31. If Israel isn't the national homeland of the Jews...
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (09.19.11)
...then it follows that "Palestine" is not the national homeland of the "Palestinians." For a very complicated, age-old conflict, it does indeed boil down to these two simple sentences. If the Palestinians want us to accept that "Palestine" is their national homeland, then they must accept Israel as the national homeland of the Jewish people. Otherwise, maybe it is indeed a foregone conclusion that there really is no such thing as the "Palestinian people" - which more and more appears to be a late 20th century creation produced by a propaganda campaign and nothing else.
32. Screw you Chris. B
Jerome ,   NZ   (09.19.11)
They are unwilling to recognise Israel as a Jewish state. And I am tired of being submitted to your Christian calendar. Why should you use your annual holidays to smoke pot in Bali and I have to spend them at the synagogue. In my Jewish state I have both my annual holidays and my statutory holydays. You ain't shitting roses!
33. #14: PA won't ALLOW Jews in their future "state"
The Chai Life ,   USA   (09.19.11)
But no mention of "ethnic" prejudice for that? You call the pals Arabs, clumping whole different cultures into one category...but the Jews are an exception to your hypocrisy? Abbas said "not one Jew will live or be allowed on 'our' land---that's not ethnic barbarism? Your ignorance reveals just how vulnerable human being with NO education are to lies and propaganda. You shame the human race. One more thing: "ethnic cleansing" u spoke of? Over a million Arab/Palestinians live in Israel and have EQUAL rights there, MORE rights and freedoms than Any Arabic nation in the ME and FAR more respect from the Jews than their own 'brothers' who refuse to grant them work permits in their countries or give them citizenship when they move to an Arabic nation. Indeed...there are NO Arab/Palestinian refugees: there are just Arab/Palestinians the entire Arabic collective OPENLY REJECTED TO THIS DAY. Get a clue
34. Israel Not as a Jewish State? Abbas can drop dead!
mary of Bethany ,   singapore   (09.19.11)
"the meeting ended several hours later due to Abbas' refusal to recognize Israel as a Jewish State?" not as Jewish State? then as what state? the 24th arab State with Jewish majority? is that what you want? why can't the folly world see thru' all these? the whole saga is turning into a draggy stupid story that keep rewinding and replay the same ploy again & again.... yawn.... the absurdity of watching the quartet hijacked by Islamization and Leftists, in panicky cuddling and pacifying the arabs is worse than watching Mr Bean's show! (4 Beans dancing around a brown bear!)
35. Abbas
Debbie ,   Israel   (09.19.11)
Let me be sure I understand this correctly: If the above article is accurate, Abbas urges Israel to recognize a Palestinian state, and not give up the chance to achieve peace. In the same breath (according to above article). he refuses to recognize Israel as a Jewish state. In other words, he refuses to recognize Israel. Can anyone explain the logic behind this?
36. Abbas
Debbie ,   Israel   (09.19.11)
MICHEAEL REBURN, I don't understand your statement that the Palestinians will lose all international funding if they become a state. Where did you hear that? Why would they lose funding? This is absolutely not true. The international community will continue to pour funds into this "entity" until they are sucked dry, without demanding an accounting as to where the money is going, or what it is used for. This is exactly what they have done until now. And the Pali leaders will continue to squirrel away the money, and line their own pockets. Wherever did you get the idea that this will change?
37. Mission Impossible
zichron   (09.19.11)
Abbas can get give away the dream of the arab palestinian right of return and nor should he . It will be one state for two peple the jews will control security and arab and jew will have nuclear shelters and escape plans for all. It will be a thoroughly humanitarian state with humane religious traditions fully accepted and with deterrance only as a very last resort.
38. Quid pro quo
K.Venugopal ,   Mumbai   (09.19.11)
I wonder why Abbas is seeking recognition of Palestine when he himself does not want to recognize Israel.
