I agree with Yair Lapid.
2. americans are too busy playing
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (09.09.11)
Americans are too busy playing their digital games than to think. Their leaders follow the people and tell them what they think they want to hear. Original thinking that has nothing to do with the ipad ipod or ifirst is worthless to an American and so they sink into their own stupidity. G-d tried to wake them up..
3. Not all people...
Jon ,   Baltimore US   (09.09.11)
try to go back and reclaim land their ancestors left 2000 years ago, telling the modern residents that it is rightfully theirs because God gave it to them. Even if your ancestors were forced out of the area by Romans, Babylonians or whoever, how does that justify you doing the same thing centuries later ? Most of the world doesn't get it.
4. #2 Larry

I suggest you get a copy of "Amusing Ourselves to Death" by Neil Postman. It addresses the very subject you did.
5. Inarticulate President?
Todd ,   Los Angeles USA   (09.09.11)
George Bush was hardly inarticulate on 9/11. On a day of great distress, we all--conservatives, moderates, liberals--found comfort in the words of our "country bumpkin." And on the next day when he stood on the ruined remains of a fire truck among the fallen heaps of buildings, he gave us words that echo in our minds today: "I can hear you! The rest of the world hears you! And the people -- and the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon!" We had the right president at the right time. It is not Americans per se that have misunderstood the message of 9/11. It is the liberals who, in their postmodern understanding (oxymoron?) believe peace is possible if you just capitulate enough, if you just hold no value too tight. For all their beautiful words (read from ubiquitous teleprompters) liberals have lulled us into complacency and danger and given us a Gatsby hope, a rock apart from G-d to hold to in times of trouble. But we, like Gatsby, have seen that the liberal's "rock of the world was founded securely on a fairy's wing."

pretty good article yair.
7. Why are the Neocons comming back?
Chris.B ,   Australia   (09.09.11)
8. We know they dont
Jonny ,   Cape Town   (09.09.11)
They are brought up in such an insular society that they think everyone is like them. BUT, given the total lack of understanding by their so called "experts" they want to tell Israel how to handle the middle eastern situation from a position of zero knowledge or perception of what makes the people tick. Dumb and Dumber
9. Many Americans see it as an aberration
Isaac Storm   (09.09.11)
I think that some people in the US, like Obama, look at 9/11 as an aberration and are not willing to see anything else.
10. Americans are clueless
Joe ,   Fort Lauderdale, USA   (09.09.11)
Americans don't understand that the Muslim world wants us dead and the extent of their determination. They don't understand that from birth, the Islamic world is taught to hate the West and hate Israel and hate Jews and hate, and hate and hate, and to kill, kill, and kill. That's all they know. It's in the Koran, so they MUST do this. That's all they know. They can't be rehabilitated. They're brainwashed about going to paradise FROM BIRTH. There's no rewind button on this, folks. Obama surely defends the enemy and talks about the "beauty" of Islam and the BS that it's a peaceful religion. Nicholas Berg and Danny Pearl would beg to differ on the matter. Americans don't understand the enemy is already in the US, trying hard to plan our deaths. That's what they do for a living, and they're not going to stop until we're all dead. But we're too POLITICALLY CORRECT here in the US. Give the 95 year old woman in a wheelchair the full pat-down the airport, but let Achmed Jihad who appears nervous pass right through without being asked a single question. The enemy exploits the US daily and we Americans keep defending them.
11. The winter of discontent.
John Prophet   (09.09.11)
A coordinated increase of hostilities by Islamic States towards Israel is well under way. Increasingly, as the Palestinians move on the UN, the pressure on Israel by Turkey, Iran and her proxies Hamas and Hezbollah will spike. Syria, with the Assad government on the brink, will blame Zionist elements for her problems and threaten Israel with all out war. The Furies once released will not be easily contained! None of Israel's antagonist fear America which they see in decline while seeing the Middle East Caliphate in ascension. The Islamic States in the Middle East will be jockeying for position for leadership of the new Caliphate, and trashing Israel will be their focus in their desire to show the Islamic world their worthiness for the leadership role.
12. Not All as NUTS as Bush
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (09.09.11)
Unlike most American families, mine has been at war from that day to the present. Three of my kids have served and one still does. Bush was a bleeping idiot and mismanaged from that day forward. He lied us into another war that is still not over. Yes, we went out and did as Bush said, we spent ourselves into oblivion as a country. But since then, we have elected some more rational people, and some less, too. And we do have some who, like Ron Paul, understand why we got attacked. A shame he's only right on that issue. Now you can continue to tell us how we are stupid and irrational. And maybe we will tire of being told how stupid we are. It does wear thin after a decade of being told it constantly. Maybe you can tell us next how to cut off the elderly, sick, and infirm to pay for our follies, too.
13. We Americans
Julie Singer ,   Rocky Hill, U.S.   (09.09.11)
I only wish that we Americans could be so unified that a columnist such as Mr. Lapid could legitimately use such a broad brush to evoke what we think and feel as the 10th anniversary of our national tragedy approaches. Mr. Lapid, I'm glad you weren't on one of the planes that hit the towers. Our airline security is much better these days. Maybe you should fly over again, spend some time here, and meet some more Americans who do not fit the pathetic stereotype you portray.
14. We get it
Jessica ,   USA   (09.09.11)
Americans get it. We know there is an Islamic threat that wants to cut all our throats and destroy us and our country in a very real way. Our leadership (both parties) does not understand the existential threat and is not willing to engage in what is known as "total war" (think WWII) to extinguish it. Will it take a nuked or bio-attacked city to engage them? Yes.
15. Americans don't get it and to #2
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (09.09.11)
For an Israeli to say that "Americans don't get it," is hilarious. Based on the present situation and never-ending BS, Israel "hasn't been getting it" since Abraham and, from all indications, will continue "not to get it' until another disaster puts an end to yet another Israel, for which its leaders, once again, blame the citizenry for not following the letter of some irrelevant Book which, given a close look, is a 3500 year long litany of "don't get its." It's not that we, Americans, "don't get it." Most of us don't give a flying flip what goes on in some other corner of the world, how they allow themselves to be treated and/or treat each other. We would simply prefer to be left alone, and not get rooked into the messes of countries, most of us don't care to even Google. What we "have gotten" over the years is the sad fact that nothing and nobody can help people, who refuse to help themselves. Now, if we can only convince our politicians to get that.... To #2: Why does almost half the Jewish population of the world, including you, choose not to "get it" in the US than in Israel??? Maybe, instead of a Torah, you need a Constitution and a Bill of Rights! Most people living in this country, Jews included, seem to prefer to hitch their wagons to exactly what “we got” in those 2 documents. It seems that some other people's stoning, hiding women under rags, and swinging chickens was definitely no longer “getting any of it,.” at all. You seem to forget, too, who invented most of those digital games. You must not expect that we "get" hypocrisy, either. To put it succinctly and all our home-grown religious nuts notwithstanding, if it doesn't affect us now, will screw us over tomorrow and for years to come, we simply don't give a rat's ass and that's not the same as “not getting it.”

