1. Nonsense
Sam weinstien ,   Usa   (07.13.11)
I support the boycott law which is no diffenent from that anti israel boycott law in the Us. The only ones that are unhappy are the anti israel left who are doing the boycotts.
2. Tell The Leftists, The Myopic, Liberals, DON'T TREAD ON ME'!
Robert Blum ,   New York USA   (07.13.11)
3. Bolster the Bill
Roy ,   USA   (07.13.11)
As usual, excellent analysis by Ms. Rothschild. in all likelihood, those most up in arms about it are those who have supported many of the anti-Israel boycotts at some point. The hypocrisy is intolerable . Give the hypocrites a mirror
4. Disingenous distortion
Leon ,   US   (07.13.11)
Rothschild's conflating BDS with the so-called anti boycott of anything Israeli law passed by the Knesset has no merit and is clearly disingenuous. Stating that an individual who voluntarily avoids contact either commercial, academic, artistic, or whatever is the same thing as Israel legally prosecuting and imposing real punisment on a person who states that he wishes to avoid interaction or contact with some Israeli entity, corporation or whatever because he feels such actions would support and further actions and situations he thinks are unethical or whatever. Arguing a volutary non-violent act of conscience is the same a the state of Israel actively punishing someone for publicly stating a personal belief. As an obviously ridiculus question that has some relevence none the less - Should a rabbi be prosecuted if he calls for people to boycott a gay bar in his neighboorhood.
5. Boycott Bill Good For Israel
Beth Goodtree ,   NYC, USA   (07.13.11)
The Boycott Bill is good for Israel because it disallows people to try to destroy the country economically. It does not stifle opinion as people are still free to express themselves in every other way except economically, which has proven to be damaging to all Israelis. Sounds to me like Israel has finally bested its detractors and all this broo-ha-ha is merely sour grapes. To all those naysayers: if you're so unhappy with Israel, why don't you leave and join your Arab/Muslim compatriots in one of their countries. Bet you'll appreciate Israel then, especially if they don't kill or jail you for being born a Jew.
6. If this is accurate description of proposed law:
leo ,   usa   (07.13.11)
"Organizations that call for boycotts will not be entitled to receive tax-deductible donations or state funding. Anyone who is the subject of a boycott will be able to sue for damages. Evidence of actual damage will not be required. " Which basically means - boycott away, but not on government (citizen's) shekel. There is only one part, which if translated correctly does not look well - "Evidence of actual damage will not be required ". I think it is wrong and evidence is a must. However, suing for "pain and suffering" should be allowed.
7. Can we still have a cottage cheese boycott??
Chaya ,   Tel Aviv   (07.13.11)
8. BDS must realize that boycotts are two way road.
Ibrahim El Awal ,   Dearborn, Michigan   (07.13.11)
BDS supporters must realize that boycotting is a bi directional road. Why is it OK for them to boycott while Israel cannot do same? It is not infringement on free speech, but free speech has to be accountable, accurate, fair, balanced, responsible and open to criticism. Free speach is not a licence to kill !!! IF BDS people think that they have rights that nobody else has, comes the anti Boycott law to tell them that this is not the case. USA has similar law since 1972.
9. Dreck. Democracy not
Stephen in New York   (07.14.11)
a suicide pact.
10. No. 5 - Agree with you 100%!!!!
Faith ,   Israel   (07.14.11)
11. #6 - the latter part of the paragraph shows bill has teeth
William ,   Israel   (07.14.11)
There is a reason the MKs added such a large window to receive damages. It is to provide teeth to the bill and a huge warning to the boycotters. Had this law requested proof of damages, any boycott damaged caused would end up for months in the court system and essentially bring more boycotts as Leftists try to gum up the court system, while realizing they wouldn't be directly affected for a long time. This cuts out that loophole that liberals love to use so much.
12. #8 - If equal rights and rule of law was goal of BDS
William ,   Israel   (07.14.11)
BDS wouldn't exist, as well as many leftist NGOs They look down from their self-impose ivory towers, believing they must lead an otherwise ignorant global population, and human rights, equality, and rule of law is not subject to them or their supporters.
13. Ashkenazim Proselytes
Anthony Clifton ,   Texas   (07.14.11)
Israel is a people NOT a Place. Despite the Zionist entity, The Ashkenazim Proselytes will NEVER be Israel, 12 TRIBES = A COMPANY OF NATIONS. Proselytes to Talmudic Judaism who are NOT ISRAELITES will NEVER BE ..."ISRAEL". PERIOD. AXE YOSELF...What did any Palestinians do to any Khazar Ashkenazim Proselytes to Talmudic Judaism in eastern europe, or "GERMANY"..? Why not make exodus back to Khazaria ?
14. #5 - Did You Even Read This Article?
Tuvia Ben David ,   Denver USA   (07.14.11)
Ms. Rothschild argues against both the boycott bill AND the boycotters themselves. She correctly points out that the bill will discourage ISRAELIS from advocating a boycott of any Israeli products (even those made in settlements). You are incorrect, however, if you think the bill will discourage the BDS movement outside of Israel. Persons abroad refusing to have any commercial contact with Israel won't be touched by the law. The bill may make people like you feel good, but it won't slow down the BDS'ers-it may embolden them. Like the author, I oppose the BDS movement, but the newly passed law is counterproductive rather than helpful for Israel.
15. #13.. Absolute nonsense - don't mix your meds with alcohol
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (07.15.11)
16. If you boycott me, I will boycott you back in "self defence"
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (07.15.11)
17. Anti-boycott law
Nir ,   Tel Aviv   (07.15.11)
Boycott is the declaration of war. For example, Israel is boycotting Iran since Iran declared war on Israel. In Germany, in the 30th, was boycott of Jewish shops after Hitler declared war on Jews. Almost all countries have anti-boycott laws: if somebody declares war on you, you must fight back if you can.
