1. Don't let Egypt re-militarize the Sinai.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (08.23.11)
Our gov't. & the Defense establishment are just stupid enough to allow more & more Egyptian military into the Sinai with the excuse that it's for ''our security.'' A great many of our politicians & the security establishment live in the past - they haven't figured out that Mubarak is gone & Egypt will undergo a major change, not in our favour. Egypt will be increasingly hostile. The Muslim Brotherhood will be an open ally of Hamas. gypt's economic situation is deteriorating & we will be the scapegoat. Egyptian public opinion is also increasingly anti-Israel. The Sinai must remain de-militarized. We must find other options to control terrorism emanating from the Sinai. Our security cannot be farmed out to Egypt. Egypt will gradually renege on all terms & obligations of the treaty while attempting to keep American aid, they will give lip service to the treaty. We must not accept a make-believe treaty emptied of it's content.
2. Trial
M.J. Eizen ,   Petah Tikvah, Israel   (08.23.11)
We will put our soldiers on trial, right after the Egyptians put all of their soldiers on trial that shot unarmed African refugees to death at the border. I am waiting for their trials to begin.
3. The Eilat attack likely came from Egyptian Islamic militants
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor, UK   (08.23.11)
As time goes by it is becoming clearer that the terrorist attack near Eilat was in all likelihood the work of Egyptian Islamic militants. Indeed since the Sinai peninsula was handed back to Egypt in 1982 Mubarak, "Israel's strategic asset", systematically neglected the region and thereby caused a lot of discontent. The local population was not the one that benefitted from the development of the tourist resorts like Sharm al-Sheikh. And when Islamic militants attacked the tourist resorts the police crackdown resulted in the arrest and torture of thousands of young men, quite a few of whom were driven into the arms of Islamic extremism. There have been a lot of attacks lately on gas pipe lines from Egypt to Israel. Also Islamic militants have attacked security checkpoints and a police post in al-Arish not long ago was attacked by about a hundred Islamic militants. It is much more likely that the attack near Eilat, which was different in character from the usual Palestinian operations, was the work of these militants. But Israel decided to retaliate on a weak party, Gaza, that cannot do much in return. It does not want to wake up the slumbering tiger that Egypt is.
4. thanks to Israel, Palestinians trust more in Egypt
observer ,   Egypt   (08.23.11)
the way Egypt has dealt with last escalation at the border shows that Palestinians turned out to be successful in their testing Egypt support to Gaza. No more 2006 inaction by Egypt. Palestinians practically tested Egypt like a war maneuver. Thanks Israel.
5. Palestinians aren't anymore hasty in claiming responsibility
observer ,   Egypt   (08.23.11)
that surpasses Israel' expectation.
6. #4, actually you are wrong
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (08.23.11)
Sadat was clever enough to realize that Egypt would remain a hellhole unless he did something. He realized that alliance with the US and friendship with Israel would be the only way to economic development that would make Egypt prosperous. Mubarak started his career stupid. He kept the alliance with US to get lots of shiny weapons, but he chose war with Israel, dooming Egypt to economic failure. Mubarak realized his stupidity the last year of his rule, but by then it was too late. Now, the Egyptian people are being played by the Islamists. Instead of thinking about food or the future, the Egyptians prefer to sink deeper in their cesspool, and what for? For the "Palestinians" a group of people who have better health care, better education, more food, longer life span and a better future than any Egyptian. Face it, Egypt restarting the war with Israel was a foregone conclusion and there was nothing we could have done. As Arafat said "Khaibar Khaibar ya Yahud".
7. mubarak was the only one who stuck us with them
Ester   (08.23.11)
people egyptians HATE us get over it!
8. Egypt's trying to take over the Sinai
bad assed Jew. ,   united States   (08.23.11)
will you also let Egypt dictate who and what will be built in the Sinai? If so, prepare for another hostile front that Israel will have to defend.
9. Terry - Eilat
David   (08.23.11)
Who on earth is this "Terry-Elat-Israel" who seems to have a monopoly position with the editors of YNET. I have no right to complain about his thoughtless extreme right wing views - BUT - his views can't be given exclusivity day after day on a site which should serve a variety of feelings and political views. At the same opportunity, may I remind the editor of YNET what it says on toip of the site: "...racist slurs, slander etc" wont be printed. Do you occasinaly read some of the talkbacks?
