My memory is a little different than former President Clinton. As soon as Netanyahu was elected he gave the Bar Ilan speech where he called for "direct talks" with Abbas and Fatah. Netanyahu followed that up with a 10 month freeze (concrete facts on the ground proof of his sincerity). Hilary Clinton called it "historic" and "unprecedented". It was a great gesture for peace. Abbas responded by asking for MORE preconditions, wasting 9 months of the freeze. Finally Abbas agreed to "indirect talks" with preconditions (the freeze be extended). Just before both parties were to sit down, Hamas did 4 vile things: 1) Hamas said they would not honor any agreement Fatah made with Israel. 2) Hamas stated the Palestinians were NOT bound by any agreement made by the "indirect talks" 3) Hamas committed 2 terrorist attacks (drive-by shootings) killing for innocent civilians, one was a pregnant mother of 6 children. 4) Hamas held a "victory parade" the next day. Calling the attacks "heroic acts of resistance". So how President Clinton can come to the conclusion it's Netanyahu fault, is bizarre to say the least. Now remember Clinton was famous for always raising the False "Moral Equivalency" argument. Comparing terrorist attacks vs settlement building makes little sense. One is violent and a war crime, the other is simply debatable but non-violent. About the only area we agree is on, his Rabin and Sharon remarks. Plus Arafat's stupid refusal of a great deal for his people.
