Eyal Nir and radical imams?
Joshua ,   Pittsburgh, PA USA   (07.04.11)

17. 16 marko War for democracy?
Ora ,   JERUSALEM   (07.05.11)
It is thanks to democracy that the orthodox people have their way.
18. That makes sense...
Dan ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.05.11)
This is the two-thirds who will be destroyed in the War of Gog uMagog. " And it shall come to pass throughout all the land, says the Lord, two parts of it shall be cut off. They shall perish, and the third shall remain therein." Zechariah 13:8
19. HAVE YOU DETRACTORS READ THE BOOK??
yosef ,   galut   (07.05.11)
20. Civil war will happen because religious are obstinate as*hls
Michael ,   California, USA   (07.05.11)
