1. Really, how many times are we going to be reminded of this
Bunga ,   Canada   (07.14.11)
Not rockets being fired into Israel, but this same repeated statement, "The military said that Israel holds Hamas responsible for the rocket fire on Israel." (End quote)
2. What happened to the vaunted Iron Dome
Rod ,   Fargo N.Dakota   (07.14.11)
3. BUNGA Hamas rules Gaza with an iron fist
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (07.14.11)
they are the govt, they ARE responsible for the consequences. The apology machine is always ready to look the other way till Israel hits BACK
4. ROD Iron dome fires when missile likely to cause harm
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE   (07.14.11)
it calculates the incoming trajectory
5. What is Barak doing about it?
Brod ,   USA   (07.14.11)
Does he sit and watch in helplessness and impotence? Other countries would have neutralized Hamastan in one day for its aggression. It is time Israel gets a new Defense Minister who can do the job of defending the country from external attacks.
6. #2; Rod, IT WORKED
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (07.14.11)
It worked fool. As has been pointed out, it only fires in response to rockets that would land in populated areas. While I know your post was sarcastic, it appears you made a fool of yourself, doesn't it?
7. mr # 6 not everyone knows how the iron dome works so be nice
(07.14.11)
8. To: Brod at No. 5
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.14.11)
The problem is that while civilians can die in the thousands in Libya or Syria, if one single civilian in Gaza were to die, people start screaming that Israel is guilty of war crimes. Were Israel really to drop the hammer on Gaza, how long do you think it would take? Ten, maybe fifteen minutes? And I'm talking conventional weapons.
9. The usual question
Ralph Haglund ,   Lund   (07.14.11)
If IDF knows about three dozen tunnels, why only take out two if two rockets come, not all of them? Barak seems to think it is some sort of a computer game with wuch rules. Occupy the Philadelphi Corrdor immediately! The Iron Dome is awfully expensive so.....
10. 1. The Canadian Press would do the same thing
Ypip ,   Canada   (07.14.11)
should such a thing occur in your neighborhood. So I find your argument entirely irrelevant.
11. to nr. 8.
justice for all ,   world/planet earth   (07.14.11)
when the zionists would act as you suggest, they surely are guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity and perhaps even guilty of genocide, if they are not already and you are accomplice. think well before you say something and before you do something. nobody is above the law. even the zionists not. no illegal zionist blockade of the gaza-strip, no misiles from the gaza-strip and gilad shalid free etc. let us give it a try. what do we have to loose in this world? perhaps we have everything to win. mazeltov.
12. Permanently retake Gaza & all our abandoned lands.
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.14.11)
Israel continues to pay and pay and pay forever for all of our lunatic retreats. It is heart breaking. We had a beautiful, thriving community in Gaza and today it is a launching pad for terrorist rockets by the tens of thousands. The exact same thing can be said for each and every Israeli retreat. Let us retake Gaza and all our abandoned lands permanently. Enough Israeli retreat lunacy!
13. What's THE PURPOSE OF BOMBING HOLES IN THE GROUND?
SABU TAGE ,   NYC AMERICA   (07.14.11)
WHY NOT SOME LARGE empty BUILDINGS WITH/out thugs/hamassians in them? Or a water tower or two...or a gas line...or an electric station? or a police station not doing it's job? why not make it VERY $$$$$ COSTLY for these constant cross border ATTACKS? MONEY TALKS arabic FLUENTLY!!
14. Sarah B #8
Brod ,   USA   (07.14.11)
Your point is noted. However, Israel should not be deterred by the venom of the dark forces-Islamist-Jihadists and AntiSemites. In fact, Israel should be strong and resolute in hitting them back in the Halls of the UN or the media by telling them to go to Hell. Silence and inaction are interpreted as weakness. It is time to use strength to reinforce Israel's DETERRENCE.
15. #2 iron dome works on middle range missiles
(07.14.11)
it doesn't protect cities that are close to the gaza border such as Sderot and the surrounding areas which are targeted by short range missiles.
16. #7; YOU HAVE A POINT, sort of....
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (07.14.11)
I guess I just get annoyed with people who hate Israel, and look for any opportunity to belittle Israel. But hey, you can't fix stupid. Combined with hate, it does, on occasion pose a danger. The sarcastic nature of that remark, and the person actually thinking...out of pure ignorance...he was being so clever, rubbed me the wrong way. But it certainly wasn't a surprise, since many people who are antisemitic, seem afflicted with the same problem as Rod.
