1. National honour is important
Meir ,   Bet Shemesh   (08.23.11)
If we respect ourselves, then others will respect us. Especially in the Middle East, in Arab culture, national honour is very important, if we apologise, then we lose all respect, and they will just humiliate us. How about the Egyptians apologising to us, for allowing the terrorists to come from Egypt and attack the bus, and under the noses of the Egyptian soldiers stationed there? Why did they no tngage them, and try to stop them ding their terrible deed? National honour indeed!
2. "We want to live " ?
Trumpeldor   (08.23.11)
You will never stop fighting for that purpose . The area you live is not benelux .... Stop folding then and hold your ground ...
3. I want to live in the USA then!
Sarah B. ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.23.11)
4. Haber's usual hogwash
Tahl   (08.23.11)
There are several reasons why this op-ed should not be taken seriously. First, Israel already expressed its sorrow for the accident. But an outright apology would mean taking the entire blame on us, on an incident which was not fully investigated yet. As it appears, the IDF was NOT entirely to blame here - how come the Egyptian troops let the terrorists fire from such a nearby position, without doing anything to stop them? If the investigation finds fault on both sides, then a one-sided apology would only strengthen our pathetic beaten-wife status. Also, I wonder if Mr. Haber is aware that Israel NEVER got an apology from Egypt, for the slaughter of seven Israelis by an Egyptian soldier, 25 years ago. Actually, this soldier (who committed suicide, after coming to his senses and realizing the monstrosity of his crime) was martyrized by the masses in Egypt! And how about an apology for letting Israeli terror victims bleed to death in Taba, because the Egyptian authorities took their sweet time opening the border? And there are countless other examples of Egypt bullying and tormenting us. You see, Mr. Haber, a normal relationship between two countries - just like two people - is not a one-way-street. Apologies must come BOTH ways. From a military aspect, such a one-sided apology would be disastrous too, as it would set a precedent that Egyptian soldiers are not responsible for stopping terrorists. This would encourage the terrorists to fire at Israel from positions right next to Egyptian soldiers, and the IDF would not be able to retaliate. But worst of all, is Haber's demagogic line of reasoning, that if we don't apologize, we would go to war, lose thousands of people, and our way of life would deteriorate. Personally, I have never heard of a country that broke all relations with another country, and went to war with it, just because it didn't hear an apology. Haber falsely assumes that Egypt has nothing to lose by breaking the peace with us. Egypt's cards are empty, yet people like Haber still keep falling for their bluff.
5. Let's apologize if we are at fault
Ilan ,   Ariel   (08.23.11)
First investigate and if we are indeed guilty apologize and compensate. But if any of the Egyptians killed were firing on Israelis then no apology is warranted. Apologizing for no cause is simply saying that even our apologies are insincere and worthless.
6. I can't comment, I'm laughing too hard.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (08.23.11)
Mr Haber is telling bad jokes again. If he was in vaudeville, the rotten tomatos & eggs would be flying & they would use the hook to pull him off the stage. Haber just can't admit that most of his career is based on mistakes. Ceding the Sinai was a mistake, a blunder. The whole edifice of our past foreign policy is crumbling. Anyone with any common sense can see it. But Haber doesn't care about reality. All he cares about is self-justification, of not being blamed for being wrong all these years. So, he'll keep singing the same song, but no one is listening anymore. I'd respect him more if he just said he was wrong.
7. Apologise? Yet again?
Linichka ,   Gdynia, Poland   (08.23.11)
I thought Ehud "Porky Pig" Barak and that silly old man, Peres, had already groveled to our primitive Southern neighbors. Enough already.
8. It is time to recover relations with Egypt
melissa ,   istanbul   (08.23.11)
There was no law prohibiting organ trafficking in Israel. Israel Kills Palestinian Boys, Steals Organs For Transplants There is a dirty Israeli trade in Palestinian body parts .Please say no to this and urge your goverment to stop it.
9. Haber, in the end Israel will have neither Peace nor honor
Marco ,   Spain   (08.23.11)
Your appeasement of childish Arabs will result in Israel being humiliated by them and therefore Arabs will see no need to keep the Peace with a disrespected neighbor.
10. Ridiculous ! Just to Gee readers up ?
Roland Seener ,   London England   (08.23.11)
11. Please not once again!
Raphael ,   Netanya   (08.23.11)
It was a major communication mistake to apologize for the "death" of Mohammed al Durah prior to any investigation, which would have proven it was a Pallywood gross tricky snuff movie. So please do not apologize before knowing whether the egyptian cops were not involved in the attack.
