61. Guess what!
Phil ,   USA   (07.25.11)
In order to feel morally superior, Norwegians and other Europeans have created a moral equivalence between criminal violence and self defense. The result of this illogical thinking is obvious. That the terrorist was potentially dangerous was no secret. He posted his deranged thoughts of hatred and anger in a public forum. Yet, the authorities did not do anything to interfere with a free and just society. Norway is a maritime country. Yet the police could not manage to get a boat to get to the island and stop the rampage. They also did not have access to a helicopter. Is this not criminal negligence?
62. "Norwegian freedom fighter attacks camp of racists-fest"
(07.25.11)
This is the suitable non-Politically Correct (i.e. distorted) title. Let's not forget that the "innocent kids" at that camp, were/are the next generation of Norwegian Anarchist racists, calling for the destruction of the State of Israel. They call today for boycott and tomorrow for genocide. I am not so sure that I feel so sorry for any if them or their parents who are the only responsible party for educating their kids in the spirit of racism, hatred and lies.
63. Andres= natural product of Islamo-Leftist gov and media
(07.25.11)
64. We are not governments talking here
Devorah   (07.25.11)
We are people who have been jolted by terrorism. That's all. Just people. What happened in Norway is still very fresh in their minds and probably will be for some time. Children were slaughtered. Israelis know how that feels. And it's fine if we disagree. From what I have read in this and articles, there have been misunderstandings. These misunderstandings are an opportunity to clear the air and make this a more positive talkback. We may not like the government of Norway, but the right thing to do is support the people because we know what they have been through.

67. Norway Carnage and Israel
Givon ,   Jerusalem, Israek   (07.26.11)
Dr. Manfred Gerstenfeld must be commended for his understanding of the political situation in Norway and presenting the details clearly.
68. Terror is terror
Jules ,   Africa   (07.25.11)
I have read many blogs where some how Israel has been connected to this. What bothers me is how this has become a right wing bashing subject, i think the left should not not victimize the right unfairly. There is so much intolerance in the media these days. If someone disagrees they label them right wing etc and say they should not allow them to speak. Let every one speak their mind as long as they do not break the law but providing platform for one group against the other is not going to help the right or left to make humanity better. Far right and far left are all extremists who are not good for society- we need to live in a balanced or if you like compromised society where we co-exist only then will extremism be brought down. Condolences to the families that mourn their love ones.
69. what we need now is just more LOVE and
Dan Pinchas ,   Israel   (07.25.11)
not people who blame everyone for one stupied man's attack. i don't blame the kids for boycotting israel although i disagree with them. but the only why we can resolve our problems as human beings is just TALK IT OUT! no violence no boycotts... think of it.
70. Where? In Al Jazeera.
Kaisu Doerksen ,   Canada   (07.26.11)
Have you not heard of Al Jazeera and the Gilad Atzmon article?
71. from a Norwegian/Israeli
Astrid Engen ,   Bergen, Norway   (07.26.11)
I am a young Norwegian that have spent most of my two last years in Israel. I have always loved the jewish people, the country, been pro-Israel even though I'm not jewish. This is the first time I can say that I AM DEEPLY ASHAMED of you, Israel, that you are able to put the focus on YOU even in a situation like this! That you are able to focus on the so called "failures" rather than to give your love to my people. I am deeply proud of my people at the moment, both the government, the royal family and the civilization have reacted with the attitude that "love conquers hate". We have not been focusing on how we can hate and "hunt down", but how love will always be the solution instead of hate. Or crisis-teams, police and military have done an excellent job! I am proud of the real love that Norwegians show that they carry now. And I have to say that this is not something I see in Israel, neither when there are terror-attacks, nor when there is peace. And to your information I can tell that the first person that got shot on the island was a policeman that was on his way to figure out who this other "policeman" was. The terrorist had planned this for 8 years. He had fixed a false police-ID in Poland, and how he got this police-uniform is still unknown, because it's a very strict system when it comes to that. I just can't believe and I am truly disappointed that Israel are able to turn this to critique, the only country that really knows how it feels like to be under terror.. the only country that could show us real love right now by understanding how this feels. And I have to say that even though I will still have my love for Israel, this has put a mark in my relationship to you.. a lot of human beings have been killed and still, the most important to you is to find out how you, in this situation, are "the best".. We have received so much love from the other countries, so much people standing by our sides when we need it the most, no matter if we deserve it or not. Except from Israel.. This article actually made me cry.
72. # 28 is spot on
Simon ,   Oslo/TA   (07.26.11)
Gerstenfeld always makes a fool of himself when it comes to Norwegian anti-semitism. Yes, there are some naive people in Norway regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict (and surely some anti-semitism that should be dealt with). I believe this is connected to a hysterical political correctness. Anyways, when it comes to these terror attacks, mr. Breiviks actions simply does not make sense even though he seems like a smart guy. There is a lot of discussions of what his motives might have been. However, I am yet to see anyone draw Israel into this equation in a negative manner. Even Sidsel Wold, who is very biased, met Shimon Peres and she admitted that Israel is the country hardest strucken by terror. So mr. Gerstenfeld, please shut your mouth. You are only throwing fuel to the paranoia-fire among Israelis. This is a time to mourn the victims, not making political statements.
73. #51 Tahl ..an answer for you:
marc   (07.26.11)
You ask of Norwegians:''how much sympathy did Norway express for Israel when Israel was attacked''? I don't understand your point. Norway has not asked Israel for anything at all including expressions of sympathy. Norway did not ask Israel to fly its flag at half-mast. It was Israels decision to offer security aid. Norway did not ask for it or need it. So Israel is not in position to ask Norway to ''explain itself'' over this massacre anymore than is Dijibouti or Fiji. The massacre was in Norway and has absolutely nothing to do with you. This makes me feel like pulling my hair out to be honest-- I have to agree with other posts which criticise this Israeli tendency to turn every news story into a story about Israel. It happens whenever theres a disaster in the world. Read talkbacks about the Japan or New Zealand earthquakes. To put it mildly it is an unattractive characteristic of Israeli talkbackers.
74. #59
Avram ,   Israel   (07.26.11)
You're right. It's not always about Israel. But in this case it is. The Utoya camp had two days of anti-Israel speeches, including one from the foreign minister, and then someone started shooting. So there are thousands of blog articles now blaming Israel.
75. Dear Manfred
Pertn ,   Trondheim   (07.26.11)
I think, after the grave accusations you have thrown against the Norwegian public time after time, you should have the decency to shut your mouth in this situation. Again and again, true peace loving democrats like the people at Utøya have been accused of antisemitism by you and your colleagues. In this respect you are in agreement with the killer (and we all agree that he is a lunatic, dont we?). You are a part of the hate mongering. The biggest threath towards Israel's democracy is not the arabs, it is the blindness of hatred and the ability to understand that those who are not with you on the path of war, are not neccesarily against you. They may be working for peace. If condolances are accompanied by accusations of antisemitism they are worthless.
76. Anders and Steve #7 #29
Pertn ,   Trondheim   (07.26.11)
"Why is the socialist ruling party of Norway so anti-Semitic?" Their not, godammit! Reading ignorant "analyses" from nutjobs on the internet leads you down the track of stupidity that the killer has been straying.
77. Good informative article (end)

