1. Walking out on their jobs & patients
Naomi   (07.20.11)
These medical staff and the current government are totally irresponsible and selfish.
2. MASSIVE indictment of socialized medicine....
Adina kutnicki, ,   Israel   (07.20.11)
demonstrating(no pun intended) that the unions are the bane of western nations. They must be disbanded and the private sector must set the pace of medical services. Competition is a good thing and allows for better care and better wages. As it stands we are held captive to UNION THUGS and holdover socialist dictates. ENOUGH!!
3. 2* Adina, are you speaking as a doctor?
Nora Tel Aviv   (07.20.11)
Do you know how a doctor`s life is ? Do you know how a female doctor`s life is ? If not, ask those working at government hospitals and try to understand them.
4. Poor patients ...
K ,   Israel   (07.20.11)
It seems to me that these doctors are endangering the lives of their patients. If they are unhappy with the terms of their employment, why can't they just do what everyone else does and look for another profession? I'm sorry, but I have no sympathy towards them ...
5. Who much does a doctor in Israel make
Jim Israeli ,   USA   (07.20.11)
I am a doctor in the usa and would like to know how much an Israeli doctor make a year?
6. try google dude ....
try google dude ,   jerusalem   (07.20.11)
but they make WAY less than you do.
7. #5 Jim
Jorge ,   Israel/USa/Argentina   (07.20.11)
Jim, in USA most of the doctors owe a home residential, a luxury car and have a good life. In Argentina, in Israel and some of the countries are simple workers. They do not ask the patient before they meet who is going to pay the visit, they just help him and then they work out the payment. Most of the doctors overthere make miracles and are avocated in the patient. In here they send the patient to do unnecessary te$$$$t$$$ so you leave the office with a payment of $400 and this is how much the real doctors make when they are lucky per month Regard from Chicago
8. kol hakavod to the doctors...
nva ,   jerusalem   (07.20.11)
for those who shamed the doctors ..shame on you ! Doctors here in Israel make next to nothing...it's insane...only those who supplement with private patients can make a living....even then, they are lucky to make the equivalent of $50,000 yr compared to the average US doctor making $300-400,000 year. Especially shame on the Israelis who condemned the doctors strike. I say kol hakavod to the doctors..it is about time.
9. Stupid, stupid, stupid...
Sarah B. ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.20.11)
Where am I supposed to do my face lifts now?
10. Jorge # 7
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (07.20.11)
It didn't used to be like that in the USA before government got involved along with insurance companies and lawyers and drove up prices. Yes, doctors do unnecessary tests but if they don't do one and miss something then they run the risk of being sued. Medicare makes them show the cost of everything and so now you get charged for every band aid, stitch or whatever. In an elderly care facility near here once a patient had a leg amputated. A government beurocrat noticed the patients weight had dropped and tried to pull the liscense of the facility claiming they were not feeding the patient enough due to his weight loss. It cost the facility money to fight the case and show the idiot government person that the weight loss came because of the loss of a leg and not diet. We have to much government, to many lawyers and out of control insurance companies. This is why medicene in the USA is so costly and outrageous.
11. as a doctor
Nick ,   Boston, MA   (07.20.11)
As a doctor, I wont work in Israel because of what they are paid. Wages relative to government and high tech are substantially different in the US and Europe. It would be different if everyone made substantially less in Israel, but doctors salaries are quite disproportionate.
12. In Medicare rich Canada we have access to Dr's
Al   (07.20.11)
if you want to call it that. When I goto a Dr (If he will take me on) I simply give him my medicare card which enables me to have a 10 min exam. Invariably he requests blood tests which he offers to take at $300.00 WHICH ARE SEND TO A PRIVATE TESTING CLINIC. He gets a cut and then he goes thru the spiel of looking discussing etc. The system is great if you are healthy, if not you are in deep doodoo. I needed 2 hernia operations and had to wait months as the Dr told me it was not an emergency. Suprise surprise . I tipped the Dr ($$$$) and I didnt have to wait so long (wink wink) Drs dont want to work for peanuts so they up and leave for the US where they can earn 300-600K without busting their gut. Most people dont even have access to a GP so they charge the Emergeny wards of the Hospitals, wherein those who really need the emergeny service are made to wait days in the hallways before being looked at. Scoialized medicine...its fantastic!
13. Item does not inform what the issues are-
Ben ,   USA   (07.20.11)
14. #2 Adina
(07.20.11)
Do you really want the private sector to "set the pace?" Do you actually even know what you are talking about? Would you really like to pay hundreds if not thousands of shekels in medical insurance and then have your kupat holim to decide whether or not they are going to treat you? Would you really like to pay for every pill they give you when you wind up in the emergency room? Would you like to buy drugs at pharmaceutical company prices? Do you want to pay hundreds if not thousands of shekels for every day in the hospital, and enormous fee to the doctor if you need an operation, an equally enormous fee to the anesthesiologist, to say nothing of time in the operating room, which is calculated in quarters of hours? Oh, and do you want to wind up living in your car, because that is exactly what will happen if Israel privatizes its medical services. And forgive me for asking, do you even know why the doctors are on strike?
