Linichka ,   Gdynia, Poland   (08.22.11)
I'd love to see your reaction if one of the Gazan savages' so-called "firecrackers" struck anywhere near you. Your drycleaners could tell us! Sitting on your ass safely in the U.S., easy to sneer at Israelis under siege.
32. Netanyahu and London
Dr. Frankel   (08.21.11)
If Meotti's comparison is wrong, also Netanyahu's speech at UN was wrong since he used the same example. So Meotti is right
33. Casualties
Lazarus ,   USA   (08.22.11)
My goodness how we like to delude ourselves. The numbers I read are that Israel kills about 100 Palestinians for every one Israeli killed by whatever means. I have no doubt that some Israeli children are traumatized but NGO reports are that Palestinian children, particularly those in Gaza, are in much worse condition, physically and mentally, because of Israel's daily terrors. You kicked people out of their homes, stole their farms and orchards, and keep them under draconian military rule. What do you expect them to do?
34. London- South israel
Ameridane ,   Aarhus, Denmark   (08.22.11)
OK- but where are the air raid shelters? Funds most likely spent on Ultra-Religious populace ( Kosher light train in Jerusalem) and settlements.
35. Blitz
Dajjal ,   Michigan, USA   (08.22.11)
My full response is in a brief blog post entitled: "If Bibi had Balls". You can find it in the World Opinion: Politics section at Bloggersbase.com.
36. more like Hiroshima surely?
plod   (08.22.11)
the Blitz only left 2 million people homeless....surely the rockets in Israel are more comparable to Hiroshima?
37. Visitors
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (08.22.11)
I see we have a lot visitors here that sneer at the comparison. I'll bet that not one of them was in London 1940, nor have they ever served their country, nor have they a clue what it is like to place their own lives ahead of their civilians. The comparison is most apt. Just because we are smarter and better prepared than the British doesn't mean that this is not serious. The time has come to conclude that the experiment that has allowed these savages to rule over some of our territory in hopes that they will ever grow up and act like adults needs to end. I do not that their existence needs to be continued.
38. To: No. 6
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.22.11)
Well, Sean, this woman -- who did serve in the IDF -- thinks you are a meaningless sack of sh*t. Shut up. You do not even want to know how I view you.
39. To: No. 7
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.22.11)
Has it occurred to your severely retarded brain that if the Arabs would leave us alone, we would leave them alone? Can you process that much? Do not forget -- do not EVER forget -- that Israel is a nuclear power. We can drop the hammer on the human excrement that comprises our neighbors pretty much whenever. For that matter -- we can drop the hammer on you, too, so tread a little around us and walk very softly. Just like Algonquins do. We are not playing. Neither are we prepared to march passively into gas chambers again, so please do keep in mind that we do not really care how many of you we may someday need to take with us. We are not going alone; that is for damned sure. Got it? No more Jewish victims. Ever. Memorize that, and make it your new mantra.
40. @Salma
Clayton ,   canada   (08.22.11)
Israel engages in no aggression in Gaza nor the West Bank, nor Syria nor Lebanon; Israel ONLY ever responds to Islamic jihad attacks and provocations. Israel pulled out of Gaza 5 years ago, and the thanks they got was thousands of rockets. The Jews want peace; the Muslims want genocide. Those are the facts.
41. #37 ohh pleeease
plod   (08.22.11)
in 1940 Britain faced an onslaught from the mightiest and most advanced airforce in the world. It left 2 million homeless and 43,000 fead civilians. Israel is facing a few ignorant ragheads who can be vaporised any time Israel feels the urge. LOL LOL LOL Meottis comparison is laughable.
42. German V-2 missile is like a Grad ?
(08.22.11)
If the Pals targeted Israel with anything remotely similar to a German V-2 rocket the Israeli govt would vaporise Gaza the same day. Meotti, I think you must be joking with this silly silly silly article...
43. gaza withdrawal
gena ,   usa   (08.22.11)
Israel withdrew from Gaza, there no Jews there, (Nazi's dream come true), So what Israel got in exchange? rockets!, Now Arabs living in Palestine will make noise in UN asking for state. Well, all Israel will get from this state is not a piece, but even more rockets. What a Joke.
44. Palestinian children
gena ,   usa   (08.22.11)
Israel pulled out from Gaza, So why Arabs children in Gaza traumatized? Maybe because their fathers launch rockets from their backyards and when Israel retaliates, Arabs can show their poor children, they use as a human shield, to the world, and blame Israel for their condition?
