91. Michael @76, No, I am not in school.
leo ,   usa   (08.31.11)
However, I am always willing to learn. For example, I just learned that despite all this boycotting activity Britain is still having business with Israel. Unfortunately you did not say anything about the trend. Does cooperation grow from year to year or just the opposite? Anyway, back to my point. First, I did not say Europe should be dropped. Second, I said that Europe is not that important anymore and the reason being - Europe is not the only game in town. Third, if you are being boycotted you can only do one thing - move on. No sense keep talking about how good it was before while doing nothing to better your situation. Forth, I understand you may feel upset for not being given due respect and importance.
92. BDS was staered by Israel radical Left
Isaac Barr MD ,   USA   (08.31.11)
BDS was staered by Israel radical Left. From Be'tselem, Shomrim Shtika, from Nurit Peled, Ariella Azulai, Neve Gordon, Micah Leshem, Ilan Pappe to name a few are all directly responsible not only for BDS but also of encouraging anti Semitism.
93. I WILL SURVIVE WITHOUT BREAD BUT NOT WITHOUT FRIENDS!
keep on boycotting ,   and we keep the love   (08.31.11)
94. Right-wingers take note: settlements are not popular...
Rafi ,   US   (08.31.11)
... and, except for some small portions of the Diaspora community, have virtually NO support worldwide. You can call it anti-Semitic and a other self-justifying excuses - but your settlement policies and that of the Netanyahu govt have caused real pain to Israel as a whole. Now we await the consequences of the other great result of your actions- the UN Palestinian initiaitve in Sept. Please read this: despite your self-justifying wailing against it, NONE OF THESE BOYCOTTS EXISTED UNDER THE RABIN GOVT AND THE OSLO PERIOD. On the contrary, Israel's diplomatic and international trade relations reached unprecedented highs. Now Israel is paying heavily for the "brillance" of Avigdor Lieberman and Danny Ayalon at the helm of Israel's diplomacy.
95. Herzliya
nospam ,   moon   (08.31.11)
How about returning Herzliya back to arabs?
96. To #86:
Israeli in Toronto   (08.31.11)
Abdallah is typing his bds bull on a computer that contains an Israeli-made processor. How's that boycott working for you, idiot?
97. Toss Out Your Intel Computers Hypocrites!
Ari   (08.31.11)
Intel core processors are developed in Israel. While you are at it toss out your cell phones too since there is a good chance most of the technology was developed in Israel.
98. boycott
Mike ,   US   (08.31.11)
start doing more business in Asia, ie vietnam, thailand, china, Japan, Korea Singapore, India...screw the Europeans
99. #76, Israel imports more than it exports to the EU
Danny   (08.31.11)
100. Park Slope Food Coop will not join BDS
Stop BDS Park Slope ,   Brooklyn   (08.31.11)
This sentence is totally incorrect: "A major boycott is going to be approved soon at the Park Slope Food Coop, a renowned cooperative in Brooklyn, affecting Israeli paprika, bath salts, vegan marshmallows and the Soda Stream seltzer machine. " Please correct. There is talk of introducing holding a referendum to join BDS. If the proposal to hold a referendum is ever brought to the General Meeting, it has no chance of passing. Please do some reporting. There is an active opposition. You do not help by making things up. Get real sources.
101. boycott
fred lazin ,   ny USA   (08.31.11)
What should we expect when the current Israeli government makes policies which enable the boycott of Israeli good to succeed. Many of the supporters of the boycott movement do not oppose Israel but they oppose the occupation and the settlements. They strongly favor boycotting both. On the other hand many of them support Israel and its legitimacy. But the Israeli government and Knesset have a policy which states that if you boycott the settlements then you boycott Israel; if you oppose occupation then you oppose Israel. This situation is a real threat to Israel. The occupation and settlements are harmful and against the best interests of Israel.
102. Jews need to prepare for war
k ,   US   (08.31.11)
The Anti-semitism is coming from the left wing and the right wing, Jews are alone in this world, the world will allow another Holocaust if it means they can save themselves
103. Will they boycott Israel's natural gas when we become export
Rick   (08.31.11)
Flowers is one thing NLG is quite another. They are just hypocrites that will kiss Jewish tuches when they need gas.
104. We are not here for the sake of money so who cares !
olim hadashim ,   tel aviv/israel   (08.31.11)
105. meotti is a tzadik
Nadin   (08.31.11)
106. Money-losing cashcrops not worth water, guestworker problems
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (08.31.11)
Now is a good time for Israel to pull the plug on money losing kibbutz businesses that do not pay the true cost of their massive water over-use, depriving other sectors, and which do not pay anything toward the full social cost of the thousands of foreign workers they import. These are money-losing enterprises (socialist voodoo economics not withstanding) - 3% of Israel's economy but 70% of its water use. Sectors of the economy using foreign guest workers (who then do not leave) should be paying (through added taxes on their revenues) 100% of the direct and indirect costs of those workers, not just pocketing the profits from exports of cash crops. Now is a good time to get out of these businesses, which in effect subsidize with Israeli public money the low cost of flowers and citrus in Europe.
107. Then why is the economy growing?
Vlad   (08.31.11)
The world loves Israel's high-tech, medical, and military products. Nations buy these up no matter what a fringe minority of radicals has to say about it, and if ever the US and Europeans. So Israel loses some money from partially-successful boycotts of its agricultural products. These boycotts are not even as successful as they hope to be: They actually prompt Israel supporters to buy up Israeli products, and have never had that big of an effect on companies (Agrexico would never be bankrupt due to the boycott alone: As this article admits, other issues are involved too).
