1. Borders
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.12.11)
Speaking of borders, were Israel to make Tripoli its new northern border, that would pretty much solve the problem. More loose talk out of Beirut, and that just could happen. Clean out the trash heap that is southern Lebanon in the process.
2. Lebanon has the right to defend itself
Alas ,   Canada   (07.12.11)
Where have we heard this before? A country claiming the right of self defense? Israel perhaps...? The borders that Israel set cut into Lebanese waters. Lebanon has all the right to defend its naval territory.
3. big bad pussy lebanon
gk ,   baltimore md   (07.12.11)
more tough talk from the arabs..go ahead and defend your border and it will get took again..
4. what don't they dispute .. smoke screen for assad
izzie irgun ,   usa   (07.12.11)
Everyone knows the drill ..israel finds gas, arabs claim its theirs ... so who cares what this joke has to say. We know hezbollah does not want another confrontation with israel so talk is cheap .. this blustering is just covering for the hariri scandal and the fact that in another month assad will living in beirut and syria will be lead by sunnis who hate the shites in lebanon and iran. Can hardly wait.
5. Beirut will defend its borders
zionist forever   (07.12.11)
I geuss the Israeli defense establishment are quaking in their boots at the thought of a showdown with the Lebanese military. If the Lebanese military decide they want to send their patrol boats against Israeli missile boats and subs they are more than welcome. Their light attack helicopters v the IAF should be interesting and their aging armor v Merkava 4 .. i think we will be talking about a 6 hour war this time if that. If Hizbollah make trouble then it will be hands off this time and we will bomb the hell out of southern Lebanon and provided the politicians let the generals decide how to fight the war rather than trying to micromange it from air conditioned offices then it should be a very different result to 2006. Bibi should speak with AIPAC because right now Obama seems to support the Lebanese decleration of where the borders are. Whilst the US Jews might love the palestinians they don't like the idea of their presidebt supporting Lebanon's attempt to set the border potentially taking at least a share of Israel's gas fields. Going direct to the UN is mistake because we don't have a hope in hell of the UN taking Israel's side. At least if we don't go to the UN at all we can say we don't reciognize the border the UN has dictaed.
6. I am so glad the Arabs are brainless
Eyal ,   USA/ISRAEL   (07.12.11)
I would like to see a map though.
7. @#2 Alas! its sad. snt it?
Lenya ,   Australia   (07.12.11)
Alas! its tragic that you don't have any idea. Alas! that you don't seem to know that Lebanon had originally agreed with the maritime borders that was set by Israel and Cyprus. Alas! that suddenly they have changed their mind because of the discovery of Gas. Alas that their greed has got the better of them. Alas! that Hezbollah has Lebanon's ball in their grip. Alas! that they wont get anywhere with their misguided tantrums. Alas! Alas! Alas!
8. Which mutually contradictory borders is he defending?
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (07.12.11)
The ones Lebanon created with Cyprus which contradicts their newly discovered borders?
9. to nr. 2.
justice for all ,   world/planet earth   (07.12.11)
well said. you are completely right!
10. #2 alas
solomon ,   bklyn   (07.12.11)
Lebanon first claimed maritime borders that were further north than the Lebanese borders shown on Israeli maps. This second time around, they show their borders much farther south in order to [coincidentally] 'claim' gas fields. Much like arabs now claim the Western Wall is 'only' the al-aksa wall, with no connection to Jews. And Rachel's tomb is a mosque and has no connection to Jews. Only people like you would believe them. Open your eyes.
11. Mr sulieman You Are Offically A Terrorist State
(07.12.11)
Hizubullah has Infiltrated All and I mean All Facets of lebanon. Saad Harari's Father was murdered By Your Government. I think You Have Much More Important Problems to think of fixing before your maritime Tantrum May Hashem show You The Way? Yella
12. Nothing new!!!!!
~~LENGUALIMA~~ ,   I   (07.12.11)
What is strange about Suleiman's statements are the living representation of the attitude of the Arabs for nearly 100 years. If they say that Tel Aviv, Jerusalem belongs to them, we can expect them to say something different from the territorial waters of Israel. If they say that the Western Wall belongs to them, these statements should be surprised?. Nothing new under the sun.
13. The U.N. has no jurisdiction ...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.12.11)
... because Israel is not a signatory to the Law of the Sea Convention.
14. More Israeli firsts coming
Stephen in New York   (07.12.11)
Israel again will be the first to develop methodology and hardware to defend a new front: gas and oil networks at sea. I’m not aware of any other defense force that has had to actively protect its energy production infrastructure.