17. To: No. 11
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.14.11)
Excuse me, but the State of Israel has every right to defend its citizens, including the use of deadly force if that is what it takes to stop the missiles from Gaza that are shattering peoples' lives in the Sderot region. How dare you suggest that protecting and defending one's citizens is a "war crime?" How would you then characterize Hamas, who are responsible for 10,000 missiles being fired into Israel? But you know what? You tipped your hand at the get-go with use of the word "Zionists." I know where you're coming from; we all do. As to your question, "what do we have to loose [sic]" -- I will tell you. In view of the fact that Hamas' charter calls for the DESTRUCTION of the State of israel and the EXTERMINATION of the Jewish people, the answer is really quite simple -- EVERYTHING. So take your smarmy, really narrow focus and anti-Semitism and SHOVE IT.
18. Barak is right on it !
Marcel ,   Florida   (07.14.11)
‘Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Thursday instructed his legal adviser to look into the possibility of using old emergency laws to curb rightist attacks on IDF soldiers.’
19. 7-oh Yah, we'll be nice.
Ypip ,   Canada   (07.14.11)
Absolutely precise even.
20. Why is Ehud Barak still the Defense Minister
Rachel ,   US   (07.14.11)
He is a useless clown if there ever was one.
21. 18-oh please...you taught he saw a puddy-cat...
Ypip ,   Canada   (07.14.11)
22. @11 Justice for All - How about justice for Israelis!

Eyal ,   USA Israel   (07.14.11)
You know what I think, Muslims are the dumbest ppl on earth. Even my pet dog is smarter than ur logic
24. #11 - She's speaking about the disparity of world condemnati
William ,   Israel   (07.14.11)
meaning - Libya is basically slaughtering their civilians, and it took weeks to even consider arresting him for trial. Syria has been slaughtering their civilians for weeks and NOTHING but empty rhetoric is coming from the world. Israel launches Cast Lead due to endless rockets and suicide bombings from Gaza, AND worked hard to deliberately avoid civilians, and they receive...immediate condemnation, NGOs rushing to write reports against Israel, the accusation of "war crimes" before any proof was received, stories about non-existent starvation in Gaza, and ships of fools to "break the blockade"... A bit lopsided don't you think, and the calls for condemnation keep coming, even though Hamas admitted to their own war crimes AND the civilian death count lie, but no one paid any attention to it. By the way, the UN deemed the Gaza Strip blockade is LEGAL! So, are you against the UN now or just choose to ignore this ruling but accept others? I think we tried giving peace to Gaza in 2005, we got rocket attacks and eventually a declaration of war against us, with the death of civilians including a child killed by an anti-tank rocket. Sorry - we're not willing to keep sacrificing OUR people for YOUR pipe dream.
25. Defense Minister right on it
Marcel ,   Florida   (07.14.11)
‘Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Thursday instructed his legal adviser to look into the possibility of using old emergency laws to curb rightist attacks on IDF soldiers.’
26. stop this tit for tat. hit them hard 10 times over from the

start.
27. to no.14
Jennie ,   Israel/US   (07.15.11)
Thank You, Brod.. Exactly the point, I can't express often enough... Israeli government must ignore the world's opinion, focus on self defense and distroy the pali terror capability. Every country in the world has the right to defend their soveregnity, especially when attacked... How long will the lives of innocent israelis, be put on the altar for the sake of appeasement or world's approval ? And the palestinians ? Time to realize, that all they want, is palestine instead of Israel, not near Israel....
28. To #1 It bears repeating...
John ,   Alaska   (07.15.11)
... because even now there are people for whom this may be their first exposure to a report on attacks from Gaza and they might be wondering what savages are responsible. It also reminds Hamas with every attack from Gaza, that we know Hamas is culpable.
29. To IDF - good job hitting the tunnels
John ,   Alaska   (07.15.11)
You are disrupting the terrorists' logistics; this is always important. Even if the terrorists' murderous attacks do not kill people, you would still be very justified in killing terrorists. They are legitimate targets. Either way, good hunting and come back safe.
30. To #8 May take longer - up to 1/2 hour
John ,   Alaska   (07.15.11)
I was thinking that with massive payloads, it should in fact be about 15 mins from wheels-up to wheels-down from the F-15 bases (I was surprised how effective the Eagle was for ground attacks). But a look at Wikipedia (so consider the source :p ), shows the bombs/missiles used by the IAF are all precision guided/JDAM equipped. At their most ruthless, the IAF would still be able to employ surgical accuracy. Of necessity this should increase the time the attack would take (I'd guesstimate doubling the time), but it means the collateral damage would still be minimal. Of course, Israel's enemies would complain no matter what, but that's damned impressive accuracy.
