4. NICE STORY,HARD TO BELIEVE,I'LL TELL YA WHY
..DACON9   (08.27.11)
THERE HAS BEEN a dozen cease fires since. All cease firing from the violations every few hours or so. THEREFORE IN CONCLUSION....... WHICH AND WHEN WILL THE REAL QASSAMS BE NOTICE ENOUGH FOR ISRAEL? IN ADDITION: seems like a lot of noice made with these preparations without the enemies in the knesset not notifying their brothers in hamas etc etc. SO ONCE AGAIN ITS ALL A LIE AND A GAME THAT ISRAEL PLAYS WHILE ISRAEL IMAGE which used to be a deterrant is no longer impressive. ALL THE WORLD IS A STAGE shakespear wrote. Eventually he also died. THERE IS AN END SOMEWHERE..IS IT WITH MASHIACH? THEN WE ALL BETTER GET READY AND START PRAYING
5. Barak
Matt   (08.27.11)
People calling to sack Barak at the moment during the current situation, are foolish. His diplomacy and long association with Egypt as Prime Minister and Defense Minister is an asset, that helps contain the situation. A new person can cause misunderstandings or rub the wrong way. Barak is a known quantity to the Egyptian Military.
6. War is still a legal matter even against Gaza RIGHT ???
M.S. ,   mpls america   (08.27.11)
I realize whatever Israel does it must realize the world America the U K France Russia China Africa South America India can judge it harshly at the United Nations which has become and so turned in to more less a condemn sanction Israel club thus Israel must realize it is 2011 there is no poor Israel because of the hallocaust 1948 sentiment any more and so the anti Israel countrys have the upper hand advantage in diplomacy it is 1948 in reverse Jews are now as bad as Arabs were regarded as then so Israel do not make the same mistake the Arabs made but if war happens treat it as a equal neutral situation after all September 2011 is September 2011 RIGHT ??? Thank You... M. S.
7. Israel must retake Gaza permanently.
Chaim ,   Israel   (08.27.11)
Ultimately, we know Disengagement was a horrendous disaster.. More than a disaster, it was a crime against thousands of uprooted Israeli civilians and the countless Israelis who suffered from the last (totally unnecessary) Gaza War and tens of thousands of rockets from Gaza. Israel must retake Gaza permanently. The only question is: how many more rockets, maimings and murders, from Gaza, do we suffer before we do it?
8. ..."Our leadership is navigating through a minefield...."

cristian ,   buenos aires arg   (08.27.11)
Jesus said you will hear of wars and rumors of wars but see to it that you are not alarmed such things must happen but the end is still to come ,nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom there will be famines and earthquakes in various places, watch out that no one deceives you for many will come in my name claiming I am the messiah and will deceive many at that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other let no one in any way deceive you for it will not come unless the apostacy comes first because of the increase of wickedness the love of most will grow cold as it was in the days of noah so it will be at the coming of the son of man likewise as it was in the days of lot even so will it be in the day when the son of man is revealed
10. Read Between the Lines
khaled B ,   Toronto, Canada   (08.27.11)
why would anyone expose a plan that they haven't used yet. especially if it was great one. now Hamas would know what to hide and prepare for next time. there wasn't going to be any war on Gaza. With do all respect to the victims of the Eillat mission, this was all planed by the Israeli government to get all the Israeli's attention off the protests on the streets that were about to overthrow the Nytn Yahoo Gov.
11. They both look quite happy holding each others
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (08.27.11)
Hand? It almost looks like bliss on each mans face. Scary!
12. harta barta - babble
Israeli   (08.27.11)
Since Oslo, Israel has always be re - active not pro-active, never initiates just reacts to the terrorists. That is not a winning formula, in fact its stupid as. Israel says you can kill our citizens but careful just not too much otherwise you cross the line and we will have to act big time. I long ago no longer have any respect for Israels ruling elite, bunch of nobody cowards just clinging to their good jobs at any cost. F-em the lot of them.
13. a message from Ehud Barak
Ehud Barak ,   El-Quds   (08.27.11)
Dear Israelis, do not worry, I have negotiated, not one, but several cease-fires with out Peace Partners (Peace be upon them). Any rockets you may have heard or seen are just a figment of your imagination, I have it all under control. So have a nice day, your, defence minister, Ehud "serial deliberate war loser" Barak
14. Bovine defecation
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (08.27.11)
Runaway Barak and Spineless Bibi are the ones that blinked, not Hamas. When are we going to get leadership that has any sort of backbone? Bring back Moshe Arens then we will see who blinks.
15. aha !
Salma ,   Palestine   (08.27.11)
so "Israel" carried out the wishes of Hamas. Alex Fishman, Is this analysis for adults or for children ?
