1. French revolution was a big failure.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (08.11.11)
This shows the mentality of these morons. The French revolution turned to violence & bloodshed, outright murder by extremists. And, in the end, came Napolean, dictatorship & war. I wonder why they didn't pick something from the Russian revolution, it's closer to their ideology. If they had chosen a symbol of the American revolution, basically the ONLY successful revolution, & the US Constitution with it's idea of limited government, individual rights, freedom, & individual responsibility, then I'd say bravo. But that's not what they're all about, is it?
2. no 1,star of ramadan on israel fLag
rita ,   haifa   (08.11.11)
symbols are like a bowl of soup you can smell and sometimes taste but you dont know the recipe cause all you know how to make is a big mac n fries.
3. this is incitement to violence and should be condemned
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (08.11.11)
4. #3 is 100% correct. Had it been religious protesters
AB ,   TheRock   (08.11.11)
bringing such a symbol, the media would not have found it so cute. The double standards is something to protest about - that's for sure. Remember Gush Katif? They protested peacefully, but were treated like enemies of the state. It's sad but true that this is a world of lies.
5. How about a strike by minimum wage
jason white ,   afula, israel   (08.11.11)
earners? Demand that all company owners and management that steal from workers be jailed! Let them be fined to the last agora they have. Where the hell is eini and histadrut? They are a big part of the problem. They are holding us down in the slavery of debt.
6. In increments not with a bloody revolution
David M.   (08.11.11)
If the protesters were to succeed in all their demands Israel would create a welfare state that would economically ruin the country. The results would be similar to those we see currently in London. Guillotine is an excellent symbol for the democracy they seek. That of course doesn't mean that the government shouldn't try to solve legitimate problems within its abilities and in a way that wouldn't ruin the economy
7. Israel
rac   (08.11.11)
It's so shocking and awful that Israelis have erected such a cruel symbol - a tool of execution. I could hardly believe it, when I saw the online photograph of that gigantic monstrous construction looming over the crowds Please, do take it down.
8. Social justice.
Jules   (08.11.11)
The "revolution" began under the slogan of "social justice" for everybody. Now they erected a guillotine. Any further proof needed that the organizers are just Bolsheviks, originally tried to hide their true nature ?
9. That really is quite sick...
Adam ,   Golan Heights Israel   (08.11.11)
Who do they want to behead? Are they trying to come across as no different to the rest of the neighbourhood of the ME, where bloodletting is the favoured method of protest?
10. #1 Talkback Terry
Michael ,   Haifa   (08.11.11)
"French revolution was a big failure. " ....Especially for those (and their supporters) who exploited the vast majority of the populace. Paying for exploitation with one's head is a great object lesson.
11. liberty, equality, brotherhood (no.1 and others)
sweeter than honey ,   far away   (08.11.11)
a phenominal success. the motto of the french revolutionaries and still inspirational to this day (incorporated into the constitution of india in 1950). try also the declaration of the rights of man and the citizen written by and for the french revolution inspiring the french constitution, and the us bill of rights (1791) amongst many others. do you really think we are to be SO impressed by americana and all that you are on about! lol.
12. tent city - Israelis tired of reality
Steve ,   Toronto, Canada   (08.11.11)
We want to live the goodlife like in the US and Greece, not some boring struggle for future, materialistic success like they do in China..
13. Jacobins!
Cameron ,   USA   (08.11.11)
Not to worry though, citizen, the revolution will eat it's own.
14. Want to be taken seriously?
Reuven ,   Herzlia Israel   (08.11.11)
Guillotine? Is this some kind of a joke? Puts into question the sort of people involved in these demos, however much change is needed.
15. Stupid
Reuven ,   Herzlia Israel   (08.11.11)
I thought we had an intelligent middle class - apparently not.
16. Well, that's not gruesome
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.11.11)
Idiots. Go home, get a job, get a life.
17. To: No. 11
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.11.11)
Wrong. The French Revolution consumed itself, and the French were left with dictators for a long time thereafter (hello -- can you spell Napoleon?) Go back and read the history. Marat ... Robespierre .... Boy, are you ever dumb.
18. #10
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (08.11.11)
The Committee of Public Safety came under the control of Robespierre...and the Jacobins unleashed the Reign of Terror. According to archival records, at least 16,594 people died under the guillotine or otherwise after accusations of counter-revolutionary activities. A number of historians note that as many as 40,000 accused prisoners may have been summarily executed without trial or died awaiting trial. I am not surprised you view this as a success.
