61. The next generation
Michelle Malka   (10.07.11)
Most of my of my religious friends grew up with parents just like Uri
62. Freedom and being a free man as the author claims to be
Rivkah   (10.07.11)
is the opposite of what he plans to do. To be HaShem's slave is to be free. To be HaShem's enemy, disobeying the commandments is to be a slave to HaSatan. One must choose which one to be a slave of: HaShem or HaSatan. I prefer HaShem. I will fast on Yom Kippur and ask forgiveness for my sins as is required of those who are slaves to HaShem.
63. Keep your point of view to your self.
Phoenix ,   Israel   (10.07.11)
Nobody in Israel it's interested to know what is your point of view. The fact that you are telling it to everybody through out this Leftist Joke of a Newsnetwork just show how much intolerant and annoying you and all the leftists are. Shut up Please!
64. Uri Misgav
Daniel ,   Maale Adumim   (10.07.11)
"At this stage, many of you will dismiss me with being “simplistic” Wrong. We dismiss you because we couldn't care less about what you do and think! Sorry to burst your bubble, but you really aren't important or interesting enough to care about. Gmar Chatima Tova!
65. Anyone truly annoyed at the bovine attributes of religion
tom ,   tel aviv   (10.07.11)
will do much better visiting Pat Condell's blog. There are many segments dealing most eloquently with this subject. This article is just ment as a pretext for a fight on the eve of Yom Kippur, -pointless... I do share his conviction though.
66. AN ATHEIST....
al mann ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.07.11)
You are an atheist--thank god.
67. If you don't believe in anything
Ber ,   Yahud   (10.07.11)
Then way do you object to anything? This is nothing more than an outburst the savage complexes of the primitive brain. A childish tantrum of self expression based on Primitive irrational desire of self preservation, namely atheism as an alternative option as identity to the damaged goods of the Gentiles and the Jews. The thing that kills me the most about ppl like this is that if you don't believe in Judiasm then everything the enemies of Israel say about Jews not belonging in Palestine is true.
68. God - Jesus
Moragh   (10.07.11)
You can choose what you want to believe or you may disbelieve, but one little warning to all disbelievers, when your time is up, you will all be sorrowful souls. I know the Lord Jesus exists, and I know that from a very unexpected personal experience. And I might add, I am not an over-religious freak! I have two legs very securely planted on this God-given soil.
69. Who cares, man?
Eli ,   Raanana   (10.07.11)
70. religion
colin   (10.07.11)
There is no such a thing as religion I do not believe in ghosts(some people call it god) I am an atheist by the english press I wonder if the journalists know what is a athiest or a non believer ??It was a very clever man that wrote a story book (bible, koran, torah) and became a very rich person
71. I assume that misgav
Danny   (10.07.11)
Available on yom kippur
72. hypocrite
Big Moe ,   Israel   (10.07.11)
you like the part of the Torah about the Land of Israel belonging to the Jews ad insist upon your right to return to the Land after 2000 years and demanded the British quit the Mandate and let you build a state but the rest of the Torah that places any obligations on you are unfair burdens that no one has the right to make you adhere to. Explain to the Arab residents of Israel and the PA what your claim to Israel is, if the entire Torah is not holy? How did we come back to this Land after 2000 years. Ben Gurion waived the Torah at the UN and everyone else. Do not try to argue that Jews lived here historically because we came into the Land with Joshua and prosecuted wars against the indiginous peoples of the Land (the 7 cannanite nations) eradicated them and then created our own facts on the ground. Based upon the Torah the Land belongs to the Jewish people, based upon your secular worldview you are a White European colonial settler who carried out war crimes against the indiginous Palestinian people. You cannot have it both ways secular boy. If not the Torah what is your claim to this Land? Don't fast - who cares. Do not complain when the Charedim dont honor your secular memorial days.
73. Does it mean
Jarda ,   Czech Republic   (10.07.11)
no "chosen people", no "promised land"?
74. the bread of life well said.
(10.07.11)
75. Did anyone ask?
Ram ,   London   (10.07.11)
What a silly article this is! In a democracy no one imposes on anyone to follow a religion. Is Ynet attempting to be controvertial with this shallow piece? Is the author that important? Does anyone care what he thinks? Is he unique? Religion is about belief or credo. You either believe in somethig and follow its tenets or you don't. Then you have traditions and inherited customs which distingwish certain people from others. The whole thing gives people an identity, a sense of belonging and the comfort in the trust that a superior being is taking care of them. They obviously find plenty of comfort in the whole thing otherwise they would not follow in their forefathers paths. The author claims to be jewish without having that distingwishing identity. Of course he is free to act in this manner, but he comes across as weird as a lion that eats grass. The author is in bad need of therapy! Not for being non-observant but for the need to help him sort out his identity. Gmar Chatima Tova to all.
