1. Is foreign and enemy money behind this?
MARK KLEIN, M.D. ,   OAKLAND   (09.03.11)
Buses, sound systems, lighting and publicity cost money!
2. Waste Of TIme
moti ,   RBS   (09.03.11)
waste of time.... get a job..work hard ...make money...dont blame BB or anyone else for your lack of motivation...you people just want handouts...time to grow up
3. Their signs say it clear
David ,   On this planet   (09.03.11)
The people against this government. They are not protesting for a better life, they want the current government to fall. They are made up of Lefties, Communists, anti Israeli Arabs and people who were fooled by a band of young people subsidized by foreign entities wishing to destroy the state of Israel
4. We want it cheaper, and we want it NOW!!!
Cameron ,   USA   (09.03.11)
My interest & sympathy evaporate when I hear the issues being framed in terms of "social justice" and "our rights". Welcome to living in the big, expensive city, kids. Note as well that The Million Man March in the States was a symbolic moment of "feel good" farce that accomplished absolutely nothing.
5. 250,00 will be a massive failure!
michael redbourn ,   arad israel   (09.03.11)
250,000 = 3.5% of the country want bigger hand-outs. Imagine that you bought a house in the last 2-3 years in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem and suddenly the government was going to subsidize contractors to enable them to sell cheaper housing. You'd scrimped and saved and finally bought a property. Your house would suddenly be worth less! But you'd have to keep paying your mortgage. Have any of the radicals in tents thought about this? Do they care about it?
6. We are surrounded by enemies...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (09.03.11)
Our leaders need to be able to focus on Israel s security. This is not the right time for demonstrations.
7. #6 i doubt Steinitz is working on any defense systems
(09.03.11)
by your logic we should just put the entire country on hold until the security issue is resolved. we'll never get anything done.
8. Right idea - totally wrong agenda
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (09.03.11)
Yes, Israel needs serious change, but they're barking up the wrong tree. #1 change needed = direct election of politicians. Proportional representation sucks when it is the only system used. Get rid of party lists and have direct elections based on electoral districts, which may finally bring the word "accountability" into the Hebrew language. #2 - the guilty parties are not the government in power. They are just the tools who keep the wheels of exploitation turning. Who is really guilty? -the haredi rabbis, who decided that graft and bribes are more important than parnasa. Their greed and stupidity (yes, greedy and STUPID) is only matched by the sheepish stupidity of their followers who bought into the idea that parnasa comes from using other people's tax money. They have created a mass of poverty that is an embarrassment to Judaism. -Arab leaders, whose own incompetence and divisiveness have crippled the Arab sector. With 20% of the population they should be the 2nd biggest block in the Knesset. Instead, they're too busy putting knives in each other's backs and helping push up the poverty numbers. -business leaders, especially the Israel Manufacturers Association, who in their own greed have knowingly created a huge poverty and class problem in Israel. Instead of pressuring the government to make sure more people are educated, fed, housed and employed, they are simply looking out for their bottom lines. Well, their bottom line includes a healthy country and while our economy is currently robust, that 20% poverty rate is going up, not down.
9. Foreign elements
Tom   (09.03.11)
It's funny how the Gaddafis, Assads, Ahmadinejads and other assorted conservative nuts always suspect that there are "foreign elements" behind the protests. They are so detached from reality that they cannot believe that so many people could be fed up with the status quo "paradise", which these conservatives so cherish in their petrified delusions.
10. i wondered when will finally the sane majority
David   (09.03.11)
will rise and be heard in Israel? it is wuite encoureging and source of inspiration to see not all Israel is Sarah B. or liberman. Well done.
11. Right wing fantasies
Gabriel ,   Tel Aviv   (09.03.11)
This is a popular Israeli movement. The biggest protest in the country's history supported by people from all over the Israel and from all different backgrounds. Israel needs to change. And Or, the "this isn't the right time" is what got us into this mess. Leaders have avoided doing anything forever because they always just care about security. This is a Democratic country. We can do focus and security and take care of our other problems at the same time.
12. Critics, come & live here for a few years
Ted   (09.03.11)
work their jobs and get the same wages, without any foreign funds, and you may understand the reasons for these protests. If you are here, you will understand that it has nothing to do with leftists. People who are not living here and are disconnected to real living here, have no right to criticize these protesters.
13. What country guarantied: housing, food, jobs, health care?
J1 ,   Earth   (09.03.11)
That was the soviet union. Who did that socialist utopia work out?
14. "social injustice" to #4
Teresa ,   Bethesda,MD, USA   (09.03.11)
Actually they want it free and they want it now. To hell with the consequences. Whoever told anyone that they "deserve" anything. Go to school, for which you pay almost nothing, work hard, don't spend it on nonsense, invent, start a business and do not count on the government or your Mommy and Daddy to support you for the rest of your life.
15. Only inflation in Israel is in false reporting
Ilan   (09.03.11)
Let's count every protester twice.
16. Stop welfare, except to the physically
jason white ,   afula, israel   (09.03.11)
disabled. Stop child allowances to those that never served in the I.D.F. Stop alyah of the elderly. No more money to the families of convicted prisoners.