39. #29 cool
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (09.19.11)
The Arabs don't want Jews, in the last century they ethnically cleansed all Jews from all the Arab states. The Europeans don't want Jews, enough said. Now that FSM let's you take over Israel, what do you propose to do with the Jews?
40. Reminder: Israel only exists for Abbas when he can demand mo
Debbie ,   ISRAEL   (09.19.11)
moeney from Israel? so no money since we dont exist
41. #29-Edward : You have a gentile concept of g-d
Yael Schlichting ,   Raubling - Germany   (09.19.11)
You may think about a spaghetti monster or an old man, sitting in the sky, watching us, registering our steps and sometimes rant and curse at us and rarely blesses us, but this is not our concept of g-d. If you choose this primitive level, just join the "Stateless'" __________________ Stateless is my expression for those Arabs who prefer to call themselves "Palestinians" but they aren't more Palestinians than any Jew, living in Israel. Hence they are nothing more than stateless Arabs, because Israel gave a new home to the displaced Jews, which were ousted by a brutal Muslim mob in the Arab and non-Arab Muslim countries, while the Arabs didn't lift a finger for their brothers who left their homes during the Arab hostilities, crimes and wars against Jews.
42. All is well. Ex-beauty queen Ashrawi is back on the scene.
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (09.19.11)
43. Israel was created for this reason
Issac Nelson ,   Hartford USA   (09.19.11)
To be the Jewish State. Islam = More than 50 Nations Jews = 1 Nation
44. To #6, Chris B.
Gabe ,   Canada   (09.19.11)
Please keep in mind that Jews were living in the Roman province of Palestine, therefore Jews are Palestinians for historical records. Arab settlers have no right to call themselves Palestinian. Also note that Arabs have attacked Israel numerous times and lost each and every time. Losers have no right to dictate peace conditions or anything else for this matter. Shalom.
45. #6- It wasn't unilateral
mike ,   Australia   (09.19.11)
Israel came into existence through winning a war, not through the UN. In fact it was amazing since it was a war of defense against most of the Arab world, surround her an all sides. The "palestinians" can't force Israel to give up its gd given and legally owned land. Nor can the UN. This whole UN thing means nothing except the death of the PA. The average person, like you and your pali friends, think that a majority vote means that Israel is going to give over Judea, Samaria and J'lem? wrong buddy! it means nothing on the ground. When the palis realize this in a few months down the road, after having lost all aid from Israel and the US and other donors as a result, they will overthrow and likely kill PA members. History, even recent history, does not lie in this regard. In such a case, it is likely Hamas will appear as victor and then the UN declaration will mean even less and the thought of the ACTUAL creation of a state goes from unrealistic to impossible. After this the world will downgrade their care for them to the likes of the Kurds, Basque and Uyghur. You know those stateless nations that are ACTUALLY a defined an distinct people?
46. The last hurrah for fictional Palestine.
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.19.11)
The P.A.'s 1988 statehood fiasco is well known. However, it has made other statehood declarations which are less well known. Palestine is fictional and will remain so forever. The P.A. could declare statehood every week for all it matters. We are about to witness the final fiasco for fictional Palestine. It will be a far bigger fiasco than 1988. After all, in 1988, there were not 700,000 Jews living in Judea and Samaria. In 1988, the P.A.'s statehood bid was not opposed by the far more powerful Hamas terrorist group... When the smoke clears, fictional Palestine is finished. It will never be taken seriously again. This is it's last hurrah.
47. Dirty,Rotten,Scoundrel
Samuel ,   Israel   (09.19.11)
Just as Abbas won't recognize Israel as a Jewish State,so do we do not recognize the PA ,Saudi Arabia,Egypt,Syria,Lebanon & the remaining Muslim/Arab countries as Muslim/Arab states. The lousy Abbas thinks he can obtain the status of a state firstly because he wants to prove to Hamas that he is the sole leader.I wonder why nobody has the guts to get into his personal account to prove how much of the millions of dollars he has squandered out of all the donating countries.
