1. delusional in ramallah
izzie irgun ,   usa   (07.12.11)
it is remarkable to think that the PA had israel by the short hairs and totally blew it ... thank g-d the palestinians are such idiots. Is there any doubt that the Quartet was, ready to go after israel and side with the arabs. But now we read that when the PA opened its mouth it blew the Quartet away by making statements that conclusively prove they have no interest in peace on any terms other than their own and that won't cut it. Israel is on a roll these days. First the floatilla collapesses, then fly in never materializes and now the Quartet is giving the palestinians nothing. Let them go the UN in September, it will be the move that enables israel to unwind Oslo and really take a hard line. So thank you Mahoud, any intelligent leader would be winning the war right now but thanks to the PA Israel is coming out on top. And it gets even better, pretty soon Congress will pull the PA's funding and we all know that without US money the PA goes down quickly. Lets se how that UN ation works out for ya, mahoud.
2. We knew this all along. They want no peace
Israeli 2   (07.12.11)
3. Don't blame the "Palestinians" for trying...
William ,   Israel   (07.12.11)
blame the Quartet for being gutless and easily manipulated. Funny that Erekat preceded this article with a claim that the Quarter succumbed to Israeli pressure.
4. So what exactly will Israel gain with peace with Palis?
William ,   Israel   (07.12.11)
"Palestinians" want the "establishment of an independent Palestinian State and total peace".... yet, after such peace is made, the "Palestinians refused to "halt demands from Israel"...they also refused to" recognize Israel as the nation State of Jews" while they cite their State as the "nation-State of Palestinians"....and further, the PA refuses to "modify their education to cease all enmity towards" Israel. So what exactly with a "palestinian" State get Israel? The liberals say Israel will finally see peace. The "Palestinians" say Israel will never see peace.
5. In respose to the last sentence...
Adam ,   Golan Heights Israel   (07.12.11)
....you are on the cusp of apocalypse.
6. Arafat's Takiyya was cleverer than this amateur
eurabia   (07.12.11)
7. PA OBJECTS,TURKEY OBJECTS,HIZBOLLAH OBJECTS.......
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (07.12.11)
...and the Quartet and UN hold up statements and reports to accommodate them. When did they ever take any notice of objections from Israel? THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
8. The Quartet
Steve ,   USA   (07.12.11)
The Quartet is a useless entity anyway. Anything they decide is never implemented and now you have the PA dictating to them (always the case). The US and Euro's need to stop giving money to the PA once and for all. This latest statement by the PA shows it's true colors as those of use here already knew. They will not give or agree on anything in the end. They should be taken for what they say this time and not ignored. They will never change (i.e. education, recognizing Israel as a Jewish State etc.) . Stop the money! Let them stew in their own mess.
9. Is this what is referred to as "screwing up a wet dream"?
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (07.12.11)
If it was a sport the Pals would be perennial winners.
10. In other words ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.12.11)
... nothing has changed. The ersatz "Palestinians" continue to be their own worst enemy. Except for the so-called "Third World bloc" in the United Nations, no one is going to support an ersatz "Palestinian" declaration of statehood, and the General Assembly can say whatever it wants and can applaud as loudly as it likes -- it has no enforcement powers. The Security Council will quash this bid by the ersatz "Palestinians" eleven ways from Sunday, and it will end very badly for the ersatz "Palestinians." They are a people congenitally incapable of learning from their mistakes. They seem to harbor a notion that they can dislodge Israel -- they cannot -- and that the world will come marching to Israel's borders in order to help them achieve their despicable goal -- it won't. One might think that the extensive efforts expended by so many countries to stop the silly flotilla and to keep terrorist sympathizers from boarding aircraft to Israel would teach them a valuable lesson. Evidently, it has not. You will NEVER lose any money betting on the ersatz "Palestinians" to do something incredibly stupid and self-defeating. Israel's the big winner in all this, and that suits me down to the ground.
11. #6 - that's because people more willing to believe Palis
William ,   Israel   (07.12.11)
We've seen it - whole groups, even country leaders, buying into the "palestinian" narrative without even visiting the Middle East. Look how quickly populations believed the "Jenin massacre" lie, the unfounded war crimes accusations against Israel during Cast Lead, or the baseless accusation of organ theft by IDF. I wouldn't call the "palestinians" (either PA or Hamas) amateurs. They just have a lower threshold to meet these days. Here's a great example - Hamas admitted publicly to their guilt of war crimes activities and the death count of their terrorists during Cast Lead and NO ONE noticed! The same accusations based on lies were still be waged against Israel.
12. Palestinians are Israel's saving grace
Rachel ,   US   (07.12.11)
Their stupidity know no bounds. They pretty much guarantee Bibi will fulfill his term and get re elected. So even if a state is established, it's not the end of demands? Can't wait to hear Livni tried to spin this little detail!
13. #10 Palestine Papers prove you're lying
Wissam ,   Palestine   (07.12.11)
Go read them, they are acknowledged as facts by the PA clowns and Mr. Omelette. Your constant lies about Palestine refusing peace and "generous offers" is pure baloney. Finally the world is seeing who the bad apple is, and that should be declared in September.
14. UN statehood for Palestine
larry Butler ,   kibbutz Israel   (07.12.11)
A joke here on the ground in Israel , without us the whole statehood thing from the UN means nothing but more occupation!! wake up and smell the roses ,start to talk with us ,or suffer another 60 years. we can wait!!!
15. 'Israeli sources'...truly comical reporting
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (07.12.11)
Gee, I don;t suppose these vaunted 'Israeli sources' have a point of view and are trying to 'spin' the story? Give me a break.