12. Crap on toast
Sharona ,   jerusalem ISRAEL   (08.23.11)
This article is the biggest piece of crap I have in a long time. It is EGYPT who should apologize to us. There is no peace with Egypt and except for a short time there never was. Absence of war is not peace. As someone who grew up on the US-Canada border I KNOW what peace is. And we don't have it with Egypt. The treaty with Egypt is dead. Some people just don't know it yet.
13. very smart article written in "common sense" style.
Marie-Nicole N.   (08.23.11)
well-explained in a rational cold fashion.everyone, put your emotions away and think in a business-like fashion--what brings more gain? And it is a different situation with turkey, where apology should not take place. but thats another story entirely.
14. national honour
anton ,   istanbul turkey   (08.23.11)
shouldnt be mixed with arrogance just like in last paragraph of author's article quote"We are not at fault, apparently. We are never at fault" and whats with apology? now choosen people shouldnt apologize to normal people right? and what kinda national honour is that? does it change depending on the situation? apperantly you are not at fault so why shamelessly apologize to egyptians? do you even know what honour means? seems at some point humans are able to overcome the state of delusion yet its not so easy to accept that, just like authors last paragraph :)
15. Yes, apologize to Egypt
Lazerbenabba ,   London   (08.23.11)
Haber is over egging a situation/mishap that frequently occurs when military action takes place; hence the friendly fire and collateral civilian casualties that occur in all conflicts. An expression of deep regret by Israel has already been provided but of course the natural hatred by the general ignorant Egyptian population for anything Jewish, precludes any sane response. A war does not start as appears to be suggested by the author, if Israel does not put sack cloth and ashes on every time their enemies take umbrage at Israeli self defence actions; a prime case in point is Turkey and the so called peace convoys. To ignore these chest beating fanatics and haters of anything Jewish is sufficient for even a pragmatic Israeli government to ignore them and continue to progress while the rest of the Arab world sink further into the mire of self pity and intolerance.
16. apologies
tiki ,   belgium   (08.23.11)
Eitan Haber should 'apology for being allowed the opportunity of giving us a headache by writing his NON STOP nonsens. Ynet should apologies to 'him by allowing him to expose his stupidity to the world. What a loser.
17. No peace without honor!
Igor ,   Germany   (08.23.11)
The very reason why the peace agreement was signed is that Israel defended its national honor (and, of course, its very existence) by beating the Arabs each time they attacked. If the peace is to continue, Israel must keep defending its honor!
18. Apology
michaelpielet ,   boca raton, Israel   (08.23.11)
In the short term Mr. haber may prove to be correct. However In the long term we are still going to war with iran and its proxies. Speakng of apologies, when is Mr. Haber apologizing for Oslo.
19. #8 confusion
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (08.23.11)
You are confusing a fantasy film with reality. The only documented case of murder for stealing organs is by the Kosovar Leader, the Muslim Hashim Thaci who murdered Christians for their organs. Not that I am blaming you, but Thaci sold the organs to Turkish doctors who transplanted them in Turkish and Saudi hospitals. Look up "the yellow house".
20. Really, Melissa #8?
R ,   Israel   (08.23.11)
I thought it was the Turks who were trafficking in the organs of the Kurds. Wherever there is hatred there will be ugly rumors. You need to educate yourself.
21. On Apologizing to Egypt
Winston Churchill   (08.23.11)
“If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.”
22. Without honor you have no Israel
Bad assed Jew. ,   United States   (08.23.11)
apologize, for what? Once you make an apology to Egypt, then there's Turkey and the pals, and the rest. With respect to this writer I say, bullshit. No honor, no life.
23. #8 Melissa
Lazerbenabba ,   London England   (08.23.11)
Melissa please see my response to Haber's article #15 because you are a prime case in point where logic, common sense are suspended and the belief in all the nonsense spouted by the Arab media is believed as gospel by the ignorant of which you are an example.
