this is a kind of a hypocritical appeal, one dictatorship/ one form of a dictatorship-mentality/culture condemns/judges another, made by the present us-administration, which also still takes part as a permanent member of the un-security council with the right of veto: these countries are: france, the uk,(the people"s republic of) china, russia and the us, in a form of dictatorship of/by the un-security council within the un (and outside), as the most of the countries (only still) have a membership of the un-general assembly. before the us-administration gives an appeal in this case one-sided/unilaterally, these people can better first consult the un and then try to organize a joint enterprise to end the dictatorship in syria, together with the syrian people and in equal cases in the rest of the countries, which unfortunately still have (a form of) a dictatorship, which can be considered as a crime to humanity and to the entire mankind.

After the Libyan humiliation there is no way Obama will use military action. Everybody thought that Gaddafi would resign within a couple of weeks of the NATO bombings. Its now been 5 months since the bombing started, Gaddafi is still fighting and it has cost billions of dollars. Everybody is terrified of Syria turning into another Libyan so nobody wants to get involved which is why they have been trying to help Assad stay in power as long as he makes democratic reforms and Israel gives him the Golan in the name of the peace making. Unlike with Libya the arab world is not going to order Obama to start dropping bombs on Syria because unlike Gaddafi Assad is one of their own. Assad has no allies to give him asylum and he has also seen how the Egyptians have put Mubarak in a cage on trial for his life and worries that he might be next if he resigns. If he resigns and leaves Syria he will probably be arrested and put on trial in the international courts. If he stays he is going to have a fight on his hands but he is still controls the army and political system so he is not helpless which gives him an attempt to try find a solution. Kill enough people in the hope they will submit to his wishes. Make democratic reforms and hope the people let him stay. Start a war with Israel in the hope he will come out of it as a hero and he can use that increased support to try and survive. Just standing down is a one way ticket to either criminal courts or the gallows so its not an option for him.