16. Middle East Quartet is
Salma ,   Palestine   (07.12.11)
Another face of the Zionist lobby . can go to hell.
17. THE TRUTH COMES OUT
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (07.12.11)
So even if there was a peace deal the Pals will NOT recognize Israel, will NOT cease teaching hatred towards Israel to the Pal kids. Yet Israel should still make peace? This certainly takes the BS out doesn't it? So much for the "settlements" being the main obstacle to peace, right? The Pals want peace, a state plus the right to teach their kids to destroy Israel, and never recognize Israel and the right to exist. Oh well, most of the sane people in the world knew that already. Only the fools on the flotilla who live a la la land, and their ilk believe anything else.
18. The writing is on the wall!
Maurice ,   Montreal   (07.12.11)
"...The Palestinians also refuse to halt all demands from Israel once a peace deal is signed, and oppose demands to recognize Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people as well as to modify their education to cease all enmity towards the state, sources say. " Is there anything else to add here? And israel's enemies claim that Israel is the one who doesn't want piece. Enough said!
19. The Arabs want our lands
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (07.12.11)
Pure and simple, without any Jews. This is what they attempted in 1948, again in 1956, 1967, 1973 and 1982. All with the same result. We should deport the Jordanians back to their own lands.
20. #16 Middle East Quartet is...........
Justine   (07.12.11)
by salma, Palestine You lot are those that live in hell, and nobody but you cursed arabs made that hell. Stay there salma, you seem to be thriving in Hell. Keep well and bye bye!
21. #15 When you don't like what you hear...
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (07.12.11)
...sailor, you question the sources. Especially if it makes us look like the reasonable ones.... Concessions, concessions concessions...We're fed up ,sailor
22. Even with friends on board such as Catherine Ashton ..
michael redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (07.12.11)
The PA still never misses and opportunity to miss and opportunity. That's excellent for Israel!
23. #15 mikesailor
solomon ,   bklyn   (07.12.11)
You are the one always hinting at [nonexistant] spin. But your post is not up to your usual par.
24. #13 wissan
solomon ,   bklyn   (07.13.11)
You are right, in that there were concessions made (by both sides). But where are they now? You guys had to back off the moment they were exposed due to their unacceptability to the arab 'street'. Which begs the question: should they be considered real concessions if they couldn't have been initiated? And does the following show concessions are on the table, or is this a non starter? "The Palestinians also refuse to halt all demands from Israel once a peace deal is signed, and oppose demands to recognize Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people as well as to modify their education to cease all enmity towards the state"
25. The New "Three No's" !
solomon ,   bklyn   (07.13.11)
"The Palestinians also [1] refuse to halt all demands from Israel once a peace deal is signed, and [2] oppose demands to recognize Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people as well as [3 oppose] to modify their education to cease all enmity towards the state, sources say."
26. This is the one exploring cosmetics
Ypip ,   Canada   (07.13.11)
While we've learned how to treat a goat.
27. #10, Sarah B., wrong again
Jon ,   Baltimore US   (07.13.11)
Typcial of the hisbara program, Sarah B. does not address the article or specifics therein. Her defense of Israel is what is currently popular; attack the people who say anything and ignore what they have said. Anyone who has criticized Israel is automatically a rabid anti-Semite who should be put down for the good of society. Her society is of course the retirement communities for Jewish lawyers in Connecticut or Rhode Island on a couple of acres of trimmed lawns; with maybe a cabin at Aspens or a condo at Malibu (or both). Sarah B and her friends speak authoritatively about what is really going on in any part of the world. They have not been there themselves but are fed information from the Foreign Ministry, AIPAC and other groups. They do not live in Israel nor do they want to leave their comfortable existence in suburbia but are themselves rabid proponents of Zionism and use their money and influence to support it. All the world is supposed to accept as fact anything they say. This is like Moshe Katsav's lawyers paying private investigators to go around discrediting witnesses for the prosecution and then defending those actions as valid tactics for a defense. Anything goes becaue the motives are pure? Machiavelli was purer in saying that the ends justify the means allowing anyone else to do as they wish and then play the part of Pontius Pilate. Their hands are then still clean.
28. Response to #8
nadya ,   CA., US   (07.13.11)
It's not your money to stop! You are just the middleman.
29. #13 - so why did Abbas vehemently deny Palestine Papers?
William ,   Israel   (07.13.11)
Because they know they would get lynched by a public that does not support peace with Israel nor concessions of any kind. Sure, the "Palestinians" can say what they want in closed-door negotiations with Israel or the US. They often say different things in Arabic to their constituents, whether they be in Ramallah or Tehran. Erekat himself admitted that the "Palestinians" will not end any aggression or incitement against Israel even if they receive all they demand at the UN. That doesn't sound like "peace partners" to me, and neither does it to Europeans who dropped their support recently.
30. Language
Adam Neira ,   Melb, Australia   (07.13.11)
It is appropriate that the Quartet was a little tongue tied. Things are balancing on a knife edge at the moment. Language is one of the highest faculties of human beings. Regarding the words "occupiers to halt their racist, expansionary policy." Well here are the facts of the matter : The First Temple was built more than 1600 years before the Golden Dome appeared on the scene; The Tanach predates the Koran by more than 2000 years; Barak has slowed down settlement expansion in Judea and Samaria. All the parties must get their worldview correct. If they can't do this then the party who best approximates the divine plan will be blessed. The correct plan must be presented now and all the parties will have to agree to sign off on it. The steps required to move things forward can be explained. A warning...The lack of vision, trust and courage at the top could lead to an explosion of violence.