108. Israel can defeat the Nazi inspired boycotts.
Chaim ,   Israel   (08.31.11)
Nothing is more certain than that our enemies attack us wherever they can; whether it be the battlefield or through racist Nazi type boycotts. However, nothing is more certain than the fact that Israel can win when we fight to win. The Arab League boycotted Israel since our birth. Yet Israel grows stronger and richer every year. Israel must do two things to defeat the Nazi inspired boycotts: 1. Shout the truth out loud. Judea and Samria legally belong to us. We have the proof and it is overwhelming. Why are we silent about it? We should serve the U.N., E.U., all the world governments and media with proof. Every Israeli diplomat and representative should present it at world gatherings. Will we convince our enemies? Of course not. However, we will strengthen our position, encourage our friends and convince every open minded person we are correct. 2. Expose the boycotters for the very thinly disguised racist Jew hating bigots they are. Expose their organizations, their funding, and every despicable fact about their miserable existence. Expose their hypocrisy in demonizing Israel while saying nothing about truly monstrous human rights violators.
109. Some perspective
Mark ,   New York   (08.31.11)
I don't doubt the above mentioned boycotts and some minor damage they have caused but overall they have had little to no effect on the Israeli economy which has had some of the most robust growth in the OECD. While a select few of ill informed European & American socialists and their organizations have boycotted Israel and its businesses most organizations and especially the general public don’t care...Palestinian, Israeli makes no difference to them. Also, 20 yrs ago because of the Soviet Arab alliance 1/2 the world was closed off to Israeli trade, today Israel is one of the most active country’s in China and Russia...these are massive markets where Israeli firms have made billions...not to mention India, Brazil, labor unions or not Israeli exports to Brazil have increased, not decreased like to the BRIC nations. The only damage from these boycotts is physiological because of the unnecessary media coverage these idiots receive, especially from the Israeli press.
110. My understanding is Israeli product exports keep growing
David ,   Boston, USA   (08.31.11)
Why focus on the narrow minded racist boycotters? They will always complain. Ignore them or overwhelm them buy buying more. Mention how much the exports are growing. Israeli products are high quality. I like having the food available in local stores. I try to buy, US, North American, and Israeli products first. Israeli food is yummy. Flowers are great too. We used to buy them for all religious occasions when they were easily available. Am Yisrael Chai!
111. israel's economy booming
david ,   new york   (08.31.11)
meanwhile, israel's per capita GDP went from $19,000 to $29,800 from 2002-2010. 2010 exports are $55 billion. israel's military exports went from $2.3 billion in 2003 to >$7 billion in 2010. its per caipta GDP will very soon overtake european countries such as italy and great britain. not bad for a country being shot at.
112. Philo # 6 living on fantasy island
Harvey ,   London   (08.31.11)
You are living in some parallel universe if you think all it takes is for israel to withdraw from the west bank . We have been there before . 1948 through 1967 there was no so called occupation and no settlements . What was the excuse then for not declaring an independent state . It's nothing but smoke and mirrors . Anybody who thinks that withdrawal from the west bank will lead to an irrevocable peace accord with the Palestinians is deluding themselves . Like gaza, it's just another step in their ultimate goal . I look forward to the day technology allows israel to pull the plug on these boycotting organizations .
113. BDS is a spectacular failure !
Trumpeldor   (08.31.11)
Let us remain proactive and careful !
114. # 6 Israels economy
Ken ,   Australia   (08.31.11)
the economic impacts of the state of israel will impact the people who are takeing the boycott stand and obviously in a big way. They cant continue to boycott israel, this will return to normal tradeing probably very soon, theres other alternatives and ways to fight these people. As far as the occupation debate continues , when the palestines come to there senses and acknoledge the jewish state , you may get a deal out of it, but on the other side of it, No jew will ever become a palestine.
115. which side are you on? the terrorists' or Israel's?
dante ,   uk   (08.31.11)
the boycotters have declared that they stand on the side of the terrorists. they are the proud enemies of decency.
116. The BDS movement reminds one of Brown Shirts,
Jehudah ,   Israel   (08.31.11)
demanding, yes, demanding of non-Jews to boycott Jewish businesses for the simple reason, that they are Jewish. But, being anti-Jewish is no longer "politically correct" in certain circles, so the substitute is "anti-Zionism" and "anti-Israel", both of which are very much part of Jewish civilization of course, but appear to the fool that it is a legitimate cause. Anti-Jewish racism was the motive then and it is the motive today!!
117. boycott ????
Alex ,   USA   (08.31.11)
There is no serious effect of Arab boycott . Not now and not in the future. The fact is, the world industries, in various factors, trough the Israeli inventions, totally involved and committed with their products. It's a hopeless try, to harm the Israeli economic advance.
118. Silly, ignorant Philos #6. He himself is the occupier.
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (08.31.11)
Ah those poor, silly, deluded people living in what they think is "Israel". The Palestinians are very clear - Philos is a settler and Herzliya is occupied Palestine. Philos only thinks that he's safe in "Israel", but the Palestinians have never said that Philos (or me, for that matter) are legitimate. In the eyes of the Arabs who call themselves "Palestinians", Judea is like Herzliya is like Tel Aviv - occupied "Palestine". This is despite the fact, of course, that there has never been a country called "Palestine", and before 1967 the "Palestinians" were just "Arab refugees", and before 1948 when you said "the Palestinians" you meant Jews. Poor, deluded Philos and the rest of the silly people don't understand that "ending the occupation" means that Philos will go home to Siberia, where the Palestinians say the Jews come from.
119. Hmmm, does the author work for J Street?
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (08.31.11)
With the tremendous success of the Israeli economy and the enviable low unemployment we have, I wonder if the author was paid by J Street to write this piece of phony journalism.
120. BDS my ... foot - "Israeli startup making it big in India".
leo ,   usa   (08.31.11)
