Not everybody was a Nazi during "H" time, neither was everybody a Communist supporter under Stalin.
Nevertheless people made their judgment based on the official policy of named regimes, regardless of the emotional stand of their population at large.
The present American policy is openly acrimonious towards Israel even if it is directed by Leftist Jews.
