1. Who cares about the ICC
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.15.11)
We are not subject to the ICC and it is not an issue. The issue is thieving Arab terrorists getting our lands and trying to commit genocide. Not apartheid organizations.
2. less stubborn, we could find a solution.
Salma ,   Palestine   (09.15.11)
Ultimately Netanyahu will accept a freeze on settlement construction in the West Bank including East Jerusalem . Palestine cause is the keyword to restore calm with the neighbors ( egypt, turkey, Jordan and even Syria ) after the storm......unless you're looking for a tempest.
3. left unclear....
rob ,   Orangevale Ca. USA   (09.15.11)
Ynet:"Such a step, the diplomats claimed, will enable them to file lawsuits against Israeli officials and IDF personnel." My Question is: If after being admitted to the UN, won't Israel have the same right's to legal proceedings against so-called military commanders and 'officials' of the new state of "Whatever they call themselves"? Never mind, the ambiguous question lends to itself the answer. Direct negotiations or annexation. Pick, ersatz 'Palis". Shalom, Rob
4. icc
steve ,   usa   (09.15.11)
unfortunately,it could become an issue. The ICC can issue arrest warrants for those it considers on trial for war crimes. The Pals can go there now but have better standing there once the UNGA upgrades them. Israel is not a party to the ICC (the USA isn't either) so it cannot ask the court to sue the pals. Finally, it's a court that has tried one case in its history but it's a politically motivated court, an unknown. Therefore, it's trouble. Moreover, the Pals would harass ISrael by suing every known soldier or govt official who served in combat or decisionmaking for the last 10 years.
5. @2 oh yeah, we believe...
rob ,   Orangevale Ca. USA   (09.15.11)
it's the real Salma. How weak must you be to use her as your mouth. Salma may not be very smart but at least she IS Salma. Anyone that muddles thru the real Salma can tell in a moment that you, foul one, are a fake. Hello Salma, now say something smart about your cause, you could actually help being the voice of the 'common' ersatz Palestinian Shalom Israel, Rob
6. Salma @ 2, you give your cause too much credit.
leo ,   usa   (09.16.11)
Nobody cares and yes, I'd love to see this tempest of yours. Who knows, you might even move east of Jordan river during that Jordanian unrest or south of Sinai border during that Egyptian one.
7. #5 belive it or not
Salma ,   Palestine   (09.16.11)
#2 is the real Salma . hello rob, by the way : ) sorry Ynet, I had to comment again before going to bed, okay now really good night ; )
8. attila somflavi- "un show-down etc..."
sjoerd ruurd van der ,   mankindnation/land   (09.16.11)
if the palestinian people want to have a united nations organization membership, ot the un international criminal court, of the international court of justice, etc..., it is their own decision, it is their own good right etc...
9. Palestinian State Bid
nadya ,   Garden Grove, CA.,US   (09.16.11)
This article makes no sense, they already have enough support to go the General Assembly, why should they give up the right to go to the ICC??
10. So, it boiles down that Israel main opposition
Daniel ,   NYC   (09.16.11)
to Pal.state is fear of the ICC. But Israel always claims that those settlements are legal....if they are what are they so afraid of the ICC?
11. UNWRA must be disbanded immediately upon
Harry Wright ,   UK   (09.16.11)
the granting of statehood to the Pals. It is inconceivable that a new state will be created where governmental activities like feeding the nation, healthcare and education etc will be provided by UNWRA. It is utter madness, irresponsibility and a huge joke to create a dependent state because statehood is about independence and self-sufficiency. It is time for all the countries that funnel money into that corrupt body called UNWRA to cease doing so immediately on the creation of this new state. As well, "refugee" status will cease to exist as the Pals cannot claim refugee status in their own country. Also, those scattered outside the territory will have a homeland. UNWRA will therefore be redundant. No refugees means no UNWRA.
12. steve #4 wrong
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.16.11)
The ICC cannot act against non-member states. Part of their charter. I also note that the US has long declared itself not answerable to the ICJ either.
