1. It occurs to me ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.21.11)
... that the best way to put an end to missile fire from Gaza is simply to put an end to Gaza. A little carpet bombing might be in order, and to hell with world opinion. Raze Gaza to the ground. Then, no more missiles. See? Easy.
2. Invasion
(08.21.11)
uhh 1940s britain actually did have to worry about a ground invasion. They were really, really worried about it. Still, good points.
3. shooting civilians
Beer Sheva   (08.21.11)
Arabs condemn israel for "shooting civilians" and it gets me thinking -- arent arabs are the ones who are shooting civilians? they dont care what or whom they hit, as long as they do. And there are by standing casualties from the siren as well. Israel should stop letting USA and the rest of the world dictate to it where to build its houses, and how to defend herself! For every little bomb that lads on Israel's soil , shoot the hell out of the ones who sent it, and if god for bid it hurts anyone, then double and even triple the reaction!
4. Palestinians haven't changed. They are still war criminals.
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (08.21.11)
Yet none of the people who scream and shout about alleged IDF crimes have ever demanded that Palestinian war criminals be put on trial, despite the overwhelming evidence. Shame on all of them. Shame on the Israeli members of "Breaking the Silence" who are now exposed as the 5th column of anti-Israel phonies that they are. Their group has nothing to do with "human rights", but is simply another bunch of do-goodie leftists with no vision or conscience who want to suck up to the Palestinian propaganda machine. Here are the facts from Amnesty International. It was true when it was written, it was true before then, and it remains true today: the Palestinians are guilty of war crimes. "Whether or not attacks actually result in civilian casualties, they are in violation of international law, which also prohibits attacks aimed at spreading terror among the civilian population. The patterns of attacks and statements by members and leaders of Palestinian groups also indicate that they have no qualms about launching attacks against civilians and that they in fact carry out such attacks intending to kill and injure Israeli civilians. Such attacks constitute war crimes." Amnesty International 2009
5. gazans are the ones with the v1/v2-like-equipment ?
eporue ,   europe   (08.21.11)
...and israelis those, running into underground to seek shelter ? could it be, you have mixed up the facts a little ?
6. Palestinians told me this
Sean Green ,   Pasadena, USA   (08.21.11)
All Israelis must serve in the military even women, therefor all are soldiers and therefor legitimate targets. I asked "even children who have not yet served?" He did not answer me. I think more than just him might view you that way.
7. Gimmie a break
Leon ,   Algonquin Land   (08.21.11)
Israel has more f-16s, Apache helicopter gunships and modern tanks than any country in NATO; except the US. Hamas and other resistance groups have homemade rockets and RPGs that would bounce off anything with armour. A more accurate comparison would be the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, but that would be to politically incorrect because Israel is always supposed to be the victim.
8. Who cares about world opinion?
Rachel ,   US   (08.21.11)
The UN refuses to condemn terror against Israelis so why worry about the world's feelings.
9. #8: stop your lies.
eporue ,   europe   (08.21.11)
10. #7 - Leon
Michael Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (08.21.11)
You already have a break--it's in your logic circuits. Your comparison is obscene. Show me the gas chambers and crematoria waiting for the Palestinians. The Warsaw Uprising was the last desperate gamble of people who were slated to be killed anyway, whether they rose up or not. Palestinians are under no such threat. Assuming you're correct about the "home-made rockets and RPGs" (which you're not--there are Grad and Katyusha missiles in Gaza, as well as armor-piercing rockets such as the one used on a school bus a few weeks ago), I'd like to see your reaction to one of these "home-made rockets" landing in YOUR back yard.
11. Brave and accurate article
Dina   (08.21.11)
12. To Mr's Sarah B (and others)
Luiz F Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (08.21.11)
Dear Mr's Sarah B. At first, I affirm, again, full solidarity with Israel and all Jewish people. Your State is under attack and she must react strongly. The right of defense is sacred. Here in Brazil, we, friends, are doing the possible to help Israelian image against the lies. But I ask you, only, to respond not through "eye to eye, tooth to tooth". The greatness of Israel does not allow it, although I understand your revolt. Your enemies will not prevail. I salute you warmly.
13. Want Peace? Quit Playing by the world's insane rules
Greycoat ,   Tampa, FL   (08.21.11)
The time to fight with both hands behind your backs are over. The leaderships needs to stop being a bunch of old women worried about what the world will think and be men standing up for their people. Genocide Gaza, but please spare and LIBERATE the few Christians that are in the wicked hell hole called Gaza. Take back that which was yours all along, i.e. Judea and Samaria, which the world's propagandists call the "West Bank". These Arabs in Gaza danced when the towers fell. They all deserve swift justice, i.e. the sword.
14. LOL, funny comparison!
Salma ,   Palestine   (08.21.11)
whatever you try, nothing can justify "Israeli" aggression in Gaza, the West Bank and neighboring countries. the article is just poorly-written and logically-flawed, nothing else.