16. I'm shaking my head wearily at Israel's stupidity
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (08.27.11)
IDF and our politicans never seem to learn. 1)Israeli citizens' lives are more important than diplomatic relations with dubious regimes in the Middle East and outside of the Middle East and 2) Israel's power and might are more important than diplomatic relations with dubious regimes. Israel should ruthlessly amass power, ruthlessly take out all enemies without mercy or pardon and without any second thought and develop a strategy to undermine Israel's enemies in every way possible - including dubious regimes with whom we have technically speaking - "peace".
17. Re #9
John ,   Alaska   (08.27.11)
Luke 21:24 says "And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled." This prophecy was fulfilled in 1967. So yea, we are in the end times. But the important thing for all of us now is to serve G-d today. Tomorrow will come when it comes, Moshiach will come when He comes. But we've all been given today to be good stewards of right now.
18. Re #10 interesting phraseology
John ,   Alaska   (08.27.11)
Khaled said: "With do all respect to the victims of the Eillat mission" I find it curious and somewhat unsettling to read of a terrorist attack which targeted and killed innocent civilians as a "mission". Rescuing hostages is a mission, killing terrorists is a mission. Finding and taking down Osama Bin Laden was a mission. What happened in Eliat was not a mission; it was murder.
19. The photo of Abbas is reasonable but:
The Observer   (08.27.11)
the photo of Haniyeh looks the image of an Ape except for the colour of his beard, and as for Arafat, my G-d I really and truly just want to vomit when I see that mouth of his. Arafat's wife was quite attractive, so I question how she could possibly have loved and gone to bed with that filthy looking man. Was it because of money? it must have been. I hear she lives it up in Paris!
20. To 15 - So thats Hamas HQ was evacuated in a panic?
NewMan   (08.27.11)
Thanks for the childish analysis...
21. #13 A reply from Abu Obeida
Salma ,   Palestine   (08.27.11)
Dear Barak, because of your extreme kindness we are ready to replace you with Gilad Shalit. Yallah Habibi we wait for you.
22. hahahaha yneeet that pic made me laugh for an hr ahahahhah
Ester   (08.27.11)
23. Hamastan-PLOstan Union "state" is what some are eager to
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (08.27.11)
hand over to these people, and these some are member states of the organization responsible to maintain peace and security around the world, the United Nations. These UN member states and those groups and individuals supporting the idea mock everything that is decent and proper in human discourse and instead promote with their own hands and voices that which is despicable: the violation of the very first of all human rights: the right to live and to defend one's life. Yes, we, Jews, are human beings who equally deserve this very right that you mock when it comes to this singled out people and its singled out national home.
24. # 16 Alex , you are voicing my will. Good Job !
Moshe ,   Usa   (08.27.11)
25. Blinked
michaelpielet ,   boca raton, Israel   (08.27.11)
Its more complicated than you claim. Israel was concerned about undermining the armistice with Egypt. I f anything Israel blinked. This article is simply trying to explain and justify government policy. Was it the right policy, only time will tell.
26. Gaza
michaelpielet ,   boca raton, Israel   (08.27.11)
Yes, Chaim, Israel should take back Gaza. Then what are we to do eat it. Your solution potentially is worse than the problem. Israel is involved in a game of chess with the Iranians. The Iranians want to exterminate us. Gaza, Hamas, Hezbollah, Lebanon, Syria are all Iranian pawns. We, the Jews have to be smarter and outwit the Iranians and foil their plans for us.
27. Sorry Mate, but.....
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (08.27.11)
...the mote was in Ehud the Pudgy's eye and it was he that blinked. Look. I have read and understand DefMin Barak's CV. He was a terrific soldier. Heroic? I will not quibble. But every good soldier is NOT fit for either command or for political leadership. Barak; Our Barky, appears to be a totally unqualified and is an un-able putz and is clearly not fit to perform the duties of DefMin. Locked in to being a self serving and dithering polititurd, he will never be competent. Evah!! Remove and replace.
28. #10 - Israel doesn't live by the law of Arab conpsiracy
William ,   Israel   (08.28.11)
Your claim that Israel orchestrated an attack on its own citizens near Eilat so as to take pressure off Bibi is nothing short of retarded. This theory may work in Tehran, Cairo, Damascus, and even among Muslims with the same mentality in Toronto, but not in Jerusalem. Bibi is not in any danger of losing his govt seat, and the protesters in Israel are peaceful and focused on improving social issues. No violence, no tanks in city squares, no snipers on room tops. Arabs could learn a lesson from those they hate. Despite your claim of finding this valuable nugget of intelligence, the article is vague about Israeli preparations to hit terrorists in Gaza, and any "insight" you might have gained reading the article was already known in Gaza and already eluded to by Israel for years. I'm not in the intelligence community nor tied to govt, but I figured out this plan years ago simply from paying attention. Clearly, your attention span is rather limited.
29. #18 - I caught that phrase too
William ,   Israel   (08.28.11)
Thought it was a bit weird, but I didn't need more than the poster's name to figure that out,
