31. Erdogan is not Turkey.
Nathan Rai ,   Bangalore   (09.07.11)
Could we not equate Turkey with this jihadi is a business suit we know as Erdogan. Lets not get into UN logic that the volume of noise is directly proportionate to the truth in what is being said. Yes there will always be jihadis like there will always be rabies. Both are curable. If we stop justifying their existence at the UN and at home.
32. #22 funny
Iranian Jew ,   LA   (09.07.11)
It's a real funny post. You could have done the same and became somone had you not listened to your lover boy Araffat. Oh! you mean the guy who was born in Cairo, went to Jordan and got kicked out and then ran to WB to get it on with boys and then died of AIDS ? Dude! Stop the hate and try to co-exist WITH US even though it's tougher for you now since the bridges are burned.
33. Turkey is running like a Turkey w/o
Iranian Jew ,   LA   (09.07.11)
the head now. Trying to please all Arabs and west at the same time will not work. You gotta choose a side or you will get burned both ways. This article is great by the way.
34. 16 i dont believe the Turks stormed and killed the Struma
David   (09.07.11)
passangers...there is no tit for tat here idiot..
35. This is all you've come up with!
Omer ,   Melbourne Australia   (09.07.11)
I thought that you could do better than this lame article, first of all Turkey currently has any intereset in entering the so called almighty borderline bankrupt christian EU, Turkey is an economic powerhouse on its own and will be like this for years to come, so get ready for the new Ottoman/Turkish empire, Northern Cyprus and? what we already have 30+ countries speaking Turkish and more to come. Europe doesn\'t yet understand how it needs Turkey in the EU as much or more than Turkey needs the EU. Turkey provides Europe with much of its oil and natural gas through the Caspian basin, Russia, and eventually, from the Turkic Republics of Central Asia. So who does Israel have as an ally....a nation of rednecks which is going to into recession anyway! Israel will soon be alienated, so israel get ready for a life alone.....
36. turkey
samuel wagman ,   louisville,ky   (09.07.11)
An interesting article that shows how quickly things can change on the international arena in the Middle East. Turkey should be aware they have other vulnerabilities that Israel could exploit if they continue their provocation of the Jewish States. The Kurdistan thorn in the Turkish side is something they may want to consider before pushing Jerusalem to hard.
37. Thank to #16
F. Dotan ,   CANADA   (09.07.11)
I lost 2 cousins on STRUMA all because the Turks did not care about their life
38. #27 What wiorld? What world are you talking about?
russel ,   usa   (09.07.11)
Syria, Turkey, Iran, Iraq...this is your world. FYI, the only country that matters is the US of A. The Turkish arrogance brought the Ottomans to the miserable position many times in the past and it is happening again.
39. The author has forgotten to mention that
Dan ,   USA   (09.07.11)
hardly anyone likes Turkey in the area. 1. The Greeks. They hate Turkey. 2. The Kurds. hate Turkey. 3. The Armenians. hate Turkey. 4. The Bulgarians hate Turkey. The last thing Turkey needs is an adversarial Israel in the South and a confrontation with the US congress. It is coming! The stupid Turkish arrogance will be very costly to the Ottomans.
40. #27 & 28, Borek and Anton
Ben ,   Chutzlaaretz   (09.07.11)
I won't disagree the the Author is a just a propaganda tool. But what is true beyond his analysis is that your current government is using Israel hate for political reasons. The Muslim street likes to bash the Jew/Isreal. That policy works for Muslim politicians everywhere. The really sad truth is that in the process of demonizing Israel he has put Turkey in the bad position of supporting Hamas, a terrorist organization and aligning Turkey with Iran. I can't imagine today's modern and intelligent Turks are going to allow themselves to be used as Iranian tools for too long. I love Turkey and the Turkish people. Seeing what your government has done to your country makes me sad.
41. Turkey? Horse feathers!
(09.07.11)
Don't fly Turkish Airlines, don't buy Turkish ANYTHING, protest to the manager of the supermarket or any other store where Turkish products are sold, don't go to Turkey on holiday, don't go to Turkey for business, hold Turkey responsible for the injuries inflicted on IDF soldiers by IHH terrorists aboard the Mavi Marmara and demand reparations, and DON'T BACK DOWN!
42. #37
Borek ,   TURKEY   (09.07.11)
Sometimes A BAD DESTINY is a DESTINY. We can't change it. How can you blame Turks for the Struma. Many Turks have saved Jews. No one had accepted Jewish ships, even USA. Japanese were searching to kill Jews in China. After the fall of Constantinople, Sultan has accepted only 2 nations, Armenian stone workers and Spanish Inquisition Jews (who were being brutaly killed because of circumcision and HOLY resistance on Singularity of the HaShem) Go and blame industrialized Deutschland, not us. Greek Jews (Ottoman Salonica Jews) unfortunately were not lucky as Jews of Turkey. During the second war, Thanks to Ismet Inonu (the Secular Leader that Islamofascists hate still) We were hungry, extremely poor but we didnt see any Nazi boots and their evil trains. Are you collaborating with Erdogan against Legendry Secular Leader Ismet Inonu(RIP) ??
43. Exactly. Erdogan and Lieberman brothers in mind.
berlonski ,   berlin   (09.07.11)
Poor Turkey. Poor Israel.
44. Correction
Davit ,   Armenia   (09.07.11)
Mr. Yishay, I agree with all the points you are trying to make but I would like to make correction in a statement about Turkey's reconciliation with Armenia. US pressed Turkey to open the borders and start the ties with Armenia without PRECONDITIONS. The negotiation process has started, then Turkey comes back with a new agreement where it makes demands about Karabakh. This is where Armenia refused to ratify it. Remember, the reconciliation should have been without preconditions as it has been stated before but Turkey's government acted up as usual.