15. To Number 5 Jim
David ,   London/Tel Aviv   (07.20.11)
I did all my medical and surgical training in Israel. I am a senior orthopaedic surgeon. I left Israel for England. I earned more here this afternoon than I used to earn in Israel in a month of working 3 places of work(a governemnt hospital, Kupat Holim in afternoon/Evening and Moked on weekends). Does that answer your question! I'm sure I still earn less than you do in America!
16. why docs are paid alot in the usa
(07.20.11)
they have to spend alot of money going to med school taking out lots o loans. those loans have interst rates. however the med doctors here who really want to do good and want a normal working hours go into either R &D OR GP/family practice, no after hours. but the surgeons make all the money or the ER docs. that is all. the med malpractice has been capped here so the attys dont bother to take on lots of cases unless death has occured or severe injury gross neg. in florida, forget about a med mal case vs drs, the attorys are not doing them anymore unless it is to the pharmacuetals companys coz they got the deep pockets, med mal in fl is just about out of bus. which means docs can harm people and know they are not gonna get tagged with anything too badly. that is how it is where i live. and if you think i am wrong let me know your email and i will send you all kinds of proof
17. Al / 12
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (07.20.11)
My dad was a doctor and he had some patients that came down from Canada to him to get their health needs met.
18. Doctors should receive a decent wage -
miri ,   israel   (07.20.11)
Bibi, why don't you intervene and help solve this disaster ? I am certain that a large segment of the population is suffering from this lengthy strike.
19. to Jorge at #7
miri ,   israel   (07.20.11)
Can't make head or tails of your comment - probably #5 doesn't understand you as well ! Thank goodness for socialized medicine - it truly is amazing. G-d bless the dedicated doctors and may they be given what is due them - and soon !
20. A glimpse into America's future under ObamaCare
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (07.20.11)
21. turning your back on psychiatric patients....nice
Shahar ,   Houston, Texas   (07.20.11)
Doctors deserve all of our respect.... but turning your back on a psychiatric patient in Israel....ay ay ay!!!
22. #12 is lying...
Gabriel ,   Tel Aviv   (07.20.11)
You are clearly not Canadian. No Canadian calls it a "medicare card"(You call it your health card, in Ontario you would call it your OHIP card), blood tests don't cost money, you can't tip Dr's, most people do have access to DRs, Canadian's don't all it socialized medicine, we call it universal health care, and doctors hardly make peanuts, they make 100K-300K a year which is excellent. Right wing Americans love scaring people about "socialized medicine" but the US easily has the worst health care system in the Western World. No Canadians except maybe the super wealthy would switch.
23. sue # 20, it is already like that for seniors
(07.20.11)
the er docs call them GOMERS=get out of my emerg room. medicare pays nothing so if you are a patient unless you are half dead dont expect any kind of quality care, and even then they treat you as a nusiance case. compared to 08' i was on ss admin medicare and had a kideny infection, i was given great care-then, now last week i had the same thing and not even given a pillow, a drink of water, any pains meds, AND no blood tests. doc came in and whacked my right flank back and said you got a kideny infection and walked out of the room, tried to give me meds which were not for kidenys and now i got stones. they just dont give a crap. i will not go back to that er, would not take a dead dog to thatplace and they do not even follow up with anymore feedback surveys like they used to. so us seniors are seen as ''unseen'' and not worth the bother -a drag on the system- gee thanks for the not much help florida
24. if anyone really wants to make tons of money then here
(07.20.11)
is what you do. since the insurance companies hold ALL the power in the usa go to work for them. its 9-5 mo-fri. end of story. they dicate to doc's DRG's and how much they are gonna get paid or not paid for procedures. they got the backing and the dough. trust me i know what i am talking about they are a very strong lobby in the usa
25. What about my face lift???
Sarah B. ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.20.11)
26. Did anyone actually miss them?
Steve ,   Liverpool, UK   (07.20.11)
They possibly do more harm than good to people. Perhaps if they stayed away for longer ...
27. 2
Birdi ,   Israel   (07.20.11)
Do you really understand what you are writing about ? Have you ever been to the ER of any Israeli hospital? have you seen how overworked the doctors are? Do you now how many very long hours the doctors in hospitals in Israel work? Do you know how many patients a kupat holim doctor has to take care of? Have you ever sat outside your doctor's room for over an hour waiting for your appointment? (kupat holim) I dont think you have been in Israel long enough to know the full extent of the problem here.
28. 14
Birdi ,   Israel   (07.20.11)
KUDOS.
29. #14
Gabriel ,   Tel Aviv   (07.21.11)
Absolutely. Israel takes care of all its citizen. Everyone is covered which is the way it should be. Nobody wants an American-style system where insurance companies make billions off of the suffering of the non-rich.
