Stephen in New York   (09.19.11)
Erdogan doesn’t leave much room to back down. Conflict seems inevitable. The aggressor is the one who makes conflict inevitable.
32. Israel should offer Cyprus...
Vlad   (09.19.11)
Free Israeli Navy escorts for their gas operations, provided that they vote against the PA at the UN.
33. Throw Turkey out of NATO
Sidney ,   USA   (09.19.11)
Otherwise the U.S. should quit and let Europe wallow in its own mess.
34. Threats
Smith ,   Waco, USA   (09.19.11)
Turkey stoped short of threatening Noble Energy due to it's US home base. Under US law the United States military is obligated to protect any and all US citizens under threat of a foreign entity.
35. ...AND TO OUR BELOVED ALLIE AND FRIEND CYPRUS, WE...
JEWISH DOCTOR ,   NYC, USA   (09.19.11)
WELCOME YOU Nicosia, TO THE "HEY ERDOGEN, read our lips!" CLUB... and BTW: Nicosia, Is there ANYTHING we can do to help you perhaps?...We have some left over drones from a previous allie (before he became Mr. Islamastand Backstabber) and some hardly used, never driven on Saturday, neato submarines...
36. War games
Arnold ,   Canada   (09.19.11)
Backgammon, checkers, and chess. The triad of ancient war board games. The two newer ones from the 20th century are Risk and Diplomacy. I played Diplomacy in my late teen years. What I am watching now played out in real time is making me extremely nervous. What does Erdogan want and what is he willing to do to get it ?
37. #26right is right.

Greek Cypriots from the north side of the property filed a lawsuit related to the ECHR and won.occupied or not.Greek Cypriots in the north have the right to.Even if they occupy, know their rights.Turk Cypriots have the right to the south.21% of land belonging to the Turks in the south.no solved the issue of territorial negotiations.add issue to this problem.the military had been an explosion on top. landowner a Turk and his case in the ECHR,most likely will win.there are wrong on both sides.the majority of Greek Cypriots accept it.Do not be party to false.for both eligible.Turk Cypriots do not have the benefit of any agreement related to it.reaction is not abnormal.

zionist forever   (09.19.11)
I suppose you also think Israel should share its gas finds with Lebanon because they are also trying to lay claim to it. Whatever has been found in Cypriot waters belongs to the independent state of Cyprus not Empror Erdogan and his islamic radical stooges.
39. TURKISH ISOLATION NEARLY COMPLETE
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (09.19.11)
Yesterday we learnt how the Turkish government has antagonized the US administration over Israel's US-backed application to NATO’s Mediterranean Dialogue initiative. Today we see how the Turkish government is antagonizing the EU over Cyprus's sovereignty. Last week it antagonized Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood. NATO has been well antagonized for years many times. The UN has been antagonized by Erdogan throwing its Palmer Report back in its face. Not forgetting,of course, that the Turkish government set out to antagonize Israel and succeeded. And Erdogan and Davutoglu claim that ISRAEL is isolated!!!! HA HA HA HA HA.......HA!! THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
40. The Truth
paul   (09.19.11)
Finally the truth comes out. Turkey could care less about the blockade in Gaza. It does care very much so about the oil that has been found off the coast of Cypress in Israeli waters.OIL OIL OIL That is what the turks are after. Even moreso they want to be able to block Israel from having a natural energy resource. Sorry Turkey, you are going to lose this fight because the rest of the world does not at all think Cypress belongs to Turkey. So sorry. It must be allahs will
41. Islamists boarded Turkey, on course to sink her.
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (09.19.11)
42. The Turkish stance is contradictory over Cyprus
Helen ,   Labelde   (09.20.11)
Turkey's position on the gas discoveries is ridiculous. It claims there are two states on the island of Cyprus but denies the right of the Republic of Cyprus to search for reserves in its own zone. Has Turkey allowed the Greek Cypriots a share of the natural wealth in northern Cyprus all these years? Of course not. Turkey imposes partition on the island and at the same time wants a share of the wealth of southern Cyprus. What a stupid, cynical and confused policy!

excellent target practice for IAF and HAF.

45. NOW, I SEE WHY THIS GOOF ACTS
Iranian Jew ,   La   (09.20.11)
this weird. It's the gas that he is worried about and not the Muslims or Gazans. When will Muslims finally wake up? When will they realise that they must compromise? Turkey is finished. Now that an American oil company is involved then US NAVY will be protecting. What an idiot! Could have gone through this with diplomacy and friendship. WHERE IS THIS ANOTN NOW? Do you still think your mad man is diplomatic?
46. ahmadiboy's sidekick....
les ,   canada   (09.20.11)
is there anyone that nerd haven't threatened yet? the guy have to stop smoking the stuff, or he'll burn down his kitchen....imagine the two of them with nukes...
47. #24 Deb - He has already purged the military.
(09.20.11)
Erdogan has been at it for sometime. Getting rid of anyone who might have a dissenting view in the military. Turkey will end up a dictatorship - or something definitely not very democratic by our standards.
48. Israel-Cyprus-Greece-Armenia Alliance! Maybe PKK too.