You misinterpreted my question. I asked it not in order to settle some account of who did what gestures, but to answer the insinuation made by some Norwegians (like Mollie, #35), that Israelis are not sensitive enough for this tragedy. Of course Mollie is makes a valid point with her call "have some heart", I agree with that. But she and other angry Norwegians must understand that attitudes like #24 did pop out suddenly of thin air. As we say, negative attitude begets negative attitude. When Palestinian terrorists killed hundreds of innocent Israelis, there was hardly any sympathy coming to us from Norway. Your media ignored most of these attacks, or labeled them as "resistance", and blamed Israel. This totally one-sidedness has later expressed itself in calls for boycotts and other demonization efforts against our country. And we in Israel were very much offended by all this! Non-sympathetic attitudes like the post Mollie complains about, are therefore not surprising at all, and come as a result of a long tradition of demonization and lack of sympathy from your country. And that is why I said what I did. As for the second part of your comment, you have some nerve coming to an Israeli site, and giving grades to Israeli talkbackers for reacting to stories in the world which affect us in one way or another. And if your memory fails you, in New Zealand, the authorities were blaming a dead Israeli tourist for being a Mossad agent. And in Haiti they said our doctors came to harvest organs. And today in Norway, following the killer's manifest, already all the leftists are feasting at another opportunity to lash out at the Zionists. You see marc, you got it completely backwards. As I wrote today to another talkbacker - if the whole world wouldn't have been so obsessed with demonizing Israel all the time, we wouldn't have made an issue out of such stories. For example, how many talkbackers have commented on the story about the Pentagon's investigation of US funds coming to Taliban? So far... Four.
79. #74 Don't forget....
Lisa Levy   (07.26.11)
...there were huge signs of "Boycott Israel" at this camp. Yes it is a huge tragedy. No question. I would like to know, however, why these youth were demonizing Israel at their summer retreat.
80. To Clarify: Post #58 was a response to post #51
Rothbart ,   Norway   (07.26.11)
81. @ 75
Tali Shalom ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.26.11)
Most people in Isreal truly LOVE you unconditionally!!! I know there are a lot of good people in Norway just like I hope you know there are in Israel too. this despicable act of terror isn't a matter of nationality is a matter of humanity. I send you all the LOVE and HOPE that I can and hope you'll recive it as you know that me & my friends and family only think of you and these poor kids that were killed there. Sincerly yours. Israel

83. #31 Jarl
Reuven ,   Herzlia Israel   (07.26.11)
There is no suggestion that Israel is being mentioned. However, you have lost the point of the article. I suggest you read it again, particularly as you say you support Israeli arguments.
84. Hatred is hatred
Calvin ,   USA   (07.26.11)
All around the world, we are witnessing the hate that hate produced.

87. Breivik for Nobel Price
stern cyla ,   USA Woodmere   (07.28.11)
A country, who gave Nobel Price to the terorist Yaser Arafat should give Nobel Price to Anders Breivik. A country which is undifferent to terorism, can't exect piece in their own country.
88. Two extreme rights
Kent ,   Norway   (07.28.11)
I agree on most points in the article, though the author seems not to have noticed the current division in Norway and the rest of Europe between two strands of the extreme right: The old, Jew-hating nazi-inspired one of the mentioned Tore Tvedt and the new anti-muslim paranoid version of Dutch Geert Wilders. The terrorist whose name I will not even mention belong to the latter strand, which is just as dangerous as the former. Btw. thanks for the sympathetic responses from the minority of readers here. Your humanity is Israel's only remaining hope.
89. Christian Fundamentalist???How???
JJ ,   NZ   (07.30.11)
Those who propose this, obviously have NEVER read the Holy Bible!!! Thou shalt NOT murder is the 6th commandment! The Spirit of God does not dwell with this man, because he is not repulsed by his own wicked actions! I think you mean he is a member of the Masonic Lodge which does NOT follow Jesus Christ as God but some other god who deceptively remains a secret till the 33rd degree..!!!
