1. I believe the PLO have to apply and not the PA
michael redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (09.16.11)
As I understand it. The PLO represents the PA internationally as is touched on in this article, "The body representing the Palestinians at the United Nations is the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), not the Palestinian Authority". And the PLO to the best of my knowledge is not in favor of any submission at this time. I stand ready to be corrected ;-)
2. A question to the experts...(seriously speaking)
Eyal ,   Brazil   (09.16.11)
what with the territory? i mean... the territory which is meant to be declared as "Palestine" is the disputed land within the green line... there are settlers living there, and Israel will not "accept" this unilateral declaration of independence... what happens next??? is Israel theoreticaly obligated to accept this new country and that's it? what would happen with the settlers??
3. and something else on this matter - the settlers...
eporue ,   europe   (09.16.11)
...could they be pulled to the ICC too, in case of successful UN SC bid or UN GA... what are, in what vote, or proposal (EU eg) the consequences for the people on the ground in the west bank ? what rights might they have against the state of israel in this case ? were they ever told, that they might commit a war crime or supporting one, when they move to the west bank ? could they sue the state of israel, for alternative housing within the green line then ? were they ever told by the state, before moving there, that this is against intl law, or at least that it "might" violate such ? a lot of the settlers might not have relocated from the US (or other states), if they had known their action commits or is part of an intl crime... what are there options against the state of israel ?
4. UNGA-377 could make Obama look even more foolish
Dave ,   UK   (09.16.11)
If the Arabs uses UGA-377 to over-ride the US veto, the US will have been humiliated TWICE in the UN on the same item. Even more humiliating for the US is, the US originally developed UNGA-377 to over-ride a veto by the Soviets. The US will be shafted by their own spear.
5. What about Rule 136
GZLives   (09.16.11)
"UN Rule 136 If the Security Council recommends the applicant State for membership, the General Assembly shall consider whether the applicant is a peace-loving State and is able and willing to carry out the obligations contained in the Charter and shall decide, by a two-thirds majority of the members present and voting, upon its application for membership." Specifically "the General Assembly shall consider whether the applicant is a peace-loving State" How do they reconcile this with Hamas in their unity government? Peace loving?? And now with the PLO stating it intends to ethnically cleans the Jews and homosexuals, how does that meet the standard of "peace loving" ?

Settlers to live in Palestine and under the PA. Israel knows that very well since more than 15 years and all the big guys in IDF agrees on that.
7. #2
Henry from New York ,   USA   (09.16.11)
That's one of those things people don't think about before starting all this stuff up. Probably going to not end well though, I'll say that much.
8. UNGA-377

Eyal ,   Brazil   (09.16.11)
hmmm but is the PA willing to accept them as part of palestine? is it a commem sense??? i don't believe settlers would accept it as well.... :-S ay ay ay why does everything have to be so complicated? hehe
10. UN resolution 377 - Uniting for Peace
Isaac Storm   (09.16.11)
Abbas will probably take the resolution for statehood to the UNSC. Hopefully, Israel will have at least 7 votes in the UNSC vote no, abstain, or absent themselves. If the US just vetoes the resolution, Abbas can claim lack of unanimity and take the resolution to the UNGA under resolution 377 - uniting for peace. If he receives a two-thirds majority, the resolution will pass. What could be the effect? Multi-nation boycott of Israel. Even attempts to use the international court. Therefore, it is very important that the US and Israel stop the resolution in its tracks at the security council and have at least 7 countries in the UNSC VOTE NO, ABSTAIN, OR ABSENT THEMSELVES.
11. UN membership divided into two categories, fools and pigs.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (09.16.11)
Fools would included the US and Israel for giving this collective bunch of bureaucrats enough money to buy a cheeseburger and pigs would included all the anti-Semitic scum that permanently vote against Israel just because Jews are involved. Move the UN to France where it belongs.

Rob ,   UK   (09.16.11)
Lol! So what are the PA police going to do? Arrest settlers who don't recognise the jurisdiction of the new "state" they're living in? Maybe they'd like to try to arrest the Israeli army there too!

Gregg ,   Haifa, IL   (09.16.11)
Settlers will become Palestinians and will be subjected to Palestinian Laws if they are so attached to this piece of land
14. no 2-3
H ,   australia   (09.16.11)
The ICC is supposed to deal with only the "most serious crimes of concern to the international community." (see ICC website - About page) and only the senior people most responsible. The average person living in their house wouldn't be the target of an indictment. Senior guys like defence ministers however will need to be careful and surely already know the risks.
15. re: experts
Attilashrugs ,   Hartford USA   (09.17.11)
Seriously, who would you recognize as being an expert in this "field"? What IS the field in which the expertise would be considered? The field of The Jewish Question? Why is it presumed it would be legally, and morally OK for a new state Palestine to rid itself of its Jewish population? Yet, is this not the very goal of the PLO/PA? A Judenrein Shomron and Judea. But the Israeli Arabs are full citizens of Israel with all the rights and privileges of Jews. Would the world be so complacent if upon the Arab expulsion of Jews from the "West Bank" , Israel expelled the tens of thousands of Israeli-Arabs? Somehow, I doubt it!
