Regardless of what one thinks of them, I think Hamas understands Israel better than most. I remember when Israel violated one ceasefire after the next during it's invasion of Lebanon. And the event leading to cast lead proved Israel had no intention of extending the period of calm in the south. Why should Hamas honor any agreement with this Israeli government when history has shown that they simply can't be trusted?

at first let us agree about a definition/a meaning of terror/terrorism for the entire people of humanity/mankind. one killed or wounded person, no matter from what party/side in this conflict/crisis/war etc. is one person too many. this conflict, which already began in the 19th. century lasts much too long. humanity/mankind has a job/the duty to solve this conflict for an entire peace-agreement in justice and prosperity in the western-asian world-region etc. let us hope and try to achieve that peace will come/comes as soon as possible. In both of your examples, you failed to look at the situations from the onset. In each of your examples, Israel was receiving daily rocket and mortar shells fired at its civilian population. After repeated attempts to use its airforce to deliver strategic strikes against these groups, as a deterrent in addition to trying to have the terrorist stop the daily attacks politically. Lets put things into perspective, lets say a group decides the land that you live on in NY is theirs and they want it , so they decide the best coarse of action is to attack your city with rocket and mortars, firing at your community, without concern if it is just civilian targets they are Shooting at. How long would it take you to finally decide you had enough and went in and kicked their asses to protect the ones you love and know in your city and country? Would you stop when they called for a ceasefire when they want one, knowing they will just take the Time to regroup and rearm, So they can attack you again. No, you keep at them until you know you have them running. So why would you expect anything different from Israel?