13. Don't fall for the trap Abbas
SayNo ,   NYC   (09.16.11)
Don't you dare agree to this trap. Get the full status of a member like Vatican and drag their arse through the ICC.
14. Natanyahu is a man of courage
Samuel Prime ,   Canada   (09.16.11)
Natanyahu will be Israel's Daniel in these troubled and uncertain times. He will go and face the lions and put them in their place. Hashem be with him.
15. the palestinians have demonstrated time and time and time ag
jj   (09.16.11)
ain via their refusal of peace negotiations/offers over the last 60 years that they would not know "compromise" as the article suggests if it smacked them upside the head with a koran, I would love for that not to be the case, However, the evidence is overwhelming from date after date which could be listed for a peace offer not only outright refused but not even counteroffered by the arab palestinians; The sad thing is , is that many pals if they had their way as with the vast majority of israelis, would settle on a compromise . Unfortunately, palestinian leadership has let down their public time and time again often giving in to the fear, insecurity, hatred, prejudice, which dominated the arab and arab pal mantra from a time LONG before any "occupation"
16. So the palis can go to ICC
Ralph Haglund ,   Lund, Sweden   (09.16.11)
and Israel cannot. Ah well, if I were Israeli I would find another way. Like picking up every terrorist and guaranteee LONG stays in a prison camp. Israel should make a Guananamo-like camp just within the border of Gaza and put them there. I am sure UNRWA would happily feed them if Israel forgot. The alternative for the palis is to stop terror of course, wonder if they ever got that idea. And of course Israel should immediately stop USA from building up the palestinian army and ready it to attack the Jews.
17. Cats never like dogs; Deal with it.
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (09.16.11)
Peace lovers need to realise that Palestinians and Arabs, have had hate of jews drummed into them for the last 90 years on top of a bad start at Khaibar and ever since. Answer: Respect and suspect; stay well apart; They want to cleanse us from their midst; great. Let them go across the river and cleanse away. We made a mistake encouraging them to come in for jobs from the 1920's. Our fault, wanted to do more, better, quicker, cheaper. Now we pay. Gentle disengagement, don't please see it as apartheid. We are no Afrikaner, and Pals are no blacks. We are just not made to live in peace together. I do not want to be cleansed out of my home again in my lifetime.
18. Oslo is dead, road map is dead, jordan is home to "pals."
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (09.16.11)
19. #1 not the problem
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (09.16.11)
Israel's problem is not the ICC, but the UN security counsel. Netanyahu's insistence on an "end of conflict" meant that Abbas' dream of the negotiated extermination of the Jews won't happen. The Arab world, the Israeli Left and PLO funding sources are all disappearing. Abbas figures if he can get a UNSC declaration, any military attack and embargo on Israel will become legal, and this is without having to make any concessions. And this is where it gets interesting. Obama won't be reelected because of the US economy. Americans will remember him as the worst President no matter what he does. US critical interests are to veto an anti-Israel UNSC decision, but if he doesn't veto he will become a Saudi hero.
20. The dice for the EU to maintain united front, it a dead end
David ,   Chigwell   (09.16.11)
This is a mute point, It was made clear by several EU countries that the offer put by the EU foreign minister was not an offer she was authorise to make to either party, and no one with in the EU will support it, at least none of the major powers. I have heard that both China and Russia have already said they would veto the creation of another class of state at the UN. Making the deal a non starter anyway. An the Palestinians would be foolish to sign up to such a deal. An with out the Palestinian support it would never get through the general council.
21. Palestine state will never be born on promised land.
Jouko ,   Kuopio,Finland   (09.16.11)
GOD Himself will carry out His promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The palestinians are working in vain to get their state on Jewish land. I am not a prophet, but I know God has a means of carrying out His written will (Bible).
