Dovid ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.08.11)
Why arent you out looking for a new place to live now that the Supreme Court has confirmed that you stole land? In fact, as long as you have to move, why not leave the country? We have enough of you who are destroying our country.
32. Protesters live in other countries,Stay there!!
Kevin ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (08.08.11)
Instead of staying here and joining us in protest you ran away and then say if we stay here and do the hard work and make it better for you then you might come back? No thanks, you sound kinda like the Rich fat cats we are protesting. If you all had stayed maybe we would have been able to do this long ago.
33. #26, you got it!! Kol hakavod!!
ita   (08.08.11)
It's because of an attitude like this that this country still exists!!!
34. stay there till Israel pay you a milion each
hadad ,   London U.K   (08.08.11)

35. #7, Sarah B
DENNIS ,   NJ USA   (08.08.11)
Sarah: while I generally agree with your observations on almost everything, I disagree with you here. It's not a matter of being a "lazy tuchas" I made Aliyah in 1977, full of enthusiasm, etc. for my new life. All set with a foolproof degree: accounting & finance. I found a great job as a Contolller of a great hotel, had great experiences, met my wife, etc. Typical Israeli success story. Until I bought a modest apartment with a humongous strangling mortgage, Tzamud. After 10 years of working a lot of 7 day weeks in a hotel, I was barely surviving financially. Comically, people asked me how much longer Id be staying in Israel, and I retorted: till I need to replace my car". I schnorred a lot off my parents, and HATED it. One day, I threw in the towel, and convinced my Sabra wife to return to the States. While I work hard here, Im actually catching some of the dollars that I chase. We live comfortably, not scnorrring, in fact, give every so often to our Israeli relatives. A whole different way of living, much more relaxed. I have money to do whatever I want. Literally. The Israeli experience was great for me, and I wasnt lazy at all. In fact, my wife is visiting in Israel now, just bought her mom a TV, etc. But I struggled a lot. I understand very well where these protesters are coming from. I just hope that they have ideas for solutions.
36. protest in us for israel
david mann ,   los angeles   (08.08.11)
so much complain about israel , you left because life was to hard in israel , the good thing in america , you dont even protest , you pay and you dont argue , food , rents , medical ..... are far more expensive than israel , why dont you complain over there too ...
37. 32 Well said Kevin.
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.08.11)
38. #31 Dovid, you're dreaming
Chaim ,   Migron   (08.08.11)
Give me one name of a Rabbi in our Supreme Court that said that Jews stole land from Israel. Unless you're referring to some Joe Shmoes who with power elected themselves as judges in Israel's courts. If it's not according to Torah, they can scream from today to tomorrow because their words mean absolutely nothing. It's like your nanny telling you what to do. These self-elected unauthorized people have no business sitting in any of Israel's court and certainly not giving Jews uncalled for advice.
39. Sarah
Mae White ,   Tel Aviv   (08.08.11)
Who are you talking to who are not working?! Everybody I know in Israel, myelf included work and work hard to support the high cost of living here. Unemployment in Israel is significantly lower than in the U.S. To whom exactly are you addressing your misguided admonition "to get off thier lazy asses and work?!"
40. Let them stay there!
Nechama ,   Ariel-Israel   (08.08.11)
They are in NYC, Florida, Los Angeles: just let them be there and don't tell me what to do here in Israel. Most of them left because they blamed the country instead to look at themselves. Now, the will run away from there to came back to here: situation in America is deteriorating very fast.
41. Amazing olim
Raphael ,   Netanya   (08.08.11)
As these spoilt brats complain about the hard life in Israel, clusters of Ethiopians or other Africans gather at the Sinai border, trying to suffer hese terrible life conditions, even if they are much poorer. Why don't they directly apply to the US?
42. protestors
Josef ,   Israel   (08.08.11)
or to leave or to change the system here
43. Actually, free daycare is a good idea.
Scott ,   USA   (08.08.11)
In a country where both parents work, it is unreasonable to expect a decent birthrate with childcare costs through the roof. (And just so the Heredi and Arab parasites don't abuse the system, make sure it is run by the state, and in Hebrew, only.)
44. To Sarah B.
Faith ,   Israel   (08.08.11)
As an Olah Vatika, who made Aliyah with my whole family from the USA in 1970, and as someone who has never returned to live in the USA, I resent your comment about Israelis who left, being "economic refugees". Life here is difficult on so many levels, and the economic situation has always been hard. Anyone who lives in Israel, and doesn't come here with a bundle of $ to retire or lives on investments kept abroad can testify to that. Sarah, with all due respect to your comments here that are usually pro-Israel, you have absolutely no right to judge these Israelis that have left to make a better living. Wherever did you get the ridiculous idea that these people were sponging off this country? I think you should actually live here, earn a salary in shekels, pay bills, try and keep a car, pay rent, etc. before you make assumptions. And as for you reporting these people to the immigration service - I think you can find something more useful to do with your time as a successful attorney.
45. #4;Terry, A LITTLE HELP
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (08.08.11)
I've read these TB's with great interest, trying to understand what's up. So answer some questions for me, please. How much...in dollars...would it cost for a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment for a family of four to live in? I've heard people say the banks want 30% down, but somebody else who was a recent arrival and in his 50's said he had to put down 60%. So is there is a supply and demand issue, that was caused by the governments slow process of approving permits to build? Some have said it's the fault of foreign investors, which seems hard to believe? So give me a quick rundown on the issues there, cause and effect. Plus will the bottom drop out on home prices when they build another 100,000 units? Or how many homes/apartments would Israel have to build to affect prices might be a better question?
46. They Paid Their Dues...listen to their message
Essie HaKohane ,   Florida, USA   (08.08.11)
These Israeli Emigres paid their dues. They served their country and they tried to make a go of it. People leave their homeland for two reasons: Perscution or Economic Opportunity. If a person feels there is no economic hope for their or their children's future, there is a strong possibilty of imigration. These ex-pats are saying something very mportant. Instead of name calling, listen to what they are saying. The future of of economic, healthy Israel may depend on it!