15. Michael, Israel
Gábor Fränkl   (08.21.11)
You won't change the (lunatic) minds of deluded antisemites like Leon and europe. Sad. tragic, but true. Therefore, we have to defend all of us Israelis and supporters. Am Yisrael Chai!
16. JESUSALEN
JESUSALEN ,   JESUSALEN   (08.21.11)
HOLY MOUNT ZION,THE LORD LAYS IN MOUNT ZION,FOREVER AND EVER,AMEN
17. Mr. Meotti is right again
Martin ,   USA   (08.21.11)
What will a Palestinian state look like? A failed terrorist state that will get world support while Israel is the victim being persecuted. To the leftists I say that is pure anti Israel anti semitism if you beleive in the truth.
18. Rubbish!
World Citizen ,   the world   (08.21.11)
If the Ynuts in here believe what this writer is spewing they are idiots. Comparing the Israeli situation to the London blitz is ridiculous. This article is a perfect example of the Israeli media's propensity for hyperbole and outright lies. You people have been lying for so long can't tell the difference between reality and fantasy. Get real.
19. Obscene comparison
Philos ,   Herzliya   (08.21.11)
50,000 Londoners died in those 57-days and over 250,000 civilians were killed throughout the war by German bombers. My grandmother lost her sister and an eye from one in Liverpool. This is really disgraceful article. I'll tell you what the difference is Mr Meotti; so far the rockets from Gaza have killed less than 20 people in 8-years so give us all a break from this whining hyperbole!
20. Battle of Britiain - 23000 civilians dead
Mark ,   UK   (08.21.11)
While the recent attacks on southern Israel are deplorable, surely the article itself says it all - no way you can compare it with the Battle of Britain where 23000 civilians died, and many brave airmen. Germany was preparing for a ground invasion of the UK (Operation Sealion) and to say "the West stood behind Britain" must either be a joke or this writer is even more stupid than I thought reading his previous articles: the European "west" was by then under the Nazi jackboot while the US refused to enter the war until much later - I guess the writer has never heard of Pearl Harbor. Yes, Britain did have an empire at the time and soldiers from across the empire did indeed help. But this article is just rubbish.
21. Actually, a good comparison -- in fact, you found no flaw
Serge ,   Montreal, Canada   (08.21.11)
Your criticism consists of a bunch of name-calling -- you identified not a single flaw in the comparison. I wonder why?
22. What a joke!
Andre ,   USA   (08.21.11)
Comparing the bombs that devastated London with the firecracker falling in Israel? What a joke!
23. London Blitz!
Nilus ,   Schweiz   (08.21.11)
24. London Blitz?
Nilus ,   Schweiz   (08.21.11)
One more y-net-article that can only be understood by people was thoroughly brainwashed as Israelis and Americans are...
25. Gábor Fränkl
Amy Chai ,   Rishon LZ   (08.21.11)
"All of us Israelis"? Strange statement from an Hungarian Jew with no Israeli experience ...
26. This is
Amy Chai ,   Rishon   (08.21.11)
is just perverse, Giulio. On the same line of defense and attack as most of the other chosen and paid by the piece foreign "journalists" used as propaganda bats :-)
27. Bibi and Meotti
Hanita   (08.21.11)
Netanyahu used Meotti's comparison at the UN
28. #19
Rachel   (08.21.11)
The only reason why there have not been many more civilian casualties in Israel is because Israelis usually have enough time to run to bomb shelters before rockets and missles hit cities, and besides the terrorist groups would love nothing more than to kill hundreds if not thousands of Israelis. In fact, they would love to kill all Israelis they have said so themselves many times, and continue to say so,their really no different in their hateful additudes towards the Jews than the Nazis were, so while Mr. Geottis comparision maybe exaggerated, I would hardly call it obscene. By the way,I am sorry about your grandmother.
29. Salma will laugh all the way to her war crimes trial
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (08.21.11)
Just like the Nazis, the Palestinians are committing war crimes with the indiscriminate bombing of innocent civilians. The big difference is that the Palestinians have so far failed at their quest to kill as many "zionists" as possible and create a Jew-free "Palestine". Eventually the Palestinian leadership will be put on trial, found guilty, and sent to jail. The facts are there. It's just a weak and spineless EU that prevents justice from being done: "Whether or not attacks actually result in civilian casualties, they are in violation of international law, which also prohibits attacks aimed at spreading terror among the civilian population. The patterns of attacks and statements by members and leaders of Palestinian groups also indicate that they have no qualms about launching attacks against civilians and that they in fact carry out such attacks intending to kill and injure Israeli civilians. Such attacks constitute war crimes." Amnesty International July 2, 2009
30. Insane comparison
Gabriel ,   Tel Aviv   (08.21.11)
The people in the south are suffering, nobody should deny that, but The Blitz killed something like 40, 000 people.
