31. #24 yeah wouldn't it grand if one of you knew this Lord of
who you speak? ,   looking for the day!   (07.14.11)
32. #8 - he's actually not a free man
William ,   Israel   (07.14.11)
As part of his sentencing, he was forbidden of certain acts including making money from his story and doing interviews with foreigners. After his 18 years in jail, he immediately broke the conditions of his release, so no, Vanunu is NOT a free man.
33. #22 - but he IS a criminal
William ,   Israel   (07.14.11)
Vanunu broke the conditions of his release and that makes him a criminal. Same too with criminals who are on parole and again break the law. One point brought out by recent op-ed pieces is the absolute dereliction of rule of law by BDS and their absolute, whole-sale attack on all things Israel, whether they are part of the govt or not. So it isn't surprising that you would give Vanunu a free pass, even though any person committing the same violation of release terms in any other country would have been dealt with the same or more harshly as Vanunu is by Israel. As for Yuri (whom my post was addressing), I have no idea if he is a criminal or not, and he can leave at any time.
34. revoke his citizenship
observer ,   Egypt   (07.14.11)
convicts were to build Aussies' state, not Jewish state.
35. #11 you are right Sarah no great loss one less zionist
deutronomy 28 ,   world   (07.14.11)
in this world cant hurt LOL
36. #24 being a jew doesnt mean you put israel first
deutronomy 28 ,   world   (07.14.11)
judaism is a religion and not a nationality, you could be an american jew, in that case your country is america therefore putting israel first by an american jew is treason, to make it clear to you dummy, israel is the country judaism is the religion, in israel there are jews and muslims, jewish israeli citizens and muslim israeli citizens, you see the difference? probably not LOL
37. What is he guilty of?
James ,   Seattle, WA   (07.14.11)
Your own government claims there is nothing to see at that plant. Just what did he do then? I would be happy to invite him into my house for exposing your lies.
38. He is not spy; he is a whistleblower
Leon ,   Ottawa   (07.14.11)
Vanunu never passed off nuclear secrets to a foreign government; he blew the whistle on the Israeli nuclear program. There is a difference. Either way, the world knows the danger that Israel poses with its 200+ nuclear missiles. Iran's supposed nuclear bomb pales in comparison.
39. relinquish Jewishness; because no excommunication in Judaism
observer ,   Egypt   (07.14.11)
40. Pollard is an AMERICAN prisoner and TRAITOR
Sheik rattle & roll ,   USA   (07.14.11)
Why does Israel care about an American traitor? Pollard will be released from prison when he dies. That is his sentence for committing treason against his country of birth AMERICA where he was employed by the US Government in a very sensitive position. America doesn't want VANUNU we just want to keep our prisoner safe in his cage for the rest of his life where he belongs without foreign interference. If people want to do something about an Israeli prisoner there is a guy name Gilad Shalit that needs help.
41. He can come here so we can WATCH him.
Ypip ,   Canada   (07.14.11)
to retire with his poodle. Otherwise, he should smarten up.
42. Vanunu's citizenship.
Ameridane ,   Aarhus, Denmark   (07.14.11)
If I am not mistaken, Vanunu was born in Morrocco. Let him go back there, since there is also a "Law of return" for Jewish Morroccan refugees.
43. Vanounou #29,.....#also#21
A Moroccan Jew ,   Rabat, Morocco   (07.14.11)
ToSarah, first I must thank you for your concern, however as a frequent traveller to USA, I wouldn't reserve too much of that concern to me in exclusivity, but try and answer the same querry about your particular place in Diaspora. To #21, If I were as ignorant as you, I would put myself in a corner and shut up. However, I was talking about the individual aspirant of Vanounou, as everyone of us should espose wherever she or he would like to live. That's my concern for the civil right of a person that has paid his due to a society in which he found himself unsuitable to fit in, thus his need to go somewhere else and hope for a better days.
44. to nr. 37.
justice for all ,   world/planet earth   (07.14.11)
well spoken. i think the same in this case.
45. It ain't gonna happen!
Boxer ,   USA   (07.14.11)
Not in Israel at least. You tell the truth and it automatically makes you an enemy - if it exposes the lies of the Israeli government. If the guy had said (lied) that they had no nuclear weapons, when they actually had weapons, that would have made him a national hero. Only in Israel!
46. Oh i see its ok to cry about pollard
Haim ,   TA   (07.14.11)
What hypocrites !
47. And that is how the matter stands, Sheik
Cameron ,   USA   (07.14.11)
Bloody tired of this guilty obsession Israelis have over this Pollard rat. He stays in his cage.
