I am not certain that the recent aborted "fly-in" is a good example of an improvement in relations with anyone. It is human nature to like the strong, self respecting and despise the weak and appeasing. That largely explains why Israel was so much more popular before the Oslo Disaster - when we were viewed as a gutsy little nation. Many potential friends are disgusted by Israel's pathetic appeasing ways, which the left has inflicted on us. Hopefully, we will quickly end this lunacy. The majoy problem here is that is possible that most governments understand Israel's unique dilemma; however these governments including the USA do not do a good job at educating their publics as to why they support Israel, which inturn turns to hatred of Israel by the very people that put those governments into power. So lets make a better PR effort and educate the world. I know that whomever I have brought to Israel has completely changed any negative opinion they have had of our nation by simply being educated. In the USA, I hear more often why do we keep giving Israel money? Or enough is enough. So we need to change such small minded views since it is not just giving money but getting so much more in return.

As a person living in Europe, working exclusively with non Jews, I can tell that most of the persons I know are certainly not against Israel. What those persons are asking me if the "wall"" is necessary, if we couldn't give away some land to the poor palestinians because Israel has "300 atom bombs" and is sooo strong. Israelis, surrounded by ennemies, don't see the whole picture and are making the wrong conclusion that the whole world is against them, because of some silly vote in the UN or declaration by some lefty 'pots'. Yes, you have the famous poll's, where the persons asked, are mostly from Arab origin... So, what I can tell: the non arab or lefty population are for Israel but need some explanation. The governements are something else: they need to balance their policies. In hart they are mostly for Israel.

You're right that your enemies will dispise you less, but that does not mean they will be your friends. It does mean that they will be disinclined to wage war against you.
