21 Arab amies attacked Israel with British support, with the aim of destroying Israel. The failed but Jordan succeeded in occupying the west bank (the origins of the name occupied territory) and Egypt occupied Gaza.

Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (09.09.11)
of a joke than the UN is now, a COMPLETE joke and you thought the League of Nations was a farce. Imagine creating a state for a people who will not recognize Israel. This gives a whole new meaning to stupidity.

Could you please identify the Palestinian Country before 1948.
7. negotiations
steve ,   uk   (09.09.11)
Negotiations and talks get you no where. History of this dispute shows us that you can talk for decades. Time is not in Israels hands, I blame this on a disasterous israeli government.
8. Who will be the Jewish Frederik Willem de Klerk
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (09.09.11)
The Israeli leader that surrenders power to the Arab majority in Palestine Israel.
9. Israel is best served by another Palestine statehood fiasco.
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.09.11)
The worst thing Israel can do is negotiate with the terrorist P.A. The P.A. proudly admits the new terror state would be used to help it destroy Israel. Far from hiding their genocidal intentions, the P.A. shouts them out every chance it gets. Israel is best served by another Palestine statehood fiasco. There was one in 1988. We must assure the upcoming statehood proclamation is an even bigger fiasco. Than Palestine will lose all credibility. Nobody will ever take it seriously again.
10. A UDI on someone else's land
BH ,   Iowa   (09.09.11)
is a declaration of war. Abu Mazen better be careful what he wishes for....
11. Where were they, these politicians?
Joe Asfoor ,   Burke, USA   (09.09.11)
I am really having a good laugh ...seeing how some Israeli politicians have suddenly discovered the urge for peace. Where were they when the entire world was begging them to give peace a chance. Are you now surprised that you are being jolted at this stage.?
12. final nail to peace?
IRV ,   USA   (09.09.11)
13. UN Vote Won't Bring Peace
Samer ,   West Bank   (09.09.11)
Only endless negotiations while Israel builds illegal settlements and changes the facts on the ground can bring peace.
14. Death of the Peace Process
Samer ,   West Bank   (09.09.11)
Oh no, this is the end of the pretend "peace process" which has gone nowhere for 20+ years and achieved nothing except massive illegal settlement building in the West Bank and ethnic cleansing of Arab E. Jerusalem. How sad.
15. RE Jarda
Josh ,   Jerusalem   (09.09.11)
Yes they did. The Palestinians said no and went to war and they lost.
16. Well said Steve #7
Ken ,   Burma   (09.09.11)
Israel does not want to negotiate, never has , never will. Time for Israelis to get back on their side of the border or become part of Palestine, just like the Arab Israelis have become part of Israel.
17. #6
Jarda ,   Czech Republic   (09.09.11)
And? Do you mean that Palestinians didn't live in Palestine?

19. Islam and peace ...
Jules   (09.09.11)
... with "dhimmis"are an impossible combination. After 20 years of fraud imposed on the Jewish people, Israel IS BACK.

Jarda ,   Czech Republic   (09.09.11)
As they constitute a vast majority of population, they were right. They should decide the future of Palestine. Not UN, no immigrants.
21. #8 I left the NEW South Africa for good reason
Rebecca ,   Modiin   (09.09.11)
While FW De Klerk did what was inevitable there, there's no place for anyone like him here.
22. when will the Israelis wake up to the fact that the Muslims
Ben ,   Australia   (09.09.11)
only goal is Israels destruction! Wake up and read the Torah!
23. Ken at #16
Alan ,   Israel   (09.09.11)
The proposal Palestinian state will not tolerate Jews living there. Hence, there is no option for them living there as Arabs do in Israel. The Palestinians (Abbas included) have stated this very clearly. They are using loaded words like "apartheid" in PR in support of creating the real thing. Why and how world leaders and media ignore this is a profoundly disturbing question.
24. #7. Fictional Palestine is about to blow sky high.
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.09.11)
#7. "Palestinians" are desperate because they know time is 100% on Israel's side. Their 1988 statehood was an absolute fiasco and their upcoming one will be an even bigger fiasco. Decades of plotting to create a Palestine on the ashes of Israel have gotten them nowhere. Meanwhile, Israel grows richer and stronger every year. And now Israel is about to become a major energy power. We are witnessing the last desperate bid for fictional Palestine; and as every casino owner knows; desperate money always loses. Fictional Palestine is about to blow sky high.