22. Cross Allenby Bridge and contest
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (09.16.11)
,,,for control of Jordan. there. You have your original Palestine. Make it as Jew Free as you please. I am sure that the "Little King" will make you as welcome as his Abba did in that Black September. Dampen your tosies in the river and dry they on the east side.
23. Let them join the ICC...then sue "Palestinians" into oblivio
William ,   Israel   (09.16.11)
24. What we need is EU to say NO to the Pallys
William ,   Israel   (09.16.11)
This bastard child called "Palestine" does nothing but whine and threaten everyone, and even if they don't get everything they still get something. What we need to see is the US and EU to say to the Pallys "NO. You must do THIS and THAT before we move forward to support you". They've done it to Israel and pressure them constantly but when it comes to the "Palestinians" it's like a fight to see who can love them more. You want to love them? Discipline them! The next "war" at the UN is inevitable if this isn't dealt with now. The West has a set demand - peaceful coexistence. If that's true, then demand Pallys become peaceful and demand NO land beyond negotiated borders is up for dispute anymore. It's over. The "Palestinians" have signed multiple agreements and never adhered to one of them. Despite the EU stating they want to see movement, they still sent them aid and provided free trade agreements without conditions. Must be part of that sentiment that diplomats candidly shared with journalists regarding their fear of retribution by Arabs if they don't vote in favor of a Pally terror State.
25. #2 - "Palestinians" were never the central cause for Arabs
William ,   Israel   (09.16.11)
No matter how you try to slice it, you're not the central cause for Arabs. That's evident through their constantly ignoring you to focus on their own problems, and their lack to ever follow-through on donation promises they've made. Oh, and if they did value "palestinians", you'd think they'd treat you better in their countries but you're stuck in forced refugee camps, blocked from citizenship and working in most jobs. You're just a step under migrant workers from Sudan. Chances are, we won't accept a freeze, except temporarily and only for building beyond the agreed natural expansion which Arafat signed in your name. And you'll be ready to accept non-1967 lines, a shared united Jerusalem, and no Right of Return.
26. #4 - you don't have to be a party to the ICC to sue
William ,   Israel   (09.16.11)
just one side needs to be a member for either side to bring a lawsuit against the other. Plus, in order for the ICC to issue an arrest warrant, they would need to go through initial deliberations to ensure that such an accusation is warranted with evidence. So far, most of the courts presented with similar claims around the world have dismissed them almost outright, and they are not as strict as the ICC.
27. #8 - if they're asking for others to accept them
William ,   Israel   (09.16.11)
then I guess it's not just their own decision and own right (to be UN member and ICC member)
28. #9 - because the UNGA holds nothing but symbolism
William ,   Israel   (09.16.11)
it's the UNSC they really want and the US stands in their way. This was an EU offer to help Abbas climb down from the tree he's stuck in. If they go to the ICC as a member, they risk being sued themselves - and there's enough evidence to jail half of "Palestine" at the moment. The PLO doesn't want that. Neither does Hamas.
29. #10 - Israel is not afraid of the ICC
William ,   Israel   (09.16.11)
This is the stance coming from Europe, not Jerusalem. The issue with going to the ICC is that Israel's hands would be tied in battling Arab terror. Which then means the entire West will have their hands tied when dealing with Islamic terror...and you know where that would lead, wouldn't you?
30. #13 - be careful what you wish for
William ,   Israel   (09.16.11)
being an ICC member also leaves them vulnerable to lawsuits. "Palesitnian" terror has hit many people from many different nationalities. What's to keep a global class action lawsuit from appearing to sue the PLO, Hamas, PRC, PLFP, and host govts like Lebanon and Syria thanks to the "Palestinians" opening the legal door? Israel has a ton of evidence on them all, and lots of legality in the actions it takes against Arab terror. No wonder why so many lawsuits brought forth by Arabs/Leftists around the world against Israel were rejected by the courts. Kuwait just pulled their lawsuit against Israel knowing they'd lose and be publicly humiliated and ordered to pay millions. Go ahead Abbas - make our day.
