1. WHEN? WHERE?
SWEDEN   (07.24.11)
"It was clear from the beginning that Israel would somehow be drawn into the general debate on these terror THEIR 100 YOUNG DEAD PEOPLE. PERIOD. THIS IS MORE ABOUT Manfred Gerstenfeld OBSESSION AND CAREER.
2. Very good analysis
Mea   (07.24.11)
Dr. Gerstenfeld brings to light specifics I was not aware of. Let's hope the Israel government has the wisdom to utilize this massacre to shed light on what Jews have gone through in Europe. Let the Norwegians feel the necessity of Israel through the lens of victimhood. Israel is in a position to gently guide the Norwegian conscience through this process of understanding. This is a golden hasbara moment and it is good the embassy lowered the flag. Now Israel should offer intelligence training for the Norwegians.
3. unusual acts
Matt ,   Hinesburg, VT USA   (07.24.11)
Is it an unusual act to lower the flag when you want to mourn?
4. Its not always about us unless we make it so!
avramele   (07.24.11)
Our collective Jewish obsession to make Jews and Israel the center of every news story borders on the pathological. (I admit I often share the tendency.) At the end of the day it seems this killers motivation was plain old extreme right wing nationalism (of which a health dose of antisemitism is always present) and and a desire to purge Norway of those not like him. My more important Jewish lesson: Better we should ask ourselves the difficult question of what it means that only weeks ago on yom yerushalayim beautiful Jewish youth marched through the streets of the old city shouting Mohammed is dead and death to leftists --- that is chilling and a cause for self reflection. Many of them revere the murderers of Grunzweig, Yigal Amir and Baruch Goldstein. Let us not say it cannot happen here in the Jewish world.
5. He hated Nazis.
Baruch ,   Marin County, CA   (07.24.11)
Read the dadgum thing he wrote for goodness sakes: The guy hated Nazis as well as Marxists. The bottom line is that there are obviously a lot of people who are waking up from years of indoctrination by the godforsaken media and the simplistic left-right political paradigm that fits conveniently into it. Sadly, many have no alternative belief with which to replace it. On the other hand, news reports first suggested a Libyan connection that was initially held by the police. Those reports were quickly snuffed out, and this guy's manifesto appeared, which by the way, is being widely misquoted. The bottom line is that how he could have evaded detection is beyond me. He bought a lot of his bomb-making materials on credit and was not paying on time. He was also using a farm to assemble the devices, the owner of which was doing time in jail for something or other. Something is very fishy about all of this.
6. excelent article, thank you Dr Gerstenfeld
Israeli guy   (07.24.11)
7. Stop hypocrysy
Anders ,   DK   (07.24.11)
Let it be clear. The Norvegian socialist ruling party is the sole European governement to have recognise the Hamas terrorist movement. We never heard their voices when Palestinians carried suicide attacks on civilian buses, or in nighthclubs in Isarel. For them it was mere "resistance" againsst "occupation"Now they get a taste of their own medecine.

cosmopolitan ,   world-municipality   (07.24.11)
although iam not a jew myself and i respect the jewish people, as i respect every people/the entire mankind, i agree with you. unfortunately this could and can happen in every country in our world/on our planet, as the horrors of war(s), caused by human acting and the natural disasters. we can (only) try to solve these problems/these issues and support eachother in a fair, honest and just way. everybody in her/his modest contribution in the hope that it leads/will lead to prosperity and benefit for all of us.
9. To #2
Eric R. ,   infidel48@comcast.ne   (07.24.11)
You are naive to think that the Norwegians will be any more sympathetic to Israel as a result of this; in their warped, Jew-hating minds, they have already linked this shoooter to Israel and turned this into a blood libel. Did you note that kids he killed were looking to boycott Israel? They were being raised to be good little anti-Semites, like all good Norwegians.
10. There is another point --
Lisa Levy ,   Jerusalem Israel   (07.24.11)
Israel offered to help Norway but Norway didn't want our help. With all of their anti-Semitism, Norway should realize that in times of crisis, Israel is right there and willing to pitch in. I hope this opens up their Israel-hating eyes, but I'm pretty sure it won't. Shame.
11. There was a policeman on the island
Norwegian Citizen ,   Oslo, Norway   (07.24.11)
"Many foreigners wonder why there were so many youngsters on the island without any security personnel around at all." - The norwegian news report today that there was a policeman dressed as civilian on the island. But the police in Norway do not carry guns (guns are locked up in the patrolcars and they need permission to draw guns from police HQ). So, if the policeman needed a gun, he would have to take the ferry to the mainland, contact his superiors and get permission to use the gun, and then return with the ferry to the island. There was also some degree of security personell, but they are not allowed to have guns either. The policeman on the island was killed by the terrorist.
12. Shooting at the synagogue in Oslo
Norwegian Citizen ,   Oslo, Norway   (07.24.11)
Good article, but there's also muslim terror acts in Norway (but the norwegians don't seem to think it's terror): Immigrant muslim from Pakistan: Arfan Bhatti fired shots with a machinegun against the synagogue in Oslo in september 2006. Bhatti, norwegian Andreas Bog Kristiansen, and turkish Ibrahim Øzbabacan were all accused of terrorism. But the norwegian court system found them not guilty in performing terrorist acts.