48. Vanunu is Moroccan
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.14.11)
He was born in Marrakesh. Can he still claim Moroccan citizenship? If yes, send him there. If they'll have him.
49. # 4 Citizenship
Golani ,   Vineland, USA/Israel   (07.14.11)
#4. I am a proud US born citizen. I chose as well to become an equally proud Israeli citizen, serving my 3 years proudly in the IDF and would not give up either treasured citizenship for anything. Also, I would never become a traitor to either of my countries.
50. #43 "society in which he found himself unsuitable to fit in"
Tahl   (07.14.11)
Yeah, I'd say. Committing treason of the worst kind, exposing his country's top military secrets in order to weaken it, expressing support for the enemy, telling the world his country is a "terrorist state", telling his fellow citizens they have no right to live there, mocking his people's faith and even boycotting his mother tongue, since he hated his people so much - yeah, the poor soul just couldn't fit in! Poor thing. I can almost feel the tears about to burst out. Good joke man. Your phrasing couldn't be more comical.
51. how to solve the vanunu problem
zionist forever   (07.14.11)
There are plenty of European countries who are just cuing up desperate to give Vanunu citizenship so the argument about him not being without citizenship if he has his Israeli citizenship revoked doesn't stand up. Right now Vanunu is a problem we have been hoping will go away if we leave him long enough but its not and we have to do something about it now. We can let him go and he will be straight onto the anti Israel international lecture circuit earning millions and telling the world even more about Israel's nuclear program. We can force him to stay in the country which is costing a fortune to do because of all the conditions of his parol and using up alot of Shin Bet time and recources and eventually he will probably find a way to escape the country anyway because he is determined to leave somehow with or without help. The only way this problem is going to go away once and for all is if Vanunu was sadly to become the victim of a tragic accident.
52. #37 - and yet your ilk support Iran's nukes
William ,   Israel   (07.14.11)
crying foul against Western nations who keep finding evidence of suspicious military nuclear activities there, because A'jad keeps saying "nothing to see here". Wonder...would you invite an Iranian opposition member with proof of Iran's illegal quest for military nukes in your house to "expose the lies"... or are you convinced there is "nothing to see here"?
53. #38 - so by your logic....
William ,   Israel   (07.14.11)
the people who should really be feared is the police because they have lots of guns...not the criminal who only has one gun. In this instance, which is analogous to the Israel vs Iran comparison, the police may have more guns but its the criminal who will use his gun to commit a crime and/or take a life. It's not "how many weapons" that someone has, it's "can they be trusted" - and so far, even when in peril, Israel is trusted to be responsible. Iran doesn't even have a weapon yet and is already threatening people with it, and a direct sponsor of global terror (including those that target Canadian troops).
54. #40 - no other spy received such a harsh sentence
William ,   Israel   (07.14.11)
and many spies, like Americans who spied for Russia during the Cold War, were released after many years or traded. Yet, Pollard sits in jail for life..for a much lesser offense. I believe this is entirely political. When the question of Pollard's pardon came up, the head of the CIA threatened to quit if he was released.
55. #45 - you really don't get out much, do you?
William ,   Israel   (07.14.11)
I believe all countries punish those who reveal national secrets and hurt national security, including the US. So cut the "only in Israel" crap. We're just like everyone else - not demons, not gods. A normal country that you attempt to hold to an unattainable level so you can demonize her.
56. #43 "society in which he found himself unsuitable to fit in"
Tahl   (07.15.11)
Yeah, I'll say. Exposing his country's most sensitive military secrets, trashing it in the newspaper in every chance he gets, supporting and sympathizing with the worst enemies, calling his country a "terrorist state", telling his fellow citizens they have no right to exist where they are, mocking his people's religion, relinquishing his mother tongue for sheer hatred of his people, and now wishing to relinquish his citizenship because he hates everything it represents. Yup, the pour soul tried his best, but just couldn't fit in... I can almost feel the tears about to burst out. Seriously man, do you realize just how ridiculous your warm words of sympathy and forgiveness toward this SOB sound? We can only imagine what your country Morocco would do with a similar traitor. And it won't be pretty sight.
57. I bet North Korea would take him! I don't know why . . .
Sargent Preston ,   U.S.A.   (07.15.11)
some of you think no other country would offer him citizenship. Maybe Cuba. Venuzuela would probably want him too.
58. to Yuri no 4
john Darren ,   cairns-Australia   (07.15.11)
Of course you already knew the answer to your post.
59. Punished and shunned: perfect.
mea   (07.15.11)
60. he should take the iranian cytizenship
dovdevan ,   ashdod,paris   (07.15.11)