76. Poor Uri
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (10.07.11)
He should change his name to Uri Misfit. A product of total misunderstanding and arrogance.
77. To #4 Haim
Joshua ,   USA   (10.07.11)
Amen! Where is the party? Can I join? I will pitch in for the food and drinks:)
78. And what about your son?
VK ,   Jerusalem   (10.07.11)
So you did to your son what you didn't want others to do to you. You imposed your world view on him as opposed to a tradition, which goes on for over 4000 years - let's see how he'll confront you about it a few years down the road! gmar chatima tova
79. Then how are we any different?
An Israelite   (10.07.11)
What is the purpose of being Jewish? What is the faith of Israel? I'm not talking about religious, man-made torah-talmud observence, but G-d spoken revelation of the whole tanach, the faith of Abraham, Isaac and Yacov. The hagim are divine appointments, a time to meet with G-d, our Husband. Its not a burden, but A DELIGHT! Those who chose not to observe were not concidered as part of Am Israel.
80. What is being Jewish?
Israelite   (10.07.11)
The term "Jew" comes from the name "Judah", the 4th son of Leah and Yacov. The name means: "I will praise the Lord!" To be Jewish is to be a nation of peoiple WHO WORSHIP the G-D of Israel. Anything other than that is goy.
81. Left wing
David ,   Haifa Israel   (10.07.11)
torah hating Jews.... GET OUT!!!!
82. Free man, ha, you are the biggest slave of all.
Daniel ,   Jerusalem   (10.07.11)
You are a slave to yourself and mankind. I'd rather be a slave to God and truly free. How many years did you invest in trying to decipher if the Torah is real? Man vs God, good luck with that.
83. You idiot.
Ezra ,   San Diego   (10.07.11)
The origins of Jewishness is having a covenant with HaShem. You cannot separate being Jewish from having HaShem as the higher power. There is no Jewish without HaShem. You're trying to reinvent yourself. Forget it. You're too late.
84. Atheist braggard
Deborah Lurya ,   United States   (10.07.11)
So what- ask us if we care
85. An Atheist is out of the Israelite camp
David N. ,   Haifa, Israel   (10.07.11)
"Atheist Jew" is an oxymoronic phrase. yes, various modern creeds and morays do allow you to make the claim, but not the reality of what makes a Son of Israel a Son of Israel. G-d is the center, the heart, raison d'etre of the entire experience of Israel from Adam to Avraham until today. This opinion article is incredibly irrelevent. Sad that the author is an unfree man with a slave's mentality.
86. Born Free
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (10.07.11)
We are all free to behave within the accepted norms as see fit. No one is forcing you to believe in anything it’s a matter of personal choice. No one really cares what you do as it is an entirely personal thing. Just as you have free will those who believe also have free will and practice religion as they see fit. However, as we are a Jewish country it is incumbent upon us in public to honor Jewish tradition
87. So values are just relative?
Ben Yisrael ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (10.07.11)
Why not shoot your noisy neighbor because he infuriates you or steal aftershave from your neighborhood Superpharm because it is overpriced? Why not?????
88. Well done !
John de Frece ,   Ramat Gan   (10.07.11)
You are not alone Just see the paroxyms of hatred violence and ignorance in so many of th talk backs here . Let them carry on Darwin was right Evoluton is right Time for human beings to grow up and leave behind the infantility of religion
89. a new low, YNET
jerusalem ,   Jerusalem   (10.07.11)
like someone above mentioned - this immature attention-starved bit was really not worthy of being headlined by you guys. Believe what you want to believe... but stop crying and stamping your feet about it. A good year to you Uri, you sound like you're in a lot of pain about something.
90. To #4 Haim
Abraham Nachmias ,   Petach Tikva IL   (10.07.11)
Good morning Haim, you claim "enough of religious mumbo jumbo" and you frien Uri claims that he believes in progress and science. So, can any of you two explain me why after 3.000 years, the moral failures expressed in the Torah are still the same in your newly built newly born scientific and progressive man? Wouldn't you consider the chance that the basic human being just changes when he works over his faults or are you so vain?