13. Dr. Manfred Gerstenfeld
Asher Naim ,   Jerusalem   (07.24.11)
very intelligent analysis
14. I wish all the injours speedy recovery!!

15. he acted people like the jihadist he hated!!! no simphty for
Liron ,   israel   (07.24.11)
the terrorsit!!! this man is C-R-A-Z-Y!!! Peace evrybody!!!
16. Israeli Ambassy & Jewish Community buildings
tiki ,   belgium   (07.24.11)
The ONLY buildings were security measures stand out. Maybe this Norvegian ''''activist'''' will bring some much needed 'balance back in Norway and teach FM Gahr, that a Norvegian summercamp is 'not the proper place to avocate 'Israeli boycots. One thing is sure.....the Israeli Ambassy & Jewish community center will not 'stand out anymore in Oslo.
17. Who care ?
Yossef   (07.24.11)
Every friday Assad kills tens of his courageous people who fight for their freedom. Where are you ? Where are the condolences ? Where are the big titles on the newspapers ? Where are is the compassion ? This is disgusting. WHERE ARE YOU ? My heart is bleeding for my syrian cousins.
18. He is just a psychopath
Alex ,   London   (07.24.11)
His problem was absence of similar-minded friend or fellow who would correct his mental glitches. Ideologically, what he presented in the video is far from views of monster. Obsessions, manias were crowning his conclusions and triggered his atrocious mission, - because he is sick.
19. Article and #12
Beary White ,   Norway   (07.24.11)
Yes, it is correct the norwegian government is playing card with islam (hamas), by members joining pro-hamas rallies , book writings and anti-israel bloggings by ambassadors. I guess it is a calculated risk, the islamic population in Norway is 280 times greater than the jewish ones (abouth 1200) , and thereby a great voting cattle for the socialists. (After the WWII Norway just agreed to receive the same number of jewish refugees as they sent to the gaz-chamers in Germany, under supervision by the norwegian police. ..)
20. No. 4 Avramele
NYC Girl   (07.24.11)
It's not the Jews' obsession...it's the whole damned world's obsession with Israel and Jews...witness the compulsive behavior on the part of the lunatic fringe and their flotillas. When there's so much real suffering in the Middle East and Africa, all they care about is Gaza. I wonder why?
21. #4, "It's not always about us"
Johnny ,   Stockholm Sweden   (07.25.11)
Since I am a swede and can read Swedish as well as Norwegian, I just want to inform you that the perpetrators ostensibly pro-Israel stance is already being discussed on blogs and online forums over here. Some newspapers have stated the fact that he seems to be pro-Israel.
22. # 17 Yossef where were we?
Bad assed Jew. ,   United States   (07.24.11)
unfortunately, we're in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, S. Korea. Germany, financing a war against Libya, etc. I too feel terrible re: your Syrian cousins. Better question might be, where is the Arab League? The Saudi's seem not to see the horrors all over the arab world and the arab spring ( could the Saudi's be next ? ) as they are too preoccupied with trying to force Israel and the USA into considering the peace plan that was dead and buried without being considered, except by Obama the muslim.. You see where that got him....
23. The Norweigians will go on being what they know best
Al   (07.25.11)
pie in the sky morons with an anti-semitic fetish. Give them a week and they will blame the fact that sone of their countrymen like Israel. Dumb doesnt begin to describe these morons..I guess its all that herring they must be eating. lets move on...we are spining our wheels with these dumb dumbs
24. Israeli embassy flag half way down ?
Nora Tel Aviv   (07.24.11)
What a joke. Norvegians are immune to such Jewish/sraeli advances. They prefer by far Muslim fundamentalists.
25. No wonder they had "boycott Israel"events there
אמת ,   Stockholm   (07.25.11)
many of the participants had a middle eastern background in Utøya!it was a camp for the priviliged political elite!
26. Israel Embassy flag half way down
Avi ,   NY US   (07.25.11)
Only Israel would mourn antisemites. Israel needs its head examined for not throwing out the current gov. How pathetic can you get.
27. Stopp calling him a terrorist! He's an activist!
Scott ,   USA   (07.25.11)
After all, isn't one man's terrorist another man's freedom fighter? /snark off Now that the shoe is on the other foot, Norwegians, how does it feel? Pretty bad, huh? There is something absolutely karmic about all this.
28. Norway Carnage article
Ron ,   New York, New York   (07.25.11)
Remind me not to waste time on Dr. Gerstenfeld's books. I fail to see any media drawing Israel into this besides Gerstenfeld. This was Norway's Timothy McVeigh and an unspeakable national tragedy. I am no fan of Norway's attitude toward Israel but see absolutely no point to this article. Has anyone besides Gerstenfeld seen an Israeli flag at half mast out of respect as a negative???
29. Anders #7: Thanks.
Steve   (07.25.11)
Why is the socialist ruling party of Norway so anti-Semitic?
30. A well written article for once.
