2. Well done, a step in the right direction
Egypt can't allow terrorists to take over the Sinai peninsula. It's bad for business, and no tourist will want to meet Jihadists while traveling there.
Also, if they don't clear it now, it will stab them in the back when the cells become more powerful.

A really deep channel between Gaza and the Sinai, this way cutting off all of these tunnels and preventing them from building news ones.

a great number of those tunnels were dug before 1967 for smuggling when Gaza was designed as a Free Trade Zone. Those were already there AFTER 1967!