15. greater israel
gandolf ,   canada   (07.12.11)
Lebanon is part of greater israel , its only a matter of time ,
16. # 2 Lebanon has the right
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (07.12.11)
Chalas ! You mean Iran has the right ,because Lebanon as an Iranian vassal has no rights at all.
17. #2 - and your proof is....Lebanon's sole claim?
William ,   Israel   (07.12.11)
How much research did you actually make into the subject before immediately siding with Lebanon? save yourself the humiliation and take a moment to look at maps and the erroneous claims of Lebanon, who is trying to move the border south from its previously undisputed demarcated line of 1923. Hmm, where have we seen before Arab leaders trying to usurp property from others and claim it was their's all along? Try the entire ME and North Africa for 1300 years.
18. Wasn't Lebanon already invited to talks but rejected them?
William ,   Israel   (07.12.11)
Israel and Cyprus together invited Lebanon to join talks to officially demarcate the maritime border but Lebanon refused citing the state of war with Israel (since 1947) and other erroneous issues. The truth is none of the politicians (and one large illegal terrorist group) could agree on the law defining energy exploration off their coast. So, Israel and Cyprus moved ahead without Lebanon, as they should have. That's why Lebanon is upset at the move, it was "an affront to Lebanon" but not illegal. Arafat learned the same lesson when he sat on his hands after Israel offered land for peace in 1967.
19. Ha!!!!
Vlad   (07.12.11)
Ooh, I bet Bibi is shaking at the very thought of confronting the Lebanese!
20. @ Alas No. 2
Vlad   (07.12.11)
The borders Israel claims are in compliance with an agreement between Israel and Cyprus observed by international law experts, and a previous border agreement between Lebanon and Cyprus.
21. Lebanon forgets it is at war with Israel
jgarbuz ,   Queens, NY   (07.12.11)
and has been since 1948. It has never recognized nor singed a peace treaty with the Jewish state, so what case does it have? If it refuses to recognize Israel and refuses to sign a peace treaty that sets borders, I don't see what kind of case it can make before the UN or anyone!
22. US talkbackers make me sick
Gil ,   Tel Aviv   (07.12.11)
I see you're all talking about war here and how Israel's gonna kick Lebanon's ass. Will you be doing it? I wonder if "zionist forever" and "gk, baltimore" and Sarah B "USA/Israel" actually live in Israel, pay taxes here, are in the IDF or have kids or family that are?? War is serious. Its not a joke. If there's a war its for certain that tens maybe hundreds of Israelis will die. Think about that before you go shooting off your big John Wayne gun mouths.
23. #22
Rose ,   Rehovot, Israel   (07.12.11)
Yes you are right, such people are called [at best] arm chair generals.
24. There will be no war, Lebanon has no nukes, now no oil wells
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (07.12.11)
25. Annex it, G-d cant be that fool to let down the chosen
observer ,   Egypt   (07.12.11)
The sea must have been G-d promised too.
26. #22 take a deep breath and relax
Tahl   (07.12.11)
Nobody said Israel seeks an armed confornation with Lebanon. It is Lebanon who's doing the threatening, not Israel. None of us wants war, but if the Lebanese would actually go ahead and mess with us, they would be very sorry. That's all people are saying here, and there is absolutely nothing wrong in saying this.
27. #2Alas Lebanon's friends
Raphael ,   Netanya   (07.12.11)
These waters are also claimed by Turkey, Egypt and "Palestine". The Lebanese will have a hard time against these competitors.
28. Quite quite ridiculous
Sammy ,   Newcastle   (07.12.11)
These are issues that can be discussed and mapped quite amicably between Israel Lebanon and the UN according to International Law But here again we see the foul hand of Hezbollah and Ahmedinajed making threats..looking for any and every excuse to stop cross border cooperation and destabilise the region to further their own agendas Thats why for the sake of Lebanon, Israel, Palestine and indeed the whole region the sooner we see the end of Hezbollah and Ahmedinejads interference the better for all our futures
29. To: No. 22
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.12.11)
1. I spend roughly six months of the year in the United States and six months of the year in Israel. 2. Yes, I pay taxes in Israel. A great deal of taxes, if you must know. 3. I served in the IDF. My children will serve in the IDF as they are Israeli citizens. 4. Since you are so clearly very poorly informed about my personal circumstances, the best advice I can give you is to keep your mouth well shut.
30. #9 and as usual, you are completely wrong.
solomon ,   bklyn   (07.12.11)
