1. Disagree - if the army told the singer to strip before singi
rebecca ,   Modiin   (10.05.11)
would the courts still feel "it's an IDF order" and not intervene?
2. Interets
(10.05.11)
The court took the cowards way out because they knew they would have to rule in favor of the religious soldier. The issue is not an internal army matter, but a matter of employee - employer relations. I am certain if the commander had forced female cadets to view "blue movies" and dismissed them from the course it wou

hands off a matter that follows their philosophy. The Army is for the time being anti religious. "This is Perfect!" says the court. We do not interfere.

You still don't realize you are living in the 21th century. Don't be ridiculous !!!

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.05.11)
But the Army did NOT tell the singer to strip, so your suggestion is completely inapposite. Moreover, it's actually quite absurd.
7. THIS IS AN ORTHODOX IDIOCY!
stude ham   (10.05.11)
there is absolutuely nothing in Torah which prohibits anyone from hearing women sing.
8. Funny thing is
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (10.05.11)
That Beinisch and company have ASSUMED operational control of units and overruled the Commander in Chief when they feel like it. No this is a court issue, religious discrimination is certainly a court matter. I enjoy hearing my wife sing, she has a wonderful voice, but it was not a required to listen to any female singers when I went through officers school, when did that change?

It they believed in God they would be convinced that they are God.

It depends how an atractive she was with her uniform off - Looking at her (singing) I believe there wouldn't be any protests or petitions assuming that they're not perverts,...

You still don't realise you are not living in Israel. Living in Belgium, you have no right to get involved in this matter. Come to live in Israel, serve in the army and then by all means express your opinion.
13. To # 12
FO ,   Belgium   (10.05.11)
I lived and served in Israel. The fact I left doesn't plead in favour of the State ! So I need the approval of nobody to express my opinions !!!
14. I disagree too.
noa ,   israel   (10.06.11)
This is still a Jewish country, and the army is subject to its' laws also. While I think it is a stupid rule that men cannot watch women sing, as it promotes an unhealthy and exaggerated view of sexuality and its' power, it is still a tenant of certain types of Judaism, and we have to respect that.
15. Do Unto Others!
Truthfully ,   Netanya   (10.06.11)
Seems the Jews that walked out have forgotten the basic idea of Judaism. Shame on them. How would they like it if they were the ones singing? Very unJewish behavior!

Although the IDF is not an 'employer' in the accepted legal sense nor is any military organization, the issue is not about singing by a female or for that matter crossing community ethics standards by eg stripping. It is a matter of adhering to an agreement to facilitate IDF service by Haredi by conforming within reason to Haredi's religious norms to the extent possible. The Court failed to address this compact, viewing this as a command issue. Unfortunate but not cowardly unless the compact was made public re a matter of civil law.
17. If this happened overseas,,,
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (10.06.11)
... and you replaced the word "woman" with "Jew" the same people defending this cadet woud be calling the non-Jews antisemites. If he wants to serve in an army where he doesnt want to deal with women, I suggest he move to Iran and enlist there.
18. I'm confused
Bad assed Jew. ,   United States   (10.06.11)
Is not the female voice as lovely a gift as a mans voice? If it's viewing the female while she sings that's the problem, turn your head or close your eyes. I never heard of such a thing in my life. As a professional singer, I'm glad I was born in America, I can sing or not when and where I choose.
19. No prohibition in Jewish Law to hear a woman sing.
Spencer ,   Israel   (10.06.11)
If female singers took part in the funeral of the late Hanan Porat where 10000 people attended who were mostly observant Jews and both Chielf Rabbis of Israel were present and there were NO OBJECTIONS, it just proves how ridiculous the petition of Yoel Glickman was. He wasted the court's time and at the same time wasted money of the stupid petition. He's not worthy to be an officer in the IDF. Just as an aside, when the Jews were led out of Egypt and crossed the Red Sea thevoices of the WOMEN of Israel sand praises to the Lord.....yes, and the men were there and heard the song and they too rejoiced. It all sounds like a load of BS to me.
20. It is wrong to ruin a man's career over this.
Josh   (10.06.11)
There should be some sort of punishment but by no means is listening to singing by itself a deal breaker. Dismissing him from officers school seems a bit overboard for a first offense. Seems to me they are throwing the baby out with the bath water.
21. The blatant stupidity of some religious people
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (10.06.11)
This officer cadet should learn from the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Shlomo Amar, who was confronted with the same situation. What did the honorable rabbi do? Did he stand up and leave? Did he complain? Did he file a court claim? No. He ignored it. The singer ended, and the ceremony went on with the rabbi present. This officer cadet showed bad judgement - first by walking out, and then by not accepting the IDF discipline and turning to the courts. This guy is NOT officer material, and the IDF kicked him out accordingly. Instead of believing the midot of whichever nudnick taught him to walk out, he should have used the example of Rav Amar, kept his cool and occupied his mind with other thoughts. The singer would have ended, and he would have gone back to the officers training course. The IDF made the right decision, and the court is correct in staying out of the IDF's hair in this situation.

The soldier in the field has to listen to more than a woman sing, if our soldiers can't handle women singing whatever the reason, then they should not be in the army!
23. Glickman being forced to listen to a female singing
Alistair ,   Modi'in Israel   (10.09.11)
What is going to enforced next in the IDF - Bacon and eggs for breakfast. Maybe integrated synagogue services - This is Israel and the guy has the right to his religous beliefs without being penalised for them
