Why not symbolically transfer sins to a bicycle wheel and then thus to the ground under it by riding a bike, and THEN give tzedakah? At least then nobody has sins dumped onto them, let alone a chicken, and no chickens get abused, either.

There are probably numerous cultural and religious rituals that involve some sin or other, even though they are performed with the best of intentions. Yes, there is some sinning involved in chicken-swinging aka kapparot, even though the idea is to symbolically get rid of sin! It harms the chicken, thus being cruel to an animal. Its disgusting when Treif practices are passed as Orthodox and Judaism by people who are doing nothing but abusing the principles taught. The problem is a lack of leadership to straighten all of these issues out once and for all.