You more than welcome to revoke my Israeli citizenship.

Well said.Regarding Sarah B. - paralegal at best.:-))
49. protest and cost of living
Anna ,   St. Robert   (08.08.11)
It's pretty hard to live in a country when you don't have the money. It is not their fault. I looked at the housing cost and thought, wow, how do people do it. I'm not Jewish and I really don't have a religion since 9/11, and I am for Israel in the middle east, with the hate surrounding it. But this is not about that, it's about cost and jobs.
50. Social protest
debbie ,   israel   (08.08.11)
An extra $200 a month? LOL, are you serious? The salaries in the US are much much higher than here, and the prices are much lower, for eveything.
51. and this is why we're glad you're gone
William ,   Israel   (08.08.11)
Let's face it. When the going gets tough, the least dedicated among you will take off for fear of hard work and because of 100% focus on yourselves. Yeah, life is hard. Sitting back and demanding benefits is easy. Today we see what that has brought most of the economies based on that equation - Greece, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Italy... In 1948, there too were people like you who left Israel to the US or even post-WWII Europe. Guess what? We built the country to a strong successful Jewish homeland anyway, and we'll continue to do so because for every one of you, there are 100 of us who are willing to make change real and do the hard work...if not for us today, for our kids tomorrow.
52. Funny they're protesting in Los Angeles...
William ,   Israel   (08.08.11)
one of the top 5 US cities with the largest disparity among residents regarding wealth and basic human rights. The city can't even manage under the weight of their auto traffic.
53. #50 - Comparing prices in Israel and US
William ,   Israel   (08.08.11)
Do you ever wonder WHY there is such a price discrepency between these two nations? I have a hint for you: 7 million vs. 300 million. Here's another hint: Domestic oil / gas production vs. energy imports/ And finally, my last hint: NAFTA
54. #53 William
marc   (08.09.11)
Your defensive attitude is no more helpful than the attitude of protestors who think Communism might solve everything. Israel has very serious economic problems caused by bad economic management. Just like Greece or Spain but of a different nature. Try reading some of Terry's talkbacks and start using your head rather than your heart. Looking for excuses will solve nothing at all.
55. #51
Bill ,   NZ   (08.09.11)
in Israel retired people get $409USD a month govt pension. In NZ, which has a free healthcare system, retired people get nearly three times that much. NZ and Israel have virtually the same GDP per capita ( Israel is slightly higher) Prices in NZ are lower than Israel. NZ has 4 million population and imports its oil/gas. No huge hatural resources like Australia. NZ is not much more than a huge farm and tourist destination. Believe it...Israel is in desperate need of wide-ranging structural reforms
56. It is a security issue also
Robert ,   NY USA   (08.09.11)
If the housing costs are too high for people to buy other goods, it will ruin the economy which you need for taxes. Everyone can't work in real estate! And people leaving is less tax base for defense, also. With the condition of the western economies, not much to export if they can't afford or have credit to buy.
57. Nonsense from LA
Iranian Jew ,   LA   (08.09.11)
You guys moved to USA only becuase you thought you could make mroe money there. Social welfare, medical & etc in USA are much worst than Israel. A big majority of the people who leave Israel are tax evaders. Yes, correct! They ran away from paying it. You can make money in Israel. You just have to be quick and a little smarter.
58. good
(08.09.11)
59. Let's be candid about it
BENJABO ,   ISRAEL   (08.09.11)
They simply didn't want to perform military service or reserve duties that came afterwards It is far less dangerous to pretend they're patrioritc Israeli's from the safety of the USA
60. #55 Bill NZ - Not at all equal
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (08.09.11)
NZ sounds like Utopia, it has one thing that Israel lacks, peace and quiet, no hostility from its neighbors Israel has enemies totally surrounding it, requiring a vast expenditure of manpower & funds to keep the IDF operational That's the main difference between you and us, we don't have any extra money to spare, and safeguarding our people comes first