10. #9
Yaron ,   USA   (08.23.11)
Stop whining....Terry is the wisest talkbacker that writes consistently in Ynet. It is the sniveling little left wingers that deserve no forum other than the filth that is Haaretz to have their little love fest that undermines Israel's standing. I wish we could filter you left wing nuts so that Terry's commentary is the most mild here.
11. #4 you deserted them years ago, maybe
Iranian Jew ,   LA   (08.23.11)
You should man up and start taking care of your responsibilities. Are you afraid that muslim brotherhood will be your new boss or even the monkey in Tehran? What are you so happy about? You are the one with the messed up economy, army who can't defend it's own soil form it's own people. Even with all the rockets we are still doing our business as usual. What are you doing? Waiting to see what the new revolution will bring for you? Your entire country is in trouble and all you do dance around when couple of idiots kill some Jews.
12. #4 dear Observer ,
Salma ,   Palestine   (08.23.11)
Palestine and Egypt are Brothers FOREVER : )
13. #9 David on Terry
Maurice ,   Montreal   (08.23.11)
You may not agree with Terry, but you have no right to request his opinions not to be voiced. Ynet gives enough place to both right and left wing talkbacks. Even to enemy talkbacks! Have you not read here day after day Salma's talkbacks? I happen to agree with most of what Terry says. If you don't like it, go take a hike! This is called democracy.
14. Israel should demand...
Carsten Schmidt ,   Old Europe   (08.23.11)
... an apology from Egypt for them allowing the street mob to take the Israeli flag from the embassy in Cairo. CS
15. To: No. 4
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.23.11)
You are a complete whack job. The only reason Egypt is scrambling to repair fences with Israel is because Israel informed the Egyptians that if they could not properly police the Sinai, Israel will take it back. And we can. In a heartbeat. That's why the Egyptians are being so polite, reasonable and accommodating. The ersatz "Palestinians" have nothing to do with it. You guys just want to hang onto the Sinai and the Suez Canal. We could take that, too. In fact -- should the need arise -- we will. We will. You cannot stop us. No one can.
16. To: No. 12
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.23.11)
Oh, goody. So, come September, perhaps we will send you there instead of Jordan. Have fun living in the armpit of the Middle East. Brothers ... forever.
17. To: Carsten at No. 14
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.23.11)
No worries. We'll plant our flag along the Suez Canal when the day comes that we take it. (Sooner rather than later, would be my guess.)
18. Netanyahu the genious strikes again!
LebanonPride ,   Canada   (08.23.11)
He helped strengthen the ties between the Egyptian people and Palestinian people. He attacked Gaza while unprovoked, with no proof of any terrorist ties to Gaza and building evidence of this, thus breaking the ceasefire. He attacked Egyptian officers at the border, further damaging Israel's already crappy reputation in Egypt. Egypt is not Hamas or Hezbollah. Egypt is a sleeping giant. Be careful not to wake it.
19. dear salma as you know
Barney ,   USA   (08.23.11)
sadly palis are just a pawn in every arab country's game against Israel. if they were truly brothers they wouldn't be in refugee camps after 60 plus years and fired on by the likes of assad. Jews were expelled from many arab countries. notice any Jewish refugee camps? that is brotherhood.
20. ambasador's house
sas ,   israel   (08.23.11)
how did they manage to get into the gardenof the house of the ambassador in Maadi??????? there r egyptian guards outside and israeli ones inside??????????????????????????????????????sounds very strange. someone must have been sleeping?????????????????????????????
21. David on Terry
David   (08.23.11)
My dear Maurice, of course Terry has a right to be heard. Youmay not have noticed what I noticed: that he is on talkback nearly daily and sometimes more than once. That isa bit unproportional. Don't you think so? Or maybe I feel that way because I live in Jertusalem, very close to the trouble, whilst you are in happy, safe Montreal
22. Yaron on #10
David Rubinger ,   Jerusale,   (08.23.11)
Dear Yaron (in the USA of course) Whining; sniveling; filth; left wing nuts: Your language is evidence enough to judge you by. I presume we'll find you in the USA when the shit starts flying around here? Albest
23. to 16
john Darren ,   cairns-Australia   (08.24.11)
Salmas armpits are legendary-just like her beak.
