6. Let this be a lesson to the world's Israel-bashers
Gobbo   (10.05.11)
It's not boasting, it's just fact: Jews have won Nobel Prizes well out of proportion to their numbers. All the anti-Jewish, anti-Israel propaganda in the world will never change the fact that Jews contribute a lot of good things to humanity. The world is a better place because of Daniel Shechtman, but also because there exists a small country called Israel where Jews like him can live up to their full potential and make their great contributions. My thanks to the Nobel Committee for sending a clear message to all the envious, malicious types around the world who insist on characterizing Israel as a place of pure evil. Imagine how much more the Israelis could contribute if they didn't have to devote so many resources to military and security concerns. Arab and Muslim hatred results in a big loss to the world by making sure Jews spend more mental and physical energy on ensuring their survival than on using their natural gifts to benefit mankind. But at least they still manage to do so, despite all the obstacles placed in their path by their envious enemies.
7. Group he was "asked to leave" was US Bureau of Standards
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (10.06.11)
Most don't know that the US National Bureau of Standards (now called National Institute of Science and Technology) conducts original research. But his findings were so controversial, he returned to Technion. As a (modest) supporter of Technion, I should note that most of his facilities were not funded by Israel, but by American Technion Society funders. Given the obvious potential and importance of such science and technology efforts, it's time the Israeli government and the country's high-tech rich do more.