48. Response to#31
John R ,   NYC USA   (09.19.11)
Your logic makes no sense. Israel accepted UNGAR 181 in 1947 which included the requirement that the state give the same political and religious rights to all its citizens. The Israeli Declaration of Independence reaffirms those rights. Israel requires none of the 162 countries which recognize it to only recognize it as a Jewish state. That requirement never came up in almost 20 years of negotiations. When you demand the Palestinians give that recognition you eliminate the their ability to negotiate the concept of Right of Return.I personally think right of return should be bought but Israel is guilty of consistently trying to create a preordained solution before negotiations even take place. It is the reason why no progress has taken place in 20 years of peace negotiations.
49. So let me summarise?
Tim ,   Brighton   (09.19.11)
1. Abbas doesnt want any Jews in Palestine 2. He doesnt want a Jewish State either (Is that Abbas speak for no Jews in Israel?) Has he now taken up being a comedian in his spare time? Hes certainly giving the top Comedy Duo Haniyeh and Mashaal a run for their money
50. Abbas Should declare Palestine with 1947 border
palestine Hawk ,   alqods   (09.19.11)
Abbas recognize the state of israel while israel refuse to do the same for palestine So either a palestine state or open war untill liberation Gaza won its freedom by armed struggle west bank and Galile should do the same
51. to # 48
DAVID ,   HERZLIA,ISRAEL   (09.19.11)
RIGHT OF RETURN?, WILL NEVER HAPPEN, NO GOVERNMENT IN ISRAEL: LEFT ,CENTER , OR RIGHT WILL AGREE TO THIS. PALESTINIANS WILL BE ABLE TO GO TO PALESTINE, NOT TO ISRAEL.. AND IF ISRAELI PALESTINIANS WANT, THEY CAN ALSO MOVE TO PALESTINE ( THEY WILL NEVER GO... TOO GOOD IN ISRAEL COMPARED TO ANY ARAB COUNTRY... FOR EXAMPLE LOOK AT SYRIA !!!)
52. Expell Abbas to Tunisia
Shep ,   Memphis   (09.19.11)
Oslo brought Arafat to the West Bank. Oslo is gone if Abbas goes to the UN, so I say send him packing to Tunisia. The Pals are a fragmented people led by idiots - both Fatah and Hamas, who are more interested in staying in power, than creating a democratic state. Anyway, can't every one see that the Islamic extremism that is sweeping the Mideast will be the same in a Pals state? Send them to Jordan now!!!
53. Despite all their pushing the EU will not vote against Pals
Rebecca ,   Modiin   (09.19.11)
Despite all the work they are putting into getting Peace talks back on, etc, Abbas is going to snub them, and they are going to crawl away and not vote against them.
54. Abbas Ploy - to use UN resolution 377 against Israel
Isaac Storm   (09.19.11)
This is a ploy by Abbas - he is seeking to force Israel to either agree to his terms or force the terms upon Israel under UN resolution 377, uniting for peace. Abbas is seeking to bring the resolution to the UNSC. If the US vetoes the resolutions without obtaining at least 7 votes in the UNSC that vote no, abstain, or absent themself, then Abbas will claim lack of unanimity under UN resolution 377, uniting for peace. He will then take the resolution to the UNGA where he will need a two-thirds majority. (125 votes and Abbas claims to have that number.) The resolution is not binding; however, it does have teeth. What Abbas is hoping for is that the many nations will boycott Israel, treat Israel as an apartheid state, and he will have standing to take the IDF and/or Israeli citizens and/or political leaders to international court. We all must lobby our leaders to meet and pressure at least 7 nations that sit on the UN security council to vote no, abstain, or absent themself from the vote. Abbas is contravening the Oslo Accords which says that he may not act unilaterally and this is a unilateral act.
55. External factors leave 1 option: BIG ISRAEL
