31. big nonsense
ariel ,   sp brazil   (08.06.11)
32. #1 you know what? in all these 'failed' economies
(08.06.11)
it's still cheaper to live there than in israel. What's the point of a so called 'stable' economy if you can't live with dignity? btw, the myth about Israel's economy is also a lie, since the way you calculate Israel's unemployment is based on a twisted statistic,. Israel's working force is only 54% of the population, whereas in a normal western country the working force is at 60-70%. non working Haredim and arab women don't fall into the unemployment statistic in israel, so it gives the appearance of 'everything's okay' when in fact it's not.

zionist forever   (08.06.11)
Terry Its politics of envy The evil tycoons who live in luxury penthouses, have expensive cars and enough money so they will never want for anything. Then you have the average Israeli looks at the rich and says those people are immoral and evil becase they are so rich and I am so poor. They look back to what they see as a golden age when government was responsible for providing everything and there was no rich and poor. They just forget that the reason for that was everybody was poor because there were no oportunities to get rich. This welfare state that all these people are demanding nobody is thinking to deeply about how it will be paid for or how it will affect foreign investment in Israel. We live in an age when if big business can close down their plants in Israel and go relocate if they feel there is to much red tape or corporate taxes are to high in Israel. The big business is in Israel to make money not because they care for Israel's. In the 21st century Israel cannot afford a welfare state and during a global recession is certainly not the time to be starting. So far we have managed to avoid it but if we start borrowing billions to set up a welfare state we are going to be joining the rest of the world in debt.
34. Dear Mr. Lapid
Lapid ,   Tel aviv   (08.06.11)
Everyone say they are leftists not because the protest is not real. many voices and claims in the protest are true and no one is denying it. we do have a problem with the leaders and the representatives of the protest that are not represent all sectors in the protest very much like in high court of justice. That is right the initiation of the protest started with the leftists leaders in a very questionable time but, even though rightists hesitate to join because they want right wing initiators in the decision making of the protest.
35. Legitimate demands and Fiscal Responsibility
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (08.07.11)
Forget the demagoguery . There are real hard economic questions that no one seems to be asking. If the Government were able to spend freely without consequence it could then begin to meet every demand in the world. But if it wishes to avoid a kind of fiscal irresponsibility that will lead the nation as a whole into deep debt and downturn, it must have limits and priorities. Now the real question is how to address the many demands being made by the protestors. Which demands are the top priorities? Where can government spending really help? What kinds of changes in legislation are required? After all even the protestors must be aware that at some point there is conflict and competition between respective demands. Give the doctors American salaries and what will there be for the teachers? etc etc. So perhaps it is wise for there to be real dialogue, but not only between the protestors and government but within the protesting groups the various interest groups, themselves.
36. heh guys. September is coming. focus
clearer light ,   cape straight alaska   (08.07.11)
ONly in Israel where Iranian Nukes are going to be attached to missiles headed your way, could the focus of the new old irrelevant left have ever deflected more from the pressing realities. Having escaped a flottila with smart lawyers, now you cannot achieve social equality. Remeber Moses was struggling with a people who had a strange tendency to seek slavery time and time again. Stay on the streets and burn out your I Phones. There is nothing around the corner.
37. I'm jealous!
fiona ,   jerusalem   (08.07.11)
I'm seriously jealous of all the people who slammed Yair Lapid's comments!! They must have better health care, housing solutions for children and better education than my children have!! Where do they live, and how can I become one of them?
38. "Upheaval"?? In your dreams Lapid
Lapid'sAgenda ,   Jerusalem Israel   (08.07.11)
Lapid must be becoming delusional and thinks he can hijack the events to his political advantage keep dreaming Lapid
39. It's the economy, stupid...
Persian CAT   (08.08.11)
FB has neither started nor led any social movement anywhere. For example, FB has not worked in Qatar, the UAE nor S. Arabia. Why, because the social consciousness is not there. Although there's plenty of FB.
40. To Yair Lapid: Why do you ridicule and hate your country?
Mohammed Al Motassim ,   Tunis, Tunisia   (08.08.11)
Salam Aleikum. Our Al Koran comes from your Hebrew Bible. You should be proud of your country. Don't you realize that you are a Jew and therefore a member of the People of the Book? Does it matter who the protestors are as long as they care about their country? Left, Right, donkeys or camels - doesn't matter - loving your country matters. If some of these people are traitors they would not live long in Tunisia. The People of the Book should be more harsh against traitors. You talk much and yet you say very little. Many words in your article but very little meaning. Lot's of talk but no wisdom.
41. Well, aren't you gonna publish part 2?!
Orly ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.14.11)
The article reads "Saturday" but it does not specify which Saturday. If the people of yesterday was not meant to be published, well, yesterday, then "Saturday" may as well mean "some day." Seriously, where's part two?