19. Disgusting.
me ,   here   (08.11.11)
20. To all and sundry...
Michael Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (08.11.11)
The guilliotine is NOT a symbol of the French Revolution, but of the Reign of Terror that followed. With the addition of a guilliotine at their tent city in Tel Aviv, the protestors bring into question what their intentions are. Is it their intention to threaten everyone who disagrees with them?
21. sweeter than honey @ 11, this is exactly how tens of
leo ,   usa   (08.11.11)
millions of people die - when reality is substituted for catchy slogans and mob of angry, shortsighted people is being used to attain unattainable. Hell, who can argue against "Liberté, égalité, fraternité" and who in the right mind will refuse to kill in its name. Certainly not me, the angry hungry lumpen.
22. are you the obnoxious troll no. 11
sweeter than honey ,   far away   (08.11.11)
that i was warned about. can you spell ad hominem? as you so amusingly denigrate? your gushing knee jerk irrelevant fallacies. what you have written is insane and idiotic. every reader is now dumber. i would not discard your opinions lightly, but with great force.
23. ad hominem no 17 (not 11)
sweeter than honey ,   far away   (08.11.11)
and did the college that your rich parents sent you through give you a hyper inflated account of your rhetorical ability, or rather lack of it?
24. good no. 21. good. fall in.

25. Just a Guillotine, nothing to lose your head over.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (08.11.11)
26. Looks like a implied threat to me.
Joe ,   Ohio, USA   (08.11.11)
I think you can tell a lot about where a person is coming from and how they think by the way they respond once they feel they have gained a sense of power. If these people who set this up feel they can use this symbol as a warning to those in power in effort to get what they want, I'd hate to see what they'd do once they really do get power. A legitimate social cause can and should be petitioned and the leadership needs to listen. Once threats start to be bandied about I feel the government needs to look very closely at the people and do what is necessary to protect itself. There is no place in civilized society for this kind of threat much less symbol
27. 10 Michael: You are right and #1Terry: well ...
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (08.11.11)
There is no question that this symbol of the French Revolution has no place in the Rothschild or any other demonstration! I wouldn't be surprised if it was planted by Bibi supporters in line with his policy of "scare the people" with depression or war and then use the British system of "divide and rule". As for Terry's comment, well, lately, the once respected Talkbacker Terry Eilat, seems to have become completely out of tune with the real problems of the average Israeli. I am also a capitalist and as a capitalist I believe that a country does have to have a "social" conscience and help those who are incapable of helping themselves like the elderly, the sick, the handicapped and 300,000 children below the poverty line. Of course there are those who couldn't care less if others are eating out of garbage cans while so many leech of the country, give nothing and do not even serve in the IDF so they could, if called upon, defend this country from those who wish to destroy Israel and are supported by a vicious left wing of Jews hating Jews and Israel. My view is that the biggest problem facing us all is that people, even on relatively good salaries just cannot make ends meet and are living on credit cards, bank loans and overdrafts and one day this bubble will burst and then all hell will break out.
28. Talmon on "Totalitarian Democracy"
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (08.11.11)
I have to wonder if the Israeli academy still teaches this classic work by J.L. Talmon of Hebrew University. "The Origins of Totalitarian Democracy" shows how the social ideals of the late 18th century devolved into post-French revolution terrorism. What's next, show trials in the tent camps?
29. So whose heads will roll?
Haredi Who Works ,   Dearborn, MI, USA   (08.11.11)
The nouveau aristocracy, entitled yuppies like Yair Lapid? He fancies himself the Israeli Robespierre.
30. 27#good last point david the solution is
avrom ,   bet shemesh   (08.11.11)
to write off all credit debt through quantitative easing and make credit cards illegal this will remove the burden of debt from the middle classes and enable them to live off their hard earned income ,since it will lower the value of the shekel it will be good for israeli manufacturers .the value of the shekel needs to come down as jews from war torn europe and the USA are in financial meltdown come on aliya .Incidentally if the US and UK governments write off their credit card debts and make credit cards illegal it will reboot their economies similarly the eurodebts of Greece Italy Spain and Portugal should be written off through quantitative easing and these countries thrown out of the euro this is the only solution to financial meltdown in these economies
