Barack Obama has increased aid to Israel at a time millions of Americans lost their homes and millions of Americans lost their jobs. He has protected Israel at the U.N. every single time, and intelligence and military cooperation between the two countries is at its highest level ever. He called for negotiations based on the 1967 borders with land swaps which has not only been the official American position for the past forty years but a position endorsed by the previous four Israeli Prime Ministers except the current one who came to this country last May and proceeded to lecture the country responsible for giving it more aid than any other country in the world. (including aid America gives to the top ten poorest countries combined.) Israeli's are furious our President supposedly let their friends, the dictators in Tunesia and Egypt be overthrown, but how could America prop up oppressive dictators and tyrants who deprived their citizens of freedom and gave them a life of abject poverty while the leaders lived an opulent lifestyle? How dare Israeli's criticize our government for supporting people who were living under a dictatorship and wanted freedom? You like to brag that you are the only democracy in the Middle East but yet you lambast Obama for not allowing the tyrant of Egypt to contnue denying his people freedom. The problem is that Israel is a country today that has right wing leaders who do not want a resolution of the Israeli Palestinian conflict and who cater to the settlers who continue to illegally expropriate more and more Palestinian land. Obama wants a fair and just solution to the conflict and wants a State of Palestine living next to a secure and safe State of Israel. Israels leaders do not want this. They want the Palestinians to disappear and for daring to try to work for a day when there are two States living side by side in peace the right wing here and in America are hell bent on destroying Obama. In the end they are only hurting Israel, and that is very sad. Those of you who fantasize that an Obama defeat in 2012 will end your problems with Turkey, Egypt, Iran, and the rest of the world are in for a big surprise. You will soon be left with the evangelicals in America as your only supporters. Americans are tired of fighting wars in Iraq and Afganistan and are tired of Israel demanding more than any other country has ever demanded. You are a nation of 7 million people out of a world population of 5 billion people but yet you expect the President of the U.S. and the people of the U.S. to genuflect before you. Israel and the PA were just beginning to talk security and economics, and Israel was gradually removing its checkpoints, when Obama came in and demanded direct talks. He then demanded a settlement freeze, something never previously demanded, without understanding there was a reason why previous US governments never pushed the issue: The Palestinians immediately had to adopt a hardline stance on settlements to appease their own public. Their stance was so hardline, they rejected the freeze as inadequate and didn't begin to talk until it was nearly finished, and then Obama demanded another, something Netanyahu could not have done as it would break apart his fragile coalition government. So the talks began deadlocked, and the Palestinians thus began a campaign to isolate Israel. Obama could easily have stopped the UN bid when it was first announced by strong language and threats. Instead, he hesitated, forcing Abbas to proceed for fear of losing credebility with his own public. When he finally came out against it, it was too late for Abbas to back down. Throughout his term, Obama became notable for trying to force Israel to cave to almost all Palestinian demands, including the 1967 borders and division of Jerusalem. He humiliated Netanyahu by refusing to meet with him in public and walked out on a meeting with him while embracing despots, and imposed a de-facto arms embargo on Israel by refusing to approve most Israeli arms purchase requests. He'd be even worse if it were his second term, and he had no need to cater to the pro-Israel public. He'd fully support the UN bid. Bet on that.
