I agree that this opens Israel to future kidnapping dangers, but what's done is done. All we can do now is tighten security and try to learn from previous kidnappings. Israel let Gilad down by not going in after him. I'm sure the entire IDF would have volunteered to join in that mission. Instead, more Israelis will die at the hands of these murderers. And when the first terrorist attack happens, will the Shalit family comfort the bereaved? A soldier will be saved and civilians will be murdered. The PM should cancel this fiasco and send in the IDF and go retrieve Gilad. If Hamas puts up a fight, destroy them (and Gaza, if needed). Time to say that evil will never be rewarded. Life sentences and multiple life sentences in jail for the murder of innocent people carry no meaning if the government is going to turn around and release them to free a soldier or civilian held hostage by other terrorists. The only way to prevent this in the future is to institute the death penalty for terrorists. I say this as someone firmly opposed to the death penalty.
