1. Take the heat out of the runaway inflationary spiral
Ken   (07.29.11)
Th government needs to take the heat out of the inflationary spiral and the excess cash in the economy by caused by overpriced housing and petrol prices caused by excessive speculation.
2. Solutions
Noa ,   Tel Aviv   (07.29.11)
He wants affordable petrol, affordable housing and an affordable life by August 1st... I am all for this protest. I have a problem, however, that I don't see any of the protest organizers trying to work toward any solutions. What do they propose? It's fun to protest, block roads and make demands - but saying they'll block roads Aug 1st if their demands of an "affordable" life aren't met is a bit unrealistic.
3. Why do we have to pay V.A.T. on the petrol tax
Zev ,   Israel   (07.29.11)
A large part of the price of Petrol is a tax that the goverment charges. On top of that we pay Value Added Tax of 16%. We pay a tax on a tax. That is legal theft. Or is it legal?
4. social justice is not what you think it means
Golan ,   modiin   (07.29.11)
it means taking money earned by those who worked for it and giving it to those who did not earn it. in other words its a form of socialism (Marxism, communism ect.) These lazy Lefties are as bad as the lazy Haredim.
5. If the people don't have milk why don't they drink champagne
BillionaireBob ,   Hertzliya Pituach   (07.29.11)
I don't understand, what is the problem? Our maid buys milk on her way here every morning.
6. Social Justice: Give me your money.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (07.29.11)
Sure, let's subsidize everything. Doesn't anyone have the brains to ask where the money will come from? Well, it can only come from taxes. And, who pays the taxes? Or, we can just print money. That's a good way to go bankrupt. I can't believe how stupid this discussion is. Evidently, Israelis need some education in the economics dept. There's almost no discussion of real causes, forget real solutions. 1. The concentration of economic power in the hands of oligarchs. 2. A monstrous collection of unaccountable bureaucracies & the resultant over-regulation. 3. Sleazy politicians who pass legislation that protects the semi-monopolies. 4. Powerful public sector unions that resist all reforms & work hand in hand with monopolies & use their power to blackmail the government. 5. An unaccountable undemocratic political system characterized by a lack of transparancy, cronyism, & lobbying. What we have here is multi-party bolshevism complete with a nomenclatura & corrupt oligarchs. So, what are these fools calling for? More of the same. Real smart.
7. I agree with the protestors 100%!
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (07.29.11)
The cost of living in Israel is outrageous! Let the wealthy Jews with the trillions and billions of dollars (that they never earned legally) pick up the tab. There is no justice in the House of Israel.
8. Now we see the results of the right wing goverment
Haim ,   TA   (07.29.11)
Plenty of houses for the ultra orthdox, thanks to Eli Yishai and his bunch of merry men. Guess what Eli, people are wising up !
9. Rich / 7
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (07.29.11)
Perhaps they should all move to Toronto.
10. Liberalism is a Disease
Eli ,   Israel   (07.29.11)
This is Proof that Liberalism is a mental disease. Go to any country and you will find Liberals support Terrorists, Anarchists, Murders, and want Free hand outs, they don't want to work they want to sleep on the beach all day and get free money from hard working Tax Payers.
11. Prices are up in US too and it hurts
Ron ,   USA   (07.29.11)
and I think doctors. nurses, teachers in Israel should earn more and there needs more affordable housing, the latter cannot happen overnight-but I am starting to wonder if Obama is not somehow behind some of this to bump out Bibi. As if stopping people from working by filling streetis without offering plans and rejecting other places to live does any help. Just wondering
12. betuach chova,petrol,betuach makif ,liscence,test ,maintaina
eitan fine ,   israel   (07.29.11)
I must say that this insurence is too a rip off,one has to pay 1450 nis a year for each car, then there is the liscence,1000 nis then the test 100 nis then makif insurence 2- 4 th a year then still maintance of the vehicle plus of course petrol, where we live there are no bus internally so we need a car so the government makes it almost impossible to have one
13. revolution
darryl   (07.29.11)
let us keep the revolution alive power to the people
14.  Out of Egypt .........
Abu Ali   (07.29.11)
the Hebrews made a wrong turn! they should have gone to saudi land of the oil instead the promissed land of milk and honey.....i guess their camels had no in-dash GPS navigation systems
15. Darryle #13
JewishHeart ,   Israel   (07.29.11)
With your views, supporting all these crazy socialist demostrations, its not "power to the people", but "power to the system." I find it hilarious that most socialists don't like the "system", yet support the most system based government there is.