17. Forbid foreign ownership of realestate
naro ,   nyc   (09.03.11)
Israeli families are competing on price of real estate against foreigners who are bringing in their black, undeclared, money in order to hide it from their tax authorities. This is jacking up the price of real estate in Israel dramatically. There is no way Israelis can compete with foreign crooks and thieves.
18. Pity...
Baruch ,   Marin County, CA   (09.03.11)
It's a pity that Israelis are falling for all this hope and change nonsense. I see that there is already a word for it coined B'ivrit, which is Tzedek Hevrati. Go ahead, fall for it. Eat the crap sandwich. The Egyptians fell for it, and you can see what happened to them. They're still hungry. But wait, there's more. Chronic unemployment in the US, bankruptcies, debt, you name it. I agree with #1. I smell Obummer's PR handlers behind this so-called Tzedek Hevrati movement. These people need to visit Israelis in America to see how they're protesting in the streets for "social justice". Hmm, on the other hand, don't waste your time. They're busy working and earning a living... Just sayin' is all, ya know...
19. "Social Justice" Marxism by the minority mob
Greycoat ,   Tampa, FL   (09.03.11)
"Social Justice" is the latest lingo and code for "Marxism", i.e. socialism. There are over 7 million people in Israel and these 400,000 protesters don't even number close to being near the majority let alone the majority. But instead of going to the polls in an election to have their "hope and change", they take to the streets like the Left always does, i.e. tyranny of the mob. Mob rule is not the way to run a country. In recent past protests in Israel, there were signs of Che, a revolutionary mass murderer, being carried by the Marxists and "useful idiots" of the Marxists. Bibi needs to tell them no for Israel is not ruled by the mob particularly a mob that does not represent the majority in Israel. By the way, I bet George Soros and his "Open Society" are directly or indirectly supporting these Marxists and "Useful idiots". These "new Israelis" are just peddling the old failed doctrine of Socialism wrapped with a new ribbon called "social justice".
20. #16 CHANGE THE RECORD
LAWRENCE ,   Zefat (Safed)   (09.03.11)
You really are a dreadful bore with your tedious rants against the elderly.I hope you will be old one day.
21. Question #16
daze ,   US   (09.04.11)
At what age do you consider as being elderly? At what age do you slam the door in a Jew's face? At what age do you deny a Jew who seeks the comfort of living out the rest of their life amongst Jews and to die in the Jewish homeland?
22. Most service providers for the event donated their services
Itai   (09.04.11)
The middle class in Israel is fed up. There is no political party behind this, people just can't afford to live in dignity so they protest. If anything, this protest makes Israelis stronger and that's not in the interest of their enemies.
23. #1, 18 are right. The US is involved.
Gershon   (09.03.11)
It is the headline at IsraelNationalNews dot com. The Obama/Hillary Clinton people joined with the Israeli left in staging these marches. "Social justice" is just the current excuse. Their real goal has been the same all summer: get rid of Netanyahu. Too bad a lot of naive Israelis are falling for it. They will be very sorry for helping weaken their own country when, on 9/23, the United Nations declares Jerusalem the capital of "Palestine" and Muslims swarm into Israel from all sides to celebrate their victory over the Jews. Concerned Israelis need to stop supporting these protests NOW. Hussein Obama's "Hope and Change" already damaged America and Egypt. Do not allow him to destroy Israel.
24. Call me silly but
JB ,   Rehovot Israel   (09.04.11)
Doesn't a protest have to end sometime? That time is past due. We have to get ready for the "Palestinian" vote at the UN, and we can't do that with these distractions. Gee, I wonder what the political bent of these protesters is. I didn't see them protesting when buses were blowing up every day, when Hezbollah was destroying the North, or whenever Hamas decides to kill innocent Israelis.
25. led by black panthers?
IRV ,   USA   (09.03.11)
I have curiously been following these tent city protests for weeks. When I read this article and saw black panther leading they LOST me! The black panthers are a vile racist organization who does absolutely no good for anyone. What kind of social justice person brings racists in to be their head cheer leader? Losers who want it all at someone else's ex pense and freedom. What losers
26. Please lower the cost of living - it is an impossible life !
(09.04.11)
27. KIKAR HAMEDINA TONIGHT
RONA KRUGER   (09.03.11)
WHY DID THE TV STATIONS CUT OFF DAPHNA SPEAKING TONIGHT?????????????
28. Masses rally for social justice 400,000 protesters
mark ,   modiin Israel   (09.04.11)
Try 300 in Modiin. Maybe 5,000 in Jerusalem...maybe. 60,000 in TA maybe. The wacky Left should be taking care of the REAL poor, not preaching "social justice" for people who should be working like the rest of us. The news media should stop inflating numbers because it's politically correct.
29. ''we are the new israelis'' what does it means ???
(09.04.11)
30. "Lefties" can't get 400,000 Israelis to the streets
Itai   (09.04.11)
The "Lefties" in Israel are a small minority. They are not capable of getting 400,000 people to go out to the streets in a country of only 7 million. This has been going own for two months because behind it is real pain and real needs of the majority of Israelis.