24. Offer regrets and condolances for all involved...
Neil ,   Bristol, England   (08.23.11)
Its a sad event for humanity as a whole. Just as what happened in Norway. Lets gather the facts, and whoever fired first has all the blood of all the victims on their hands for their provocative actions. The moment violence is unleashed, the results are unpredictable and unfair to many - servicemen and people on all sides die on duty, by enemy fire, friendly fire, accident, terrorism, public assault, you name it.... it happens.... get used to it. Leave the blame with the perpetrators of the original crime against humanity and betrayal of their own souls for instigating the incident, and suspend any other judgement in the absence of a full report of the facts, which has yet to be understood or published. Surely there is plenty of national and human honour in that. It is possible to regret the death of your enemy as a result of his own misguided actions, as well as your own casualties. Read some Zen and become one with the mindset of your enemy, and you will have no enemies, but that does not mean you should not defend yourself in times of danger, but you are free of the emotional bondage your enemy wants to put you in and actions do come back on people sooner or later, so stay focussed on your own conduct, and pray for your enemy's release from his own ignorance before something happens to him. I see no loss of honour in regretting any of the deaths if you have the right mentality.
25. I really respected that article
Amir ,   Ajman, UAE   (08.23.11)
First of all, i am Egyptian, and believe me, Every One in Egypt Does not like Israel , even the rocks does not like Israel, Do you know what is the difference between us and you ? Our Desire/Goal in this life is to die for Allah, We consider it as the highest glory that anyone can have.On the other Hand you love to live. Believe me again, We collected millions in Each Squire in Egypt to drop Mubarak, And we can collect doubles of those numbers of people ( considering that the people who does not share in the revolution, Considering also that all the Arab countries will share) Just if the war raise, i am one of the people who are outside Egypt and i will return once the war raise, I swear in Allah, I will be more than happy if i die for Allah. Honestly, We have to mention that we know that Israel Has good army. On the other side, you killed Egyptian Soldiers at the borders for no reason, And each time the Answer is ( BY FAULT ), This answer was accepted at Mubarak period, but now the people are saying there word. For those who are saying that we allowed the Israelis Bus attacker to pass the borders to do that, The borders issue is a long period Problem and regarding to camp David the allowed Egyptian army in Sinai is 750 Soldiers, Which means one solider for each 1 KM, Is it logic ? Finally I would like to say that I really respected that article, and any one fault shall Apologize, and Apologizing does not decrease anything from his respect. Regards,
26. Remember these words!
Alf Red ,   Londonistan   (08.23.11)
Was it Churchill who'd coined it, or did he only repeat it: "Those who chose infamy to escape war - will get both, the infamy AND the war!" It would be good to remember these wise words, instead of behaving like an yidlik-jester at court of so called "world opinion"!
27. Heckuva job there Haber!
GideonReader ,   USA   (08.23.11)
I am stunned and amazed (See me here? Don't I look stunned and amazed?) Once again Etain Haber knocks it out of the park with a "Dumb Ball", to end all "Dumb Balls". How is it possible to live in an area with Israel's history, both ancient and current and NOT understand that "optics" "visuals" ARE reality. Apoligize and you buy ALL that is involved with claiming the error. National Honor? Who needs it? Other than a free an independent people. Haber borders on an odd slavish comfort of being wrong. All the time. What a foolish and cowardly wanker is our Etian. Always was. Always will be.
28. You cant apologize
Maxie ,   Egypt   (08.23.11)
as its so obvious..israelians are no differant from Egyptians in their theory of hatered ,but the idea is You hate everyone but love yourselves and when you forget this idea people would live in peace with you..you dont want to apologize for anything even if your actions are wrong .Egypt apologized and paid fees for the soldier who killed 6 israelians and he was killed as well..now you cant apologize although you came across our lands and killed our soldeirs? and how many times we would say...you are responsibale for your lands..we protect our lands ONLY and if the terrorists smuggled there its not our fault ,its your fault becuase you cant protect what you have..i never heard that usa protect mexico borders..thats new theory you invinted and even if they smuggled the result cant be our soldeirs died..because we could hit back
29. peace-agreement (for mankind/ life etc.).
sjoerd ruurd van der ,   mankind-land etc.   (08.23.11)
not only a peace-agreement between zionism, judaism and the egyptian leadership/people/egypt is necesary. also a peace-agreement for the entire people of humanity/mankind will be/is usefull. FOR A FREE, DEMOCRATIC, SOVEREIGN AND PEACEFULL PEOPLE OF HUMANITY/MANKIND, WITH AMONG OTHERS SELF-DETERMINATION, ALSO INDIVIDUALLY, EVERYWHERE AND ALWAYS!!!!
30. Life without honour is not a life at all
norbus ,   Jerusalem   (08.23.11)
Haber advocating appeasement is an act of a desperate man confused and a man who lost the meaning for living