16. tel aviv saturday night next demo,
(07.29.11)
17. Land of Milk and Taxes...
William ,   Israel   (07.29.11)
Wait...so the protesters are demanding all of these new services on the back of the govt AND lower taxes?
18. #3 - agreed, that shouldn't be legal
William ,   Israel   (07.29.11)
Is there a clause in the Israeli Tax Code that bans double-taxation? Many Western govts have dealt with that issue in the past and without someone suing the govt to change it, it's usually ignored because it generates more revenue than it should. What we need is not protesters in the streets of TA but a consortium of consumer rights activists and lawyers to literally sue the govt to make these changes.
19. Protesters threaten to block more roads
William ,   Israel   (07.29.11)
I didn't agree when settlers from Gaza blocked roads in 2005 and I don't agree that these protesters block roads. Why inconvenience the very people you claim to represent?? It's selfish and shows an absolute lack of leadership and ideas. I support both protests - in 2005 and today's, but nothing will lose my support quicker than making ME pay rather than make the GOVT pay for the protests.
20. #7 - so all the rich are conniving thieves?
William ,   Israel   (07.29.11)
How very Socialist of you. Ever person who is upper middle class is a thief. The guys who created ICQ are millionaires. Are they thieves because they created a great messaging technology that people liked? Bill Gates is a billionaire, and he started with tons of hard work in a garage. If IBM was smart enough to go after the personal computing market, you'd never have known who Bill Gates is. If every adult in Israel gives me just $1 for a useful phone app or advice, I'd also be a millionaire. Would I then be a thief?? It pisses me off to hear people who want no more obligations than to just show up at a job or go home, lambasting those who actually create businesses and jobs. Why attack those who have a better business sense than you?? Get an MBA or shut up.
21. #8 - Please....this crap has been brewing under Leftists too
William ,   Israel   (07.29.11)
Tel Aviv didn't become expensive when Bibi entered the govt, though your ilk are certainly trying to present it that way. Israel was always expensive to live in for so many reasons, for years. When Leftists were in power they did NOTHING to alleviate these issues in Israel. All they did was move money from one group to another. No change in fiscal policy. No change in taxation. No change in consumer protectionism. Your hatred for the Orthodox is obvious and disgusting. Earlier this week a report found religious families WITH kids living in storage rooms of an underground parking lot!! That's both dangerous and illegal. Does that sound like a major win for Yishai? Your ilk want the settlements abandoned right now and Israelis moved across the Green Line. Guess where they're coming to. TEL AVIV! Want to share your housing with them or will you take the liberal equality-view and discriminate against them, treating them as sub-humans?
22. #12 - welcome to the wonderful world of car ownership
William ,   Israel   (07.29.11)
Did you think it was a one-time purchase? You know, these same costs exist everywhere else, right? In the UK, it costs $15 just to enter London each day with a car. In Massachusetts, you're charged an excise tax on your car (a luxury apparently) to help fund those schmucks that can't afford one - and their mass transit system is still $1.8 Billion in debt! Insurance? Go blame the Arabs for that one. Cross border theft by "Palestinians" are the major cost of insurance policies, with the rest being the high cost of replacement and the high rate of auto accidents in Israel. Petrol - most European and Scandinavian countries are the same or higher than Israel. If you want to see the real value in what you're paying for your car, the next time you travel to Eilat or where ever, drop your car off at the nearest parking lot and use ONLY buses and trains.
23. #14 - yeah, but don't worry - we found it now
William ,   Israel   (07.29.11)
and the best part is - it made us become a strong economy by excelling in non-petroleum industries. So when the black stuff runs out in 40 years, Arabs countries will sink like a stone and today's Arab Spring will look like a picnic compared to tomorrow's anarchy because the Arabs have no more money.
24. #6 sharp root cause and...

William ,   Israel   (07.29.11)