45. to 22
dr daniel mostrel ,   paris tel aviv   (09.07.11)
you hate Israel ; you call tel aviv city of palestine? Israel is here and a jewish state , tel avivians are mostly jews and proud israeli citizens; if you don't like it , you can pack and go away
46. what a low level
Yorgos Vlahos ,   athens greece   (09.07.11)
Very low analysis in general. And to compare the mad guy threatening your country with your own Foreign Minister is disgusting. Even if we both disagree with his style, I would have never crossed this line. Liberman is your brother, elected, and I think I prefer his style to yours.
47. #25
Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (09.07.11)
By that time Britain will be under sharia law whereas Israel will have still be around even without US help. We Israelis can be very tough and very enterprising when we have our backs to the wall, unlike you softies in the west.
48. Disgusting insult to Lieberman
David ,   NJUSA   (09.07.11)
49. Asim from UK
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (09.07.11)
If western capital pulls out of the Istanbul market (IMKB) the Turkish economy will collapse. If USA ends the loan guarantees to Turkey it wil go back to the point when the Turkish treasury was in need of 70 cents as once PM Bulent Ecevit had said.
50. Anton believe me when I say
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (09.07.11)
That Israel has a lot more credibility that Turkey in the western world. Turkey has been considered as an untrustworthy country since 2003.
51. Turkey has biggest military in region
theox ,   dc,usa   (09.07.11)
let's see...2nd biggest military in NATO (after US), 1 million standing Army, ~16th largest economy in the world and growing, has spy satellites, domestic made drones, receiving F35s, NATO radars (not just against Iran), US bases and nuke installations, strongest navy in Mid East, oh, and 1000 years of military tradition and expertise. Maybe Erdogan is not "thug" but a trice elected leader who is in charge of nation that can take on all of its neighbors combined. If you look at recent history, it took ALL of Middle East and the Entire West to take down the Ottoman EMpire. Israel can't even reign in a unarmed civilian ship without civilian casualties. If Israel is counting on the US, everybody here is sick of war. Not to mention, nukes are useless against a Naval campaign, and no way US will let Israel unleash that on Turks anyway. Even if Israel could nuke Turkey off the map, any attack en route is sufficent enough to return the favor. Israel might rethink their strategy of trying to insult, humilate, and belittle the Turks. There's nothing in it for them. ONly more of this rhetoric. An apology is not too late as the Turkish saying goes, retreat from a losing battle is a victory.
52. 50 - believe you?..why?...seems you are not
David   (09.07.11)
exactly grounded or connected to reality.. According to all reports Turkey is an emerging power classified together with China, India and Brazil...while Israel is being mentioned more and more with N. Korea... Wake up and smell the coffee...
53. Turkey aims to be the regional power
Demetris ,   Limassol Cyprus   (09.07.11)
Erdogan aims to control and monopolize oil and gas supply to Europe thus strengthening Turkey's position as the main Eastern Mediterranean regional power. Is this in line with USA, European, Israel, Arab interests?
54. hah....
socius ,   Calgary, canada   (09.07.11)
Iran is no friend of turkey. There were some bumps along the way but the decision to join the NATO euro-shield against Iran while they still refuse them entry into the EU just screwed turkey over. That and starting a fight with Israel right now. So lets see: 1) The EU doesn't want turkey included 2) Iran doesn't like turkey for accepting the missile shield deal with NATO 3) Iran is the major beneficiary of the Arab spring and has large influence over all of turkeys neighbours 4) turkey is in a diplomatic fight with Israel as well, and therefor is also upsetting the united states. the problem is that turkey thought/thinks too highly of itself and ended up losing on all fronts because of its delusion of importance. Say what you will about Iran and their government but they are brilliant when it comes to power and influence in the region. Turkey shouldn't try to play ball with the big boys of the region which are Israel and Iran.
55. #17 on #2
Serge ,   Lyon   (09.07.11)
Very good answer! It should shut up this ignorent eporue!
56. Islamists boarded Turkey, on course to sink her.
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (09.07.11)
57. turkey, is stronger than you think.
Leonardo ,   England   (09.08.11)
Most of your post unrealistic. The Cyprus problem was solved many years ago. Israeli navy, is not strong enough to fight the Turks with his fleet. Kurds, Greeks, and Armenians hate the Turks. Despite all the goodwill of the Turks, Turks in a difficult situation trying to leave the false pretense.Scientific research has revealed that the allegations were unfounded. As for sanctions, Turkish nationals, were massacred in international waters. Israel's government, already had to think of the consequences. A stepped process, the new sanctions, be ready.
58. Wishful thinking at its peak!
Oliver ,   Sydney   (09.08.11)
A quick Google search is enough to show that Turkey is a regional powerhouse: 6th Largest military in the world (2nd only to the US in NATO) Turkey is a nuclear weapons sharing country of NATO and Pakistan 16th largest economy in the world. Highest growth per year amongst the OECD countries Controls 90% of the oil and gas pipelines into Europe. People need to be objective.Bias and wishful thinking do not alter the facts.
59. Lol about EU failure
Almir ,   Sarajevo, Bosnia   (09.09.11)
loool, only complete amateur would think that Erdogan ever really wanted to join EU. EU was a great chance for Erdogan and AKP to bring many laws that would put secular military leaders powerless... and that's exactly what happened when they resigned few weeks ago...