45. To: No. 22
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.22.11)
Perhaps, then, assuming you have an ounce of empathy -- not yet in evidence, by the way -- you might care to research into the cases of post-traumatic stress disorder in Israel. There are children who live in bomb shelters. They are highly traumatized. Or, since they are Jews, does that not matter? You are a complete imbecile. Somehow, I suspect that I am not the first to inform you of this fact. Would you mind terribly standing under one of these so-called "firecrackers" as it falls on your head? Firecracker, huh? Maybe not so much. But I await your volunteering before I pass complete judgment on you.
46. #19
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (08.22.11)
23 dead civilians plus more than half of Sderot children suffering from PTSD. You remember the war games Home Front Command did a few months ago? Do you know how many dead Israeli civilians they expect in the next war from the combined rocket attack by Hamas and Hezbolla? If you did, you would retract your letter.
47. To Sarah, #38
Tahl   (08.22.11)
I believe you misconstrued Sean here. It appears he did not mean any ill will toward Israel, but rather, tried to underscore the absurdity and psychosis of the Palestinian hatred toward all Israelis.
48. Obama Defeated
Mark ben Josuf ,   USA   (08.22.11)
Netanyahu already defeated Obama. Israel has carte blanche. The UN veto is assured. There has not been even a peep out of DC or Hillary for caution. The decision of what to do is entirely Israeli.
49. AND WHAT WAS BRITAINS ANSWER TO
meghan ,   israel   (08.22.11)
THE NAZI BLITZ !!!!!!!!!!! anyone care to answer? G-d bless the IDF and sympathies to those who have suffered loss and speedy recovery to those wounded in hospital
50. Dresden 1945, Gaza 2011
Yerushalmi ,   Jerusalem   (08.22.11)
That is the logical conclusion.
51. Giulio - you are a master purveyor of hyperbole.
seadog1946 ,   Arthur Kill, NJ   (08.22.11)
You are either deceitful or geographicaly challenged... true, Britain did not have to face a ground invasion but it did have to face a potential cross channel invasion which would have led to a house-to-house war... refer to "Operation Sea Lion".
52. Gaza
marty ,   toronto canada   (08.22.11)
Perhaps the most logical thing to do for the moment is to cut off fuel and electricity to Gaza. I assume that for "safety reasons" Israeli workers would not be permitted to make repairs to electrical wiring taking power from Israel into Gaza when the infrastructure mysteriously fails. Same thing for fuel shipments - Israeli drivers should strike and say that they fear for their safety i.e. that they might get hit by rocketfire. With all of the killing in the rest of the Arab world getting the news coverage - scenes of Hamas politbureau meetings by candle light won't even make the nightly news.
53. The difference
jackie ,   Florida   (08.22.11)
Although the analogy is a good one, the writer ignores what is a better one: the Jews being herded into camps for slaughter. The aim of the rockets and that of the roundup was the same to kill Jews. Since the world regards Jewish blood has worthless, there was no outcry then, and there is no outcry now.
54. europe europe no 9 check out who lies
alexa ,   Israel   (08.22.11)
no 8 is not lying . the un refused to condem the attack. The lebaneas who are member in the security council of the un prevented on saturday a ondemnation of the terror act in southern Israel.
55. intellectual honesty
Ami ,   TLV   (08.22.11)
This journalist has more than all our selfbashing writers
56. plod #41 where you serve?
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (08.22.11)
Ever been under fire? Ever have enough guts to place other people's lives before your own? I thought not - until you have the slightest clue about it shut the fuck up - you don't know what it's like to be under a rocket attack.
57. 1940,ISRAEL 2011. SARAH 39
ELSIE. ,   GUSH HALAV   (08.22.11)
Sarah Sarah, calm down, you think you are frightering anybody with this grand speech ,well you are not, because to throw a nuclear bomb into Gaza, would at the same time kill many Israeli, help to solve the problem, not inflame it,
58. To: Tahl at No. 47
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.22.11)
Went back and read Sean's post. I stand by my comment, dear.
59. To: No. 48
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.22.11)
Yet, Israel's restraint is entirely admirable. Name one other country that would act similarly. Just one. But you are correct -- the decision of what to do is entirely Israeli. As I said, our restraint is remarkable. We are, after all, Jews. But don't push your luck.
60. To: Yerushalmi at No. 50
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.22.11)
Yup. Agreed. That's what it took to put an end to it all, right? Time to stop worrying about civilian losses.