49. The Day After
Ron ,   oc, us   (09.20.11)
Turkey did his dance on Arab TV and it played very well. He does his threatening bit to Israel and it did not go over too well, now it is the EU's turn and I don't think they will be too happy with Erdogan. If he flexes his limited muscles in the Mediterranian he not only will buck up against the EU and Israel but the US 6th fleet and all the military and economic consequences that go with it. Erdogan can go play with his friends the Iranian's, hezbollah and hamas. Syria is problematic.
50. TURKISH PIRATES! SOLIDARITY BETWEEN GREECE-ISRAEL-CYPRUS!!!
YORGOS ,   ATHENS GREECE   (09.20.11)

52. #42 There are facts that policy.
(09.20.11)
aware of the existence of natural gas between Cyprus and Hatay.not touching because Greek Cypriots have the right owner.this hundreds of the ECHR case means.Turkey recognizes their rights and must recognize.Greek Cypriots not exempt from this.rights to apply for both of them.both sides must respect. Please note that the referendum was conducted in 2004.The content of this referendum:Certain regions in the north to will leave the Cypriots.(water-rich so strategic)Turk army withdraw from the island.will going back to settlers from Turkey. and the result:75% of Greek Cypriots voted no.65% of Turk Cypriots voted yes. After 3 days southern Cyprus to the EU were considered one-sided.(reason:if greece cyprus is not accepted ,other countries threatened to veto.)EU internal rules:can not be a member of conflict the zones. The EU itself ignored, violated. The EU promised to lift the isolation of Turkish Cypriots and it is still not done because EU member Cyprus continues to veto it.The Turks themselves feel deceived.any attempt to do so.The EU is also aware of this.everyone afraid from Turks, who expected to enter into a frenzy.Stefan Füle want to stop drilling from Greeks .Turkey blames none because it is right.reasonable and justified.
53. Hypocrisy at its best
Metin ,   Germany   (09.20.11)
The Greek Cypriots always claim that the north is part of them, too and reject the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). But when it comes to gas, it is all "theirs"; then all of a sudden the Greek Cypriots make a distonction betwerrn "North" and "South". Now if the South would have recognised the independence of the North, Turkey could not (and would not) have said anything about the South's energy reserves. But the South wants to keep the North and NOT share the gas at the same time...

Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (09.20.11)
The problem of the Muslims it that they believe that once they walk over some land, it's theirs. The gas field was discovered by Israel and it was their decision to explore it together with Cyprus and not with Turkey or any other country. Is this so difficult to understand?

Congratulations for totally missing my point.
56. TO #5
Mary ,   GREEK CYPRUS   (09.20.11)
We all remember the man who went to psihiatrist and stated: I am Napoleon. Thats what turkey is doing in the region. She acts the role of policeman threatening everybody that she doesnt allow acts that don't like!!!! For a strange reason nobody answer him. Not EE not USA. is that normal? How many times I said inside me that God has given us the worst enemies in the world
57. Turkey is the spoilt one here.
Mary ,   GREEK CYPRUS   (09.20.11)
The sultan with his bottomless audacity is going out of limits. Scientists should see his case to invent new cells which make brain ruined.
58. To # 23
Mary ,   Greek Cyprus   (09.20.11)
Naturals resourses have been offered to turkish cypriots. Not turkish gypsies who are brought all over the island from Er-dog-gan to show more population. Negotiations have been going for 40 years because Erto is nearly to ask us to leave our country. God now is panishing you. End of time to order everybody.
59. #55 Metin, Germany
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (09.20.11)
Not quite. The Turks have transformed the north of Cyprus into Little Anatolia. OK. But if the Turks living there want to participate in the natural resources of the Mediterranean, they have to start working themselves - either with or without their brethren in Turkey.
60. #56;Mary, THANKS, LET ME ASK...
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (09.20.11)
I feel for you, and ask the same question. Why is it the world seems to remain silent whenever a Muslim country starts to push others around. Even when they're clearly in the wrong (i.e. the flotilla incident with Israel). We've all seen what can happen, Hitler comes to mind. This is not a new revelation certainly, Edmund Burke in the late 1700's once said: "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." Sadly, this idea is as relevant today...maybe more so...then ever. Things that seem so obvious get turned upside down. Until the world decides to stand up to the bully countries of the region it will get worse. When you allow Turkey, Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas make statements of hatred and threats, when Egyptians trying to lynch people in a foreign embassy, and other member nations offer no criticism, the silence only emboldens them. The bully thinks it's fear, and believes he can push the envelope further. Mary, how are the people around you, the local guy on the street, are they thinking about this? Is it a big story? Or just a page 8 story. What do your people think, based on your experience. I'm curious to hear more from you, and your people.