18. Policing the borders of America instead of other countries
Rivkah   (09.09.11)
would help to protect America, but the Vatican wants America's Protestant and Jewish populations diluted with Hispanic Roman Catholics, Islamics, Hindus, prepositonsed troops of enemies and other subversives who will join in the slaughter of Jews and Protestants when the Pope gives the signal to do so.

22. And the MAD doctrine does not apply to all either
Mladen Andrijasevic ,   Be'er Sheva   (09.09.11)
Surprisingly, not many seem to realize and never mentions that when it comes to Iran then the doctrine of mutual assured destruction which had prevented a nuclear war from erupting during the Cold War is now dead. Nobody seems to take any notice of what one of the leading scholars of Islam, Bernard Lewis, said: “ With these people, with their apocalyptic mindset, mutual assured destruction is not a deterrent, it is an inducement”. Why is that? MAD Is Dead: http://madisdead.blogspot.com/

Arn. ,   Sweden.   (09.09.11)
2 Tess 2 - 7For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now holdeth back will hold him back, until he is taken out of the way. 8And then shall that wicked one be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of His mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of His coming-- 9even him, whose coming is according to the working of Satan, with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10and with all the deceit of unrighteousness in those who perish, because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie, 12that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. A perfect example of why the majority of the planet is united in believing that: Israeli = *sshole No wonder the nations gather to put the zap on you in the UN.
27. The irony is staggering.

An Israeli trying to use the denseness of Americans to his national advantage.
28. Sometimes I Agree With Lapid But This Is The Stupidest ...
World Citizen ,   the world   (09.09.11)
Article He's Ever Written. Go to any number of American websites and I think you will find a growing number of Americans "who get it". They know that Jewish neo-cons in the Bush administration did everything in their power to suck the USA into fighting wars for Jewish hegemony in the Middle East. They know that this is still going on. Hence the warmongering on Iran, Pakistan, Libya, Yemen and the Sudan. They know that some of their veterans live on the streets, children go to bed hungry and millions have no health care but the US congress still gives billion in aid to the apartheid state of Israel. And most importantly they know that a growing body of evidence indicates that the Israeli government at the very least, knew beforehand about the 911 attacks or actively facilitated them. There is a good chance that Mohammad Atta thought he was working for Osama Bin Laden, but unknowingly working for the Mossad. I know Ynet won't print my post because they don't want the Israeli people to know what a large percentage of the world already thinks. Yent wants to keep the Israeli people in the dark. That way they can play the "It's Anti-Semitism" card forever. Sad because it is only going to make it that much harder for the average Israeli understand what is really happening around them.
29. True
American ,   USA   (09.09.11)
Most Americans don't get it that 9/11 happened because of our extreme bias in favor of Israel. However, they are starting to comprehend.
